During this time, many aspects of the company were discussed and evaluated. Managers analyzed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to the company. Employee opinion was gathered beforehand and used to help determine our mission, vision, and core values. Check these out on page 2. This was a very successful meeting and we are optimistic about what 2019 will bring both the company and our employees! Women in Agriculture: If a woman wants to work in the agriculture industry, she must have grit and determination. If she wants to succeed in this industry, it may take a bit more than that.

Growing up, Laura and her five sisters learned the value of hard work through helping the family business.

6 Women in Agriculture: If a woman wants to work in the agriculture industry, she must have grit and determination. If she wants to succeed in this industry, it may take a bit more than that. Laura Lauck has both grit and determination, but also a humble confidence that most people lack. Laura was born and raised in Virginia, on her dad s horse and cattle ranch. Growing up, Laura and her five sisters learned the value of hard work through helping the family business. That work ethic has stuck with Laura, even when she moved to live with her mom (to Oregon then to Wheatland, Wyoming). In 1985, Laura met Wayde Lauck, and the two got married and started a family. Although they began their marriage traveling for construction jobs, after two years they returned to Wheatland to pursue a life of farming. Laura worked a variety of jobs, and early on she learned a valuable business lesson: Nobody is irreplaceable. Even if you do your best work, that doesn t guarantee anything. In March of 1999, Laura started at Brown Company Wheatland as the Service Manager. While this was her first management position, her knowledge of farming equipment and organization skills quickly enabled her to succeed. In the fall of 2018, Laura transitioned to Parts Manager and trained her daughter, Crissy, to take over the service department. Laura has always made it a point to manage relationships with employees and customers with respect. She has always been willing to get her hands dirty and learn something new. While she never pretended to know more than she did, she credits the helpful service department technicians for her knowledge and growth over the past twenty years. However, being service manager was only one of the hats Laura was used to wearing. She s also a devoted wife, doting mother to her three kids, and a loving grandmother to her nine grandkids. Everyone knows that managing a healthy work-life balance is difficult, but Laura does it with ease. Because she works well under pressure and thrives in stressful environments, she s able to meet the demands of both her family and her job. However, she notes she could not have done it without the help of a flexible farming schedule on Wayde s part, and understanding from her colleagues at Brown Co. To the women in this industry: Don t let anybody tell you that you can t do it because you re a girl. Don t be afraid to ask questions and learn everything you can. Take responsibility for your actions; If you don t, and you ve made a mistake, you ll never learn Laura says. She thanks the people of Brown Company, both past and present, who have treated her so well and taught her so much on her path to success. I think that if you were raised on a farm, you were born with dirt in your shoes. And once you get dirt in your shoes, you can t ever get it out. Mark Thomas

Platte County Chamber of Commerce Ag Appreciation Banquet On January 11th, members of the Brown Company family attended the 2019 Platte County Chamber of Commerce Ag Appreciation Banquet.

Beau discussed the rodeo Crissy, Jim, Rainey, and Zeus at the banquet program s focus on excellence in both the rodeo arena and the classroom.

Torrington Hosts Hay and Forage Open House Brown Company in Torrington saw over 150 customers on Feb 5th at their Open House Customer Appreciation Day.

7 Platte County Chamber of Commerce Ag Appreciation Banquet On January 11th, members of the Brown Company family attended the 2019 Platte County Chamber of Commerce Ag Appreciation Banquet. They enjoyed a wonderful dinner and heard from UW Rodeo Coach, Beau Clark. Beau discussed the rodeo Crissy, Jim, Rainey, and Zeus at the banquet program s focus on excellence in both the rodeo arena and the classroom. Congratulations to Del and Sandy Tinsley of the Divide Ranch for being named the Ag Business of the Year. A big thank you to the Chamber for hosting this successful event. Torrington Hosts Hay and Forage Open House Brown Company in Torrington saw over 150 customers on Feb 5th at their Open House Customer Appreciation Day. First State Bank and the Torrington/Lingle Chapter of Wyoming FFA helped to serve a delicious lunch of burgers, garlic sausage, and technician Ken s famous baked beans. In the afternoon, the Wyoming Hay & Forage Association hosted a seminar in conjunction with the University of Wyoming Extension office. This seminar was about the budgeting, pricing, and break-even numbers involved in haying operations. Many of our brand representatives were there to answer any and all questions!

KNEB Farm & Ranch Expo in Mitchell, NE Brown Company in Torrington attended the KNEB Farm and Ranch Expo February 8th and 9th at the Scottsbluff County Fairgrounds.

This new Massey-Ferguson GC1705 Compact Tractor was a great attraction, and gained a lot of attention from the everyday farmer to the local gardener.

Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days came to a close after two days in early February.

10 KNEB Farm & Ranch Expo in Mitchell, NE Brown Company in Torrington attended the KNEB Farm and Ranch Expo February 8th and 9th at the Scottsbluff County Fairgrounds. Exhibitor spots were sold out, with over 90 vendors in attendance for the two day event. Friday morning a free breakfast was served, and a networking dinner was offered to the vendors that evening. This new Massey-Ferguson GC1705 Compact Tractor was a great attraction, and gained a lot of attention from the everyday farmer to the local gardener. KNEB hosts this great event every year, and we are thankful for our partnership with them and the opportunity to meet our customers in western Nebraska. Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days Fremont County Farm and Ranch Days came to a close after two days in early February. Brown Company in Riverton enjoyed seeing many friends and community vendors during the event! Overall, it was a very informative and enjoyable opportunity; with many different classes offered, our staff was able to attend sessions on topics ranging from Wyoming beef marketing to the owning and maintaining of greenhouse/hoop houses. We hope everyone that attended had a great time and was able to learn something useful. Next year, we look forward to seeing you at the new Farm and Ranch Days.

Customer Spotlight MR Angus Ranch has been a Brown Company customer well, as long as both businesses can remember. MR Angus was started in 1977, the same year Juan and Joni Reyes got married.

Recently, Juan and Joni have been stepping back and passing that knowledge and the business on to Jen and Mick Burr and Jason Reyes.

The family members work numerous center pivots and several small feedlots with a capacity of over 7,000 head. They are a critical part of the Platte County economy.

11 Customer Spotlight MR Angus Ranch has been a Brown Company customer well, as long as both businesses can remember. MR Angus was started in 1977, the same year Juan and Joni Reyes got married. Since then, they have expanded both their business and their family. Juan would like to thank his mentor and business partner, John Milnor. Recently, Juan and Joni have been stepping back and passing that knowledge and the business on to Jen and Mick Burr and Jason Reyes. With a foundation at a ranch in Tie Siding, Wyoming, MR Angus currently operates their ranch in southeastern Wyoming. The family members work numerous center pivots and several small feedlots with a capacity of over 7,000 head. They are a critical part of the Platte County economy. One thing that is lacking in agriculture is loyalty Juan says. That s why he s proud to be a loyal Brown Company customer. It started with a family friendship between Reyes and the Bunkers; a friendship that has withstood generational and business changes. Now, MR Angus Ranch is one of Brown Company s best customers. Mick knows he can call either Brian or Troy and they will do everything in their power to help. The biggest thing that keeps us doing business with Wheatland is that the service is very tough to beat; Brown Company is definitely not always the cheapest when it comes to buying equipment or getting parts, it s the fact that I can go there, and it s taken care of he says. To anyone interested in the agriculture industry, Juan only has one piece of advice: you better love it. It s hard work and it takes up 24/7 of your time, but if you love it, there are some great opportunities out there. The MR Angus Annual Sale will be Monday, February 25 th at 1 pm. They will have around 250 bulls for sale, all structurally correct, that can travel and do well in any environment. Brown Company is proud and thankful to have MR Angus Ranch as a customer!
