1 Faux Cable Crochet Blanket This intermediate pattern uses U.S. standard crochet terms and requires five stitches single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, front post triple crochet and slip stitch. The sample shown was made with Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick n Quick in Hudson Bay, Bernat Wool-Up Bulky in Denim and Bernat Sofftee Chunky in Wine. You will need: (main colour, Hudson Bay) super bulky (#6) yarn 13 skeins (5oz, 140g each) (accent colour 1, red) super bulky (#6) yarn 2 skeins (3.5oz, 100 each) (accent colour 2, blue) super bulky (#6) yarn 1 skein (6oz, 170g) 8mm hook Darning needle Scissors

2 Note My accent colour 2 (blue) was a bit thicker in weight than accent colour 1(red) and so, in working the hem and border I use HDC for the red and sc for the blue. This gives the illusion that the stitches are the same size. If you have two accent colours that are the same weight exactly then I encourage you to work with either HDC or sc and not both. I chose these colours as they are the closest match to the Hudson Bay red and blue that I could find and so in writing the pattern I wished to share how to recreate this sample blanket exactly. If you are using other colours or different brands then please adjust accordingly. To make sections This blanket is made by creating 4 faux cabled sections. Each section will be 23 stitches wide and 64 rows long. To begin your first section, working with main colour (Hudson Bay) chain 24 DC in the second chain from the hook and across to the end (23) Turn, ch 2 (counts as first DC) DC in next two stitches for a total of 3 DC then, create 2 FPTR stitches for the first section of faux cableing. DC in the next 4 stitches taking care not to use the stitch that the FPTR is using.

3 FPTR, DC, FPTR, DC and FPTR to create the center faux cabled motif. DC in the next 4 stitches then do two more FPTR for the third section of faux cables. Complete the row with three more DC, taking care to create the last one in the ch space of the previous row.

4 Turn and ch 2, then DC across (wrong side) always taking care to complete the first DC in the second chain from the hook and the last DC in the chain space from the previous row. You should always have 23 stitches in each row. Turn and ch 2, 2DC, 2FPTR, 4DC, FPTR, DC, FPTR, DC, FPTR, 4DC, 2FPTR, 3DC (right side) Turn and ch 2, DC across (wrong side) Continue until you ve completed 64 rows. Make 4 sections in total. To join sections You may have your favourite method for joining sections together and you are welcome to do as you see best. I ve shared below how I stitched my sections together. It provides a nice ribbing down the stitch line which I like for this pattern.

5 Put two sections wrong sides together. Begin in the top, right corner and work left. Using your first accent colour (red), tie yarn in corner space of section 1 (the front section, closest to you) to begin. Place your hook through corner ch sp of both sections and sl st to join together. DC in second space from the corner on section 1 only then DC in the first space on section two (the back section, furthest from you.) DC in the next space on section 1 and alternate, DCing in each space back and forth as you work left down the sections. Repeat to join next two sections. Be consistent, using only the DC spaces, or you may end up with more stitches on one section than another and this may make your sections appear to be different lengths. Fear not, just pull the stitches out and re work. The key is consistent spacing. Inside Border When all sections are attached, work in hdc all the way around the blanket with the accent colour 1 (red) for a border. (see note at the beginning of this pattern, you may wish to work in sc and that would be fine) When you can work into the stitches (at the top of the sections,) then do so. When you cannot (at the bottom of the sections, and on the sides) then work in the spaces, again, be consistent in your stitch placement. Fasten off Hems For the top edge hem, using accent colour 2 (blue) work sc all the way across the top edge in each stitch space (not into the stitch) When you reach the end fasten off. Switch to accent colour 1 (red) and hdc across, fasten off. Back to blue, sc across and fasten off. Repeat all steps on bottom edge beginning and ending with accent colour 2 (blue) fasten off. Outside Border With accent colour 1 (red) hdc around entire blanket working 2 hdc in each corner space around to increase and avoid having your corners curl up. When you ve completed one row of red, sl st together then fasten off and switch back to your main body colour (Hudson Bay) to do one last row of hdc around the entire blanket again, this time working 2hdc in each corner space and then 2hdc in the next adjacent space to increase at the corners. This will ensure your corners lay flat. Sl st to join and fasten off. Weave in ends. Congratulations! You have a lovely warm and thick blanket!
