1 Camera Bag This backpack is small, but holds a lot of stuff. I use mine as a camera bag, ensuring I can take my camera, as well as lenses with me everywhere, and still have my hands free. Requirements:-.5m heavy duty fabric, such as denim (main fabric).5m lining fabric 55cm zip to co-ordinate with your main fabric 20cm zip to co-ordinate with your main fabric 2.5m 38mm webbing for straps 24cm 10mm elastic for outside pockets 2 x 38mm D rings 2 x 38mm strap adjusters Notes: All seam allowances are 4mm If you use a lighter weight fabric, line your bag with heavy weight wadding, as well as the lining fabric.

2 Instructions 1. Cut out all of the pattern pieces, in the main fabric, lining and wadding, according to the pattern pieces. 2. Take one of the backpack front/back pieces, in the main fabric, and mark up the embroidery design, as per the pattern piece. 3. Hoop the main fabric, with tear away stabiliser and embroider the camera onto the backpack front. 4. Remove all of the excess stabiliser, and press.

3 5. Take the 2 inner pocket pieces, and with right sides together, stich across the top. Fold out and press. Set aside. 6. Take the two outside pocket pieces, and lay out one piece in the main fabric, with one piece of the lining fabric on top (right sides together). Stitch across the top, and press out and back. 7. Take the elastic, and cut into two 12cm pieces.

4 8. With a piece of marking chalk, mark down 2cm from the top of the pocket. 9. Place a piece of the elastic between the lining and the main fabric, and stitch down into the seam allowance at one side. 10. Pull the elastic to the other side of the pocket, and stitch down into the seam allowance. 11. Pin and stitch along the chalk line to encase the elastic.

5 12. To complete the pockets, pull the bottom sections of the pocket together. Stitch. Set aside. 13. Take the embroidered front backpack panel, and lay the front pocket lining piece (both from the main fabric) on top, aligning the sides. 14. Copy the markings for the pocket, and stitch around the markings.

6 15. Cut through the middle of the markings (as per the photos), and turn the lining piece out. Press. 16. Lay the 20cm zipper over the back opening, and pin in place. Stitch. 17. Take the second front pocket lining piece (from the lining fabric. And stitch to the Main fabric pocket lining piece. Press.

7 18. Take the two zipper gusset pieces, from the main fabric, and fold in half along the longest side. Press 19. Attach the zipper to each side of the zipper gusset. 20. Trim the zipper gusset to the same width as the bottom gusset (you need to do this after the zipper is attached, as different zippers are different widths). 21. Take the gusset bottom and mark up the pocket placement line. 22. With right sides together, line up the bottom of the pocket, with the pocket placement line. Pin the pocket in place and stitch. Repeat for the second pocket.

8 23. Join the guest bottom to the zipper gusset. Topstitch. 24. Join the gusset to the backpack front. Fold the backpack front in half, and place pins in the top and bottom. Fold the gusset in half, and pin top and bottom. Match up the pins, and with right sides together, pin around the rest of the backpack. Stitch.

9 25. From the webbing, cut 2 x 10cm strips. Cut the remainder of the webbing in half. Seal all of the ends of the webbing with an open flame. 26. Take the two 10cm straps, and fold over a D ring. Attach to the bottom of the bag back, along the placement lines.

10 Take the two long straps, and stitch to the top of the bag back, along the placement lines. 27. Stitch the bag back to the gusset, creating the bag. (As a hint, ensure that the zipper is partially open, making it easy to turn right side out once stitching is complete). The outer bag is now complete! 28. Take the back lining piece, and baste the inner pocket to it. 29. Fold the zipper gusset in half lengthways and press.

11 30. Attach the zipper gusset to the bottom gusset. 31. Stitch the gusset to the front and back lining pieces. Press 32. Place the bag lining inside the bag, and pin along the zipper. Hand stitch the lining to the zipper.

12 33. Take the two strap adjusters and thread onto the straps. 34. Thread the strap through the D ring for each strap. 35. Thread the end of each strap back through the strap adjuster. Stitch. Your backpack is now complete.
