Drop in for an hour or two or bring a picnic and stay the whole day. Free parking. 4 Pond Dipping - Aylesbeare Common 10am - 12 noon Join the Rangers for a tractor ride and pond dipping session on the RSPB Aylesbeare heathland reserve. Booking only: RSPB Venn Ottery Reserve Open Day 2pm pm Join the warden on a guided walk and find out how rare southern damselflies are returning to this special reserve. Booking only: RSPB Woodbury Common, Past, Present and Future 6:30pm - 8:30pm Join Dr. Sam Bridgewater, Conservation Manager of Woodbury Common, and discover how the heaths were formed, how they are managed by the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust, and the conservation challenges that lie ahead. Nightjars at Mutter s Moor Heath Week 9.30pm pm Join the Conservation Manager of Mutter s Moor on a search for the illusive nightjar, one of our heathland s most enigmatic summer visitors. Mutter s Moor is managed for conservation and public access by the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust. Bring a torch. Booking only: Clinton Devon Estates

5 Reptile Ramble - Trinity Hill Local Nature Reserve 9am - 11am Get up early to search for elusive reptiles on this heathland reserve with the District Council Ranger Service. Help check the reptile havens to see who is at home. Cost: 2 under 16, 3 Adults Please book on Heath Week Bystock Nature Reserve Discovery Day Guided walks and children's activities 11am - 4pm Join us to celebrate the wealth of wildlife at Bystock for a day of fun and exploration with pond dipping, bug hunting and craft activities for children. Guided walks around the site and refreshments will also be available. Uneven terrain, so please wear suitable footwear. No need to book. Organised by the Devon Wildlife Trust and Exmouth Local Group. For information call: Access from the North entrance. Directions from Exmouth - Drive to the top of Hulham Road (B3180), take the short right hand fork to the junction (B3179). Take the minor road opposite. Drive for approx. half a mile, entrance on right hand side, 100m past Wrights Lane. 4

6 Wild Family Fun Offwell Woodland Education Centre 10am - 12:30pm Join Woodland Centre Warden Dougal for family activities around the heathland, woodland and pond habitats at this picturesque education centre with lakeside picnic facilities bring a picnic. Donation 3 per person. Booking only Nightjar Hunt - the Commons 8:30pm - 11pm Join the wardens of the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust on a hunt to see and hear this distinctive nocturnal bird on East Budleigh Common, and learn more about the history of this fascinating site. 8 Reptile Ramble - Fire Beacon Hill Local Nature Reserve 9am - 11am Get up early to search for elusive reptiles on this heathland reserve with the District Council Rangers who will be checking the reptile havens. The strenuous walk up the hill is well worth the effort for the views from the top. Cost: 2 for under 16, 3 Adult Book on Meet the Royal Marines Woodbury Castle car park (SY033873) 10:00am 3:00pm Woodbury Common is the primary training ground of the Royal Marines who are an important conservation partner of the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust. Come and meet the troops, inspect their kit, find out about their history on the Commons, and join in on adventurous family activities! Heather and a lot more! Why not join our team of RSPB volunteers on practical heathland management tasks and give our wildlife a helping hand. Stay for a short time or the whole day. Tools/gloves provided. Bring a packed lunch, wear suitable clothing/footwear. 11 Heathland and Quarry Walks 10am - 12 noon & 2pm - 4pm A fascinating and rare opportunity to go behind the scenes of this working quarry with Bardon Aggregate Industries, the Conservation Manager of the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust and the RSPB to discover more about future plans to recreate heathland habitats once quarrying has ceased. For safety reasons booking is essential: RSPB Heath Week Best of the Blackdowns 10am - 1pm A walk around Blackdown and Sampford commons with Dr David Allen, to look at the local flora and fauna. 13 Donations welcome. RSPB Aylesbeare Reserve - Dawn to Dusk Day Darties at Dawn - 06:30am to 9am Make the most of the early morning and enjoy the heathland awakening. Suitable for all ages. Followed at about 8:30 by a magical BBQ breakfast on the heath using tasty local produce. 7 donation requested. Water and Wellies - 11am to 12:30pm Come along for some wet n wild fun and discover amazing facts about our pondlife from pond skaters to dragonflies. Nets provided but please bring wellies. Things with Wings - 11am to 1pm Aylesbeare Reserve has the highest number of species of butterfly, dragonfly and damselfly of any other RSPB reserve. Join our warden on a search for as many as you can find! Things with Wings - 2pm to 3:30pm Another chance to look for butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. See how many you can tick off on our checklist. Willow Weaving and Art on the Heath 2pm to 4pm Be inspired by our heathland wildlife and make your own wild creation to take home. 4 to cover materials Goodnight Heath Week, hello bats, moths and nightjars 8:30pm to 11pm To round off a super Heath Week join us as we listen out for the beautiful song of the nightjar on this walk. 14 Heath Week Photographing the Heathland Landscape 9:30am 5.00pm To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty join local professional landscape photographer Adrian Oakes on a one-day photographic course to capture the wild splendour of the heaths and associated woodlands. The morning will be spent on Woodbury Common, with the afternoon covering all aspects of photographic technique at Clinton Devon Estate s Rolle Office. 50 (includes buffet lunch, tea and coffee).
