Adobe Acrobat 2. Select page one and ask your computer to print just that single page. 3. In the printing window, set the page scaling to none or to scale at 100% so it will print fullsize. It should not say scale to fit or it will shrink everything on the page. 4. Check that the test print on page one is the correct size. If so, print the remaining pages. If not, check the printer settings to reduce or enlarge accordingly. Apple Preview 5. Once all the pages are printed, trim the right and bottom margins off of each page. 6. Line up the numbers on the four sides of each page to form a single sheet of paper as pictured to the left. 7. Tape the pages together, then proceed as usual by cutting out your desired size. 5 INSTRUCTIONS Seam allowances are included in the pattern and are 5/8 unless otherwise stated in the instructions. WAISTBAND 1. Separate the four waistband pieces. Designate two as the outside of the waistband (waistband) and two as the inside lining of the waistband (lining). 2. Place the two waistband pieces on your ironing board, wrong side up. Line up the two interfacing pieces on top of the waistband pieces, with the glue side of the interfacing and the wrong side of the fabric together. Note, the interfaced waistband pieces will be the outside of the waistband and not the lining. 3. Press the interfacing in place using the instructions from the manufacturer. 4. Place the two waistband pieces right sides together and pin along one of the short ends. Sew together along this seam. Press the seam allowance open. 5. Place the two lining pieces right sides together and pin along one of the short ends. Sew together along this seam. Grade the seam by trimming the seam allowance in half and press open. 6 SIDE SEAM 6. Place the two skirt pieces right sides together and pin along one of the two side seams. Sew together along this seam. Finish the seam allowance as desired and press. WAISTBAND 7. Place the interfaced waistband on top of the skirt, right sides together. Pin in place, easing the skirt to fit the waistband. Tip: Pin at the ends and the center seam first, then pin in between. 8. Sew the waistband to the skirt. Make sure not to form any pinches along the way. 9. Grade the seam allowance by trimming the skirt to 1/4 and the waistband to 3/8. 7 ZIPPER 10. Prepare the side seam for zipper insertion by finishing the seam allowances first. Tip: For a smooth seam, consider ironing interfacing where the zipper will be sewn to strengthen the seam and prevent buckling. Be sure to pair the interfacing s weight to your chosen fabric. 11. With the wrong side of the invisible zipper up, press the teeth so they are standing straight up at a 90-degree angle from the zipper tape. Do not press the teeth flat. 12. Place the left side of the invisible zipper on the left side of the skirt side seam, right sides together. Line up the top stopper to be 5/8 from the top of the waistband. 13. With an invisible zipper foot attached to your machine, sew the left side of the zipper in place, stitching just to the right of the teeth. 14. Rotate the zipper to the right twice, so the right side of the zipper is face down on the right side of the skirt. Pin in place and sew as you did the left side. Tip: To make sure the waistband seams line up, zip up the zipper and mark where the zipper intersects with the seam, then line that spot up on the right side of the skirt when pinning the zipper in place. 8 15. Close the zipper. Switch to a regular zipper foot and sew from the end of the zipper stitching to the hem. Press the seam open and hand tack the end of the zipper tape to the seam allowance to keep it in place. WAISTBAND 16. Fold the bottom edge of the lining up 5/8 wrong sides together and press. 17. Place the lining on top of the waistband, right sides together. Pin the lining to the waistband. Be sure to fully open the zipper seam. 9 . Sew from the fold on the lining to the corner. Pivot and sew along the top of the waistband. Pivot when you reach the other side of the zipper seam and sew down to the fold on the opposite side of the lining. 19. Flip the lining up, away from the skirt. Press both the lining and the seam allowance up, away from the skirt. 20. Understitch the waistband, sewing the lining to the seam allowance. Get as far into the corners as you can. 21. Trim the seam allowance and clip the corners at the top of the zipper seam. 22. Fold the lining into the skirt and press the top seam, rolling the understitching to the inside of the skirt. Use a point turner to form a perfect corner at the top of the zipper. 23. Pin the lining to the skirt. 10 24. On the right side of the skirt, sew the lining by stitching in the ditch along the seam where the waistband was attached to the skirt. Do not sew over the zipper teeth. HEMMING 25. Hang the skirt for at least 24 hours to allow the bias to fall. Trim the hem to even if necessary. 26. Stitch a line 1/4 from the raw edge of the hem. Fold along that line, wrong sides together and press. 27. Fold the hem another 1/4 and press. 28. Topstitch along the top of the fold and press again. The Anya Skirt features a narrow lined and interfaced waistband, and is finished with an invisible 9 zipper in the side seam. Difficulty : DESIGNED FOR MEDIUM & LIGHTWEIGHT WOVEN FABRICS Suggested Fabrics: cotton shirting, quilt weight cotton, lawn, chambray, linen, seersucker, voile, rayon, or silk. Not suitable for directional prints, stripes, or plaids.
