3 Kia Ora Welcome to creative Kāpiti Just 40 minutes north of Wellington, Kāpiti offers an exciting and varied arts culture in a relaxing and attractive coastal environment. I invite you to use this guide to explore some of the huge range of creative talent on the coast. Visual, fibre and digital artists, sculptors, musicians, writers, actors, dancers, filmmakers, jewellers and potters are all celebrated members of our vibrant arts scene. Enjoy the rich and varied Kāpiti arts scene throughout the year. Watch out for Kāpiti concerts, exhibitions, performances and other events with listings in the press and on events websites. A number of the studios and galleries in this guide are found in interesting, friendly, coastal villages so you can also enjoy our lively café scene or walk on the beach, beside the river or through one of our many parks. The artists listed enjoy having visitors to view and talk about the artworks they create. Often they will be able to show you some of the techniques used in their creation. If you want more, come back again during the first weekend of November for the annual Kāpiti Coast Arts Trail. Please check exact dates on our website. We re easy to find off State Highway 1. You can come on the train or fly into our new Kāpiti Airport from Auckland and, after November 2013, also from Christchurch. We warmly welcome your visit. Jenny Rowan QSO, JP Mayor of Kāpiti Coast District We value your feedback. Kāpiti Coast District Council, kapiti.council@kapiticoast.govt.nz or phone Printed September 2013 Here is a blend of 31 artists studios and galleries. Opening hours vary between venues and some may not have EFTPOS. Every effort has been made to ensure all the information was correct at the time of printing.
