Yardage requirements for this pattern may allow for excess yardage to accommodate specific placement of motifs or to allow for any fussy-cutting to achieve the finished quilt design. While every attempt has been made to give accurate measurements, yardage requirements, and construction directions; this does not allow personal variations in measuring, cutting, and or sewing. The enclosed directions were used in the construction of the original quilt.

4 The Basics Instructions for TWO (2) HST blocks: The unfinished HSTs are 5 and you will need to cut one 5 ½ square of each colour needed in the HST. 1. Grab one square of each colour and place right sides together. Draw a line on the back of the lighter fabric. Using the line as a guide, sew a 1/4" seam on BOTH sides of the line. 2. Cut along the middle line and press seam (pressing the seam toward the darker fabric) 3. Trim the HSTs to 5 NOTE: - You will need 12 HST blocks comprised of colours B and C (this will use 6 squares of each colour). - You will need 156 HST blocks comprised of colours A and C (this will use 78 squares of each colour). 3

5 Instructions for Block 1: The unfinished block is 5 and you will need to cut a 5 and a 2½ square of colour C and a 3¾ square of colours A and B. You will need 28 of these blocks. 1. Place the 5 square (colour C) right side up. Place a 3¾ square of colour B right side down on the larger square. Mark diagonally across the back of the smaller square and sew along this line (shown in blue). Cut 1/4" seam allowance (shown in red) on the outside of the line you just sewed on. Press the resultant flap flat. 2. Place a 3¾ square of colour A in the opposite corner to the corner as colour B and repeat step Place a 2½ square of colour C (right side down) over the triangle of colour B and repeat step 1. 4

6 Instructions for TWO (2) Block 2 blocks: The unfinished block is 5 and you will need to cut a 5½ square of colours A and C, two 4⅛ squares of colour B and two 2¾ squares of colour C. You will need to make 18 of this block, cut into two to make Place the 5½ square of colour C right side up. Place a 4⅛ square of colour B right side down on the larger square. Mark diagonally across the back of the smaller square and sew along this line (shown in blue). Cut 1/4" seam allowance (shown in red) on the outside of the line you just sewed on. Press the resultant flap flat. 2.Place a 2¾ square of colour C (right side down) over the triangle of colour B and repeat step Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the diagonally opposite corners to create this block: 5

7 4.Grab a 5½ square of colour A marked as you would with an HST block and place right sides together with the block you have created so far. Follow the instructions of creating HSTs. Make sure the line on the square is facing the same direction as the 'lines' of the block it is paired with. 6

8 Assembling the quilt For demonstrative purposes, I have labelled and not coloured the plan (so you can colour-in to help visualise your quilt). STEP 1: Assemble the following seven rows: You will need to piece: - two (2x) of rows 1 and 2 - four (4x) of rows 3, 4 and 5 - one (1x) of rows 6 and 7 STEP 2: Assemble all 18 rows in the following order: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 - rotate rows 5, 4 and o - 6,7,3,4,5, - rotate rows 5, 4, 3, 2 and o as illustrated on the following page. 7
