2 Chritma Ornament - Peace 008 Author: Company: Copyright: Webite: Fabric: Grid Size: Deign Area: Katherine Martin Tripp Extra Mile Mercantile Katherine Martin Tripp Aida or Evenweave 6W x 6H.4 x.4 4 x 4 titche) DMC 890 pitachio green - ul dk DMC 70 chritma green - lt DMC 796 royal blue - dk DMC chritma red KRE 00 Gold DMC 5 violet - vy lt DMC 909 emerald green - vy dk DMC White white DMC 554 violet - lt DMC 04 chritma red - md DMC 798 delft blue - dk DMC 55 violet Backtitch Line: DMC-890 pitachio green - ul dk KRE-00 Gold DMC-55 violet - md DMC-04 chritma red - md DMC-796 royal blue - dk In the Photograph: I embroidered Chritma Ornament - Peace on 4-count Aida with DMC 6-trand cotton flo, accented it with gold Kreinik Metallic flo. The front and back are titched on two eparate quare, then connected with half titche. The ornament i padded, then finihed off with a gold ribbon hanger and urrounding fringe. You get the bet of both world with thi et of ornament--beautiful and ophiticated deign that are quick and eay to complete. Thi i a great project for beginner or youth, while experienced titcher will be thrilled with how many they can complete in a hort amount of time. Thee are perfect gift for coworker, teacher, friend, family--either ingly or a a et. Stitch Complexity: Full cro titche, half titche, backtitche, traight titche, and French knot. Sparkle i added to the dove with metallic half titche on top of the cro titche. For detailed titch diagram click on the How to button. How to Cro Stitch thi Deign: If you already know how to cro titch, the checklit below will get you on your way. Jut learning? Simply click on the Getting Started button in the menu on the left of our webite. There, you will find link to additional intruction and diagram. Quick Start Step - Review thi Chart Eliminate urprie by reading thee intruction and reviewing the chart thoroughly before you begin titching. Identify and learn any unfamiliar titche lited in Stitch Complexity above. There are four pattern page: One chart the front deign... Thee intruction follow thi page.) a econd chart the back. To allow for the fringe, both of thee include an extra half inch of fabric on all four ide of the the titched deign increae thi if you'd like longer fringe; reduce it for horter fringe). Note: In order to not cover up the underlying cro titche, the front pattern doe not include all of the traight titche that will ultimately make up the branche. The third page how the dove detail. It i firt titched with full cro titche in the DMC cotton flo. Next, it i titched over with half titche uing the Krenik metallic flo. Ue only the half titch diagram that matche the direction of the top diagonal of the underlying DMC titche. A fourth page illutrate how to titch thee branche, with each ubequent level of traight titche hown individually. The red and gold line are ued only to ditinguih the titche. Ue the correct flo color from the legend when titching the branche onto the Peace ornament. Step - Select and Prepare Your Fabric To titch the deign exactly a it i in the photgraph, imply ue the material decribed. If you decide to u a fabric other than 4- count, conider how large you want the finihed ornament to be be ure to include the fringe in thee meaurement). If you are uing the deign on a greeting card or in a frame, you can eliminate the fringe and imply add enough around the edge for mounting. Be generou--it' eay enough to cut away unwanted fabric after the titching i done. Bright white Aida really tand out on a green tree. But if you like your decoration to have an antique feel, try uing off-white or cream fabric. If you are indeed making thi deign into an ornament, there i no need to treat the edge. You will want the edge to fray eaily when making them into fringe.
3 If thi i not your firt cro titch project, thi deign i till mall enough to eliminate the gridline. Review our page on Preparing Fabric for other tip and technique. Step - Select and Prepare Your Flo Ue the color lited above or ubtitute one of your own. If uing fabric with a different thread count, you may need to adjut the number of trand of flo you'll ue. To help you decide, click the How To... button on the left menu. At the bottom of the page, you'll find a Flo Coverage link. Thi page how cro titch example uing from one to ix trand on fabric with different thread count. Still uncertain? Work a few ample titche in the corner of your fabric. DMC Flo: A you ue each of the DMC cotton flo color, cut the flo into trip 5 to 8 long. For fuller and thicker titche, eparate all ix trand and then recombine them into the number of trand you will ultimately ue. I dicovered, while titching the Joy ornament, that the red border DMC 04 and ) eemed to be bleeding into the fabric depite being kept perfectly dry). I ran everal trand of each under cold water, gently working in a mall drop of mild dihwahing detergent. To my urprie, I laid it on a white towel and my upicion were confirmed--the red ran I repeated the proce above until no more color leeched. It dried in no time, and howed no dicernable color fading. Even though I did not plan for the ornament to ever get wet, I felt more confident knowing now it wouldn't matter. Kreinik Metallic Flo: Cut the Kreinik Metallic flo into trip to 5 long, a metallic tend to eparate and break after prolonged titching. Do not ue the ewing method with metallic flo. To titch over area already cro-titched with DMC flo, witch to a lightly larger needle. Thi make a bigger hole for the metallic flo to lip through. Becaue there i le friction on the metallic flo, it will eparate and break le often. Becaue of thi pecialty flo, thi deign i not meant to be titched on fabric that will be worn, wahed or ironed. However, if you do want to ue it in thi manner napkin, bread cloth, clothing, etc.), imply eliminate the metallic flo overtitching. Step 4 - Stitch the Deign Each quare containing a ymbol repreent one titch; the legend indicate which color to ue. I like the tability and trength of Aida for thee ornament. But if you prefer omething with an obviou over-under weave like linen), the placement of the firt titch i critical. To prevent puckering and to provide tability, the firt diagonal of the firt titch mut tart and end where a vertical fabric thread croe over a horizontal thread. Ue the following number of trand for the front and back deign: Cro titche - trand Backtitche outlining w/dmc flo) - trand Backtitche outlining the white holly berrie with Krenik gold) Half titche join ide) - trand Half titche dove w/krenik flo) trand Straight titche branche) - trand French knot colon after from) - trand Backtitch text on back of ornament - ee below Follow thi order when titching: Cro titch the entire front deign, except for the tree branche and dove, and outline with backtitche where indicated. Dove: Fill in the dove with cro titche uing DMC flo. Then, uing trand of the Krenik lilac metallic flo, overtitch the dove with backtitche. Chooe the pattern diagram where the backtitche are lanted in the ame direction a the top diagonal of the underlying cro titch. Outline the dove with backtitche Branche: Stitch the branche with traight titche. Follow the pattern in order from top to bottom. Ue the color on the legend in thee tep: =center tem hown here in dark green), =firt layer of needle hown in medium green), =econd layer of needle hown in gold), =third layer of needle hown in red), 4=repeat the center tem again. You do not need to follow the branch titching exactly. If you get the econd layer done and like the look, top there. I actually conidered topping after the center tem and firt needle were titched. A alway, titch to pleae yourelf. Thi i what make every cro titch piece unique. Cro titch the corner on the back deign a charted. Backtitch the letter: trand in dark blue for Merry Chritma uing Alphabet 06) trand in lavender DMC for the year uing Alphabet 06) trand in metallic lilac titched on top of the year trand in green for the to name uing Alphabet 0) trand in red for the from name uing Alphabet 0) Select the Graph Paper button on the left menu to print blank graph paper. Next, elect the Free Alphabet button to print
4 pattern for the lettering. Click on Alphabet ' for help with lettering. Step 5 - Aemble the Ornament Align the corner of the front and back deign, wrong ide together. Uing half titche in the fabric row immediately urrounding the deign, titch acro the top of the ornament. See detailed diagram and intruction by clicking Join Side from the button on the left. Thread a narrow ribbon through a larger needle in the ame way you thread flo. Bring your needle up through the top center hole of the ornament front. Then go down through the top center hole of the ornament back. Adjut the length of the loop, then tie the raw end together thee knotted end will ultimately be inide the ornament). Stitch the remaining ide together. Stop when you have only one half of one ide left open. Lightly tuff the inide with batting or other filler to about / inch thick. Stitch the ornament cloed. Bury the end of the flo by running your needle into the center of the tuffed ornament, then out again. Pull the flo taut, and cut. Flatten the ornament, and the end hould diappear back into the center of the ornament padding. Leave the fabric edge the length they are, or trim them to your preference. Pull away the horizontal row of cloth on each ide to make the fringe. See detailed diagram and intruction by clicking Make Fringe from the button on the left.
