1 It has been a brilliant week for Take One Picture Week. Every afternoon, each year group completed activities such as producing an artistic piece, drama, imaginative story writing, models and digital media linked to the picture The Castle of Muiden in Winter by Beerstraaten. Thank you to everyone who came to the open classroom! The children were so excited and proud to share what they have done and have learnt. Here is an overview of what each year group has been up to this week: Page 1

2 Year R: In Squirrel class, they discussed what they could see in the picture, discussing the weather, scenery, different seasons and what a castle needs to survive. From this, the children each made a castle using clay. Next they created a crayon and water colour painting of a chosen season. Some children created all seasons on one painting. They all looked beautiful and different. To go on the paintings the children made a textured castle using glue and grey materials. The paintings showed great detail, well done Squirrel classs. Year One: In Year One, the children also created clay and stick models of castles and seasoned pictures using paints. With inspiration from the picture the children made acrostic poems. Here is one of them; C is for dark clouds A is for artist S is for skating on ice T is for tower L is for landscape E is for extraordinary picture. To finish off the week the children designed a coat of armour for if they were knights. Great job Year One! Page 2

3 Year Two: Year Two have created a portfolio of work to show just how busy they have been. Just to name a few things they have done painting, used oil pastels, danced to dramatic music linked to the picture, used Bee-Bots to direct the people to the castle and created stories to suggest what the people are doing. Wow Year Two, you really have been busy bees! Year Three The children in Year 3 have used oil pastels to create a castle using different shapes. They were inspired by Paul Klee s picture called The Castle and the Sun who also uses colour and shape to create a picture. True artists! Well done Year Three. Page 3

4 Year Four: In Year Four, the children used tissue paper to create a landscape scene of the castle focusing on seasons. They created castle mazes and invited Year 2 to use the Bee-Bots to try and escape them! Also, Year Four wrote poems to describe the Castle of Muiden in Winter and created green screen videos giving lots of information about the painting! Fabulous work Year Four. Year Five: Year Five have focused on sky scape studies and have created their own using water colour paints. From this they cut out the castle from the picture to add it to their study. Using their creative writing skills, the children also wrote what could be happening from inside the castle. Great work Year Five! Page 4

5 Year Six: In Year Six, they have also been looking at different seasons and have created watercolour painting to show the changes that happen during each season. Linking to their digital media unit, they cut out an image of the castle and added it on to their paintings. They have also been using their creative skills to write stories that create suspense, using the painting as a starting point! Well done Year Six. Page 4
