1 POTTSTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT Course: 2 Dimensional Design Time Frame: K-12, class times/sessions vary Elementary: avg 3 class periods Secondary: avg 6 class periods Big Idea: Two-dimensional art consists of paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs, which differ from each other primarily in the technique of their execution Essential Questions: How does a two-dimensional artwork differ from a three-dimensional artwork? What are different materials artist use to create two-dimensional artworks? How does the subject matter change a viewers response to a two-dimensional artwork? How do the technical elements of an artwork make an artists vision appear the way they wish it to appear? 2 Registration Serigraphy Etching Collagraph Relief Printing Monoprint Lithography Foreground Middleground Background Content/Skills: The student will learn: 1 that drawing involves concentration, seeing, perceiving, thinking, and gross and fine motor skills 2 that drawing employs a variety of techniques, styles, and media 3 that painting is an art form used in many societies and cultures that involves creating an image using paint as a vehicle of expression in a realistic, abstract or nonobjective manner 4 that painting employs a variety of techniques, styles and media 5 that painting can be used on a two-dimensional or threedimensional surfaces 6 that painting involves the use of the art elements and principles 7 that printmaking is a diverse art form used in many societies and cultures over time and involves reproducing an image to achieve copies The student will be able to: 8 draw using perceptual skills 9 see the effects of light on an object (shadows, light source, high-lights) and translate these effects into drawing media 10 work in a greater variety of media and techniques
