Cutting: Red: Purple: Green: Blue: Gold: LOGS!

You'll need four Bullseyes for your quilt. Go controlled or scrappy.

1 1/2" square 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 8 ea.

1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 8 ea.

Stitch a Purple square to the Red square.

2. Add the Purple strips to the remaining sides of the red square.

Then the 5 1/2" Green strips on the remaining sides. 4.

3 Cutting: Red: Purple: Green: Blue: Gold: LOGS! Block One Bullseye Here is the first block for the LOGS! quilt. You'll need four Bullseyes for your quilt. Go controlled or scrappy...your choice! 4 ea. 1 1/2" square 8 ea. 1 1/2" square 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 8 ea. 1 1/2" X 9 1/2" strips 1. Stitch a Purple square to the Red square. Stitch another Purple square to the opposite side of the Red square. 2. Add the Purple strips to the remaining sides of the red square. 3. Now back to the first sides, add the 3 1/2" Green strips. Then the 5 1/2" Green strips on the remaining sides. 4. Next add the Blue strips, always starting on the same side with the shorter strips. 5. Finish off with the Gold strips. The block should measure 9 1/2". Make four blocks. Step 3. Step 4. Step 1 & 2. Step 5.

Block Two Courthouse Steps 1 Courthouse Steps is a true classic block.

Cutting: Light: Red: Gold: Blue: Green: Purple: 32 ea. 1 1/2" square 32 ea.

1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 16 ea. 1 1/2" squares 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 32 ea.

Stitch another Light Square to the opposite side of the Red square. 2.

Now back to the first sides, add 3 1/2" Light strips.

Next the 5 1/2" Light strips, always starting on the same side.

4 Block Two Courthouse Steps 1 Courthouse Steps is a true classic block. It is the backbone of the LOGS! quilt. We will use 16 ea in this configuration. Cutting: Light: Red: Gold: Blue: Green: Purple: 32 ea. 1 1/2" square 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 16 ea. 1 1/2" squares 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 32 ea. 1 1/2" X 9 1/2" strips Step Stitch a Light Square to the Red square. Stitch another Light Square to the opposite side of the Red square. 2. Add Gold strips to the remaining sides of the Red square. 3. Now back to the first sides, add 3 1/2" Light strips. Then 5 1/2" Blue strips on the remaining sides. 4. Next the 5 1/2" Light strips, always starting on the same side. Then the 7 1/2" Green Strips. 5. Finish off with the 7 1/2" Light strips and the 9 1/2" Purple strips. The block should now measure 9 1/2". Make sixteen blocks. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. Make 16

Block Three Pineapple The Pineapple is a bit more complex than the Bullseye and Courthouse Steps, but it is easier than it looks when you use the Diagonal Seams (Snowball) Method And you only need 5

1 1/2 X 9 1/2 Blue: Brown: Green: Purple: 20 ea. 2 1/4 squares 20 ea. 2 5/8 squares 20 ea. 3 squares 20 ea. 3 1/2 squares NOTE: Press all squares on one diagonal to guide your stitching. 1. Stitch a Light A strip to opposite sides of a Red square.

Stitch a Light A strip to opposite sides of a Red square. Stitch a Light B strip to remaining sides. 2. Next lay a Blue square Right Sides Together (RST) in one corner of the Step 1 unit. Stitch along pressed guide. Press triangle in place and trim away excess. (This is the snowball process) 3. Repeat for other 3 corners. Note that the points should meet in the middle at a point 1/4 from the edge. Square to Now add Light Bs to opposite sides of the block and follow those with Light Cs. Then snowball the Brown squares in the corners, press and trim. Square to 5 3/4. Note the corner of previous round is now cut off. 5. Add the Light Cs, then the Light Ds and snowball the Green squares on the resulting square. Square to 7 1/2. 6. To complete the block, add the Light Es then the Fs and snowball the Purple squares. Square block to 9 1/2. Make 5 Pineapple Blocks. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 6. Step 5.

Block Four Courthouse Steps Variation Here is a different kind of Courthouse steps with only one set of steps! Looks kind of like a wedding cake, doesn t it?

1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips Courthouse Steps Variation Brown: 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 9 1/2" strips block below... 1. Stitch a Light Square to the Red square.

Now back to the first sides, add 3 1/2" Light strips. Then a 5 1/2" Light log and a 5 1/2 Purple strip on the appropriate remaining sides as shown. Should measure 5 1/2. 4.

Finish off with the 7 1/2" Light strips and a 9 1/2" Light with a 9 1/2 Brown strip. The block should now measure 9 1/2". Make Twelve blocks.

6 Block Four Courthouse Steps Variation Here is a different kind of Courthouse steps with only one set of steps! Looks kind of like a wedding cake, doesn t it? We need 12 Courthouse Steps Variations for the interior of the quilt. Cutting: Light: Round 1: 24 ea. 1 1/2" square Round 2: Round 3: Round 4: 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 24 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 24 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 24 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 9 1/2" strips Red: 12 ea. 1 1/2" squares Make 12 Blue: 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips Purple: 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips Note: See alternate Cutting and Assembly of slightly different Green: 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips Courthouse Steps Variation Brown: 12 ea. 1 1/2" X 9 1/2" strips block below Stitch a Light Square to the Red square. Stitch another Light Square to the opposite side of the Red square. 2. Add one Light 3 1/2 and one Blue 3 1/2 log strip to the remaining sides of the Red square. Should measure 3 1/2 3. Now back to the first sides, add 3 1/2" Light strips. Then a 5 1/2" Light log and a 5 1/2 Purple strip on the appropriate remaining sides as shown. Should measure 5 1/2. 4. Next add the two 5 1/2" Light strips, always starting on the same side, keeping the lights together. Then one 7 1/2 Light and one 7 1/2 Green Strip as shown. (7 1/2 ) 5. Finish off with the 7 1/2" Light strips and a 9 1/2" Light with a 9 1/2 Brown strip. The block should now measure 9 1/2". Make Twelve blocks. Alternate Courthouse Steps Variation block with fewer pieces Cutting: Light: 12 ea. 4 1/2 X 9 1/2 24 ea. 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 (A) 24 ea. 1 1/2 X 2 1/2 (B) 24 ea. 1 1/2 X 3 1/2 (C) 24 ea. 1 1/2 X 4 1/2 (D) This is a faster option... (But not a TRUE Log Cabin!) Red: 12 ea. 1 1/2 square (D) Blue: 12 ea. 1 1/2 X 3 1/2 (C) Purple: 12 ea. 1 1/2 X 5 1/2 (B) Green: 12 ea. 1 1/2 X 7 1/2 (A) Brown: 12 ea. 1 1/2 X 9 1/2 Stitch the Light As on opposite side of the Green, Light Bs on the Purple, Light Cs to the Blue and the Light Ds to the red. Stitch these units together to form a Cake. Add the Light 4 1/2 X 9 1/2 above the D strip to complete block. Make 12 blocks measuring 9 1/2. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5.

Block Five Plain Log Cabin Block This Block is a spacer of sorts that

7 Block Five Plain Log Cabin Block This Block is a spacer of sorts that allows our applique to really bloom! This Plain block will have applique on it. Cutting: Lights: Round 1: 24 ea. 1 1/2" square 16 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips Round 2: 16 ea. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips 16ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips Round 3: 16 ea. 1 1/2" X 5 1/2" strips 16 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips Round 4: 16 ea. 1 1/2" X 7 1/2" strips 16 ea. 1 1/2" X 9 1/2" strips Make 8 1. Stitch 3 Light 1 1/2 Squares abreast. 2. Add Light 3 1/2 Logs to the top and bottom of the Step 1. square strip. This should measure 3 1/2 X 3 1/2. 3. Now back to the first sides, add 3 1/2" Light strips. Then 5 1/2" Light logs on the appropriate remaining sides as shown. Should measure 5 1/2 square. 4. Next add the two 5 1/2" Light strips, always starting on the same side. Then the 7 1/2 Light strips. Should measure 7 1/2 square. 5. Finish off with the 7 1/2" Light strips and a 9 1/2" Light strips. The block should now measure 9 1/2". Make Eight Plain blocks. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Alternate Plain Block Cutting: Light: 8 ea. 9 1/2 Squares. That s IT! Step 4. This is a faster option... (But not a TRUE Log Cabin!) Step 5.

Then a Light F log and a Step 4 Make 16 Brown F strip on the left and a Brown G on the bottom as shown. Should measure 7 1/2. 4. Next add the G and H Light strips, Then one H Purple and one I Purple Strip as shown to complete the last round. The block should now measure 9 1/2". Make sixteen blocks.

Applique Block 6 Log Cabin Blocks Adding Applique to the Log Cabin Blocks And Eventually The Leaves to the Intersections Here is the corner vine that goes on 4 only of the Log Cabin blocks.

In the lower right hand corner is the Leaf pattern. You need 24 leaves to cover the vine intersections after the blocks are assembled. Note placement on the example shown.

The dashed box should measure 5 1/4 on your printout. If not, reprint Without Scaling in your printer preferences. The flower on these blocks should be blue. Block Seven Double Half Log Cabin In keeping with a long tradition of Quiltmakers, I have made up this Double Half Log Cabin Block to suit my needs.

11 Block Seven Double Half Log Cabin In keeping with a long tradition of Quiltmakers, I have made up this Double Half Log Cabin Block to suit my needs. It makes a beautiful border for our LOGS quilt though its construction is a bit unusual. It is a Double Half Log Cabin. Each block has two mirror imaged Half Log Cabin units, joined in the middle with a long dark center log then finished off with a single long background log across the top. We need 20 blocks like this for the borders of our quilt. Cutting: Blue: Round 1: 40 ea. 1 1/2 squares (A) Light: 40 ea. 1 1/2" squares (A) Green: 40 ea. 1 1/2" X 2 1/2" strips (B) ==================================================================================== Light: Round 2: 40 ea. 2 1/2" squares (C) Blue: 40 ea. 1 1/2 X 4 1/2 strips (D) =================================================================================== Light: Round 3: 40 ea. 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" strips (E) Purple: 40 ea. 1 1/2 X 6 1/2 strips (F) =================================================================================== Light: Round 4: 40 ea. 2 1/2" X 4 1/2" strips (G) =================================================================================== Brown: Joiners: 20 ea. 1 1/2 X 8 1/2 strips (H) Light: 20 ea. 1 1/2 X 9 1/2 strips (I) To make 20 double half log cabins, we need 40 half log cabins (20 ea. and 20 ea. REVERSED) so be sure to follow the diagrams at right and make half and half to complete the whole! Round 1: Stitch Light A to BLUE A. Make 40. Stitch GREEN B to one side. Make 20 AND 20 REVERSED. 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 Round 2:Add Light C and BLUE D. Make 20 AND 20 REVERSED. 4 1/2 X 3 1/2 Round 3: Add Light E and PURPLE F. Make 20 AND 20 REVERSED. 6 1/2 X 4 1/2 Round 4: Add Light G to top of each unit. Make 20 AND 20 REVERSED. 8 1/2 X 4 1/2 Completed Double Half Log Cabin Block Make 20. Joiners: Join the units by sewing 1 and 1 REVERSE to a BROWN H Strip. Complete the block with a Light I strip across the top. Make /2 square

12 Quilt Assembly Watch Block Orientation throughout. Follow diagrams. Assemble Rows then Sections then the whole Quilt. LOGS! Row 1 2 Log Cabins, 5 Double Half Log Cabins and 2 More Log Cabins. Make 2. LOGS! Row 2 2 Log Cabins, Wedding Cake, Plain, Wedding Cake, Plain, Wedding Cake and 2 More Log Cabins. Make 2. Be sure vine and flower applique is complete before assembly. Add Leaves after Assembly. LOGS! Row 3 1 Double Half Log Cabin, Wedding Cake, Pineapple, 3 Courthouse Steps, Pineapple, Wedding Cake and 1 Double Half Log Cabin. Make 2. Watch Orientation! LOGS! Row 4 1 Double Half Log Cabin, Plain, Courthouse Steps, Bullseye, Courthouse Steps, Bullseye, Courthouse Steps, Plain and 1 Double Half Log Cabin. Make 2. LOGS! Row 5 1 Double Half Log Cabin, Wedding Cake, 2 Courthouse Steps, Pineapple, 2 Courthouse Steps, Wedding Cake and 1 Double Half Log Cabin. Make 1 only. Next Assemble Sections: Row 1 and 2 Together. Make 2 Row 3 and 4 Together. Add Leaves Make 2. Row 5 Just One! Always add leaves at your earliest opportunity preferably right after the seam they are covering is stitched.

13 Quilt Assembly Finishing Up... Next put the sections together, reversing the two bottom sections to complete the quilt. Always add leaves at your earliest opportunity preferably right after the seam they are covering is stitched. WOW! Your Beautiful LOGS! Quilt top is finished. Add some fabulous custom quilting or a wonderful all over pantograph to complete your quilt. Bind with 9 each 2 1/2 Width of Fabric Dark strips. P.S.
