The money is in the list The most overlooked and often forgotten thing business owner do is repeatedly and consistently NOT work on building their list. No matter the stage, building a list of your ideal prospects is critical to your success and using the internet to leverage your growth can be one of the most effective methods of building a strong, solid and profitable list. Why is list building so necessary? Because the people on your list are the people you can make offers to and without a big enough list of targeted clients you don t have enough of a market who can potentially buy from you. It s that simple. Now the question is how do you build your list online? Where do you start? What do you do first? The issue is that there are countless methods from Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, FourSquare, Instagram and more. It can make a business owner dizzy just trying to think about where to be and what to do online to attract more clients. In this step-by-step guide you ll learn how where to go and how to start attracting more of your key prospects with just 3 simple strategies. Page 1
3 Strategy #1: Limiting Your Time The biggest mistake I see business owners make online is the amount of time they waste, when what they need to do is go in, work, socialize briefly and then hop out. Social media doesn t require countless hours to work it, it requires a plan. Strategy #2: Online Networking You want to think of the internet and the social media channels you choose to work on as online networking sites. It s not only for promoting your business but for finding strategic partners; alliances and potential influencers who can help you get in front of a much bigger audience. Consider social media as a way to go to an online networking event. You re now going to need to look at using these channels from the perspective of attending a live networking event---except you ll be doing it online! Strategy #3: It s Not Just the Big Social Media Channels-- Don t Overlook the Not So Obvious: Free Membership Programs, Forums and Groups Long before Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN even existed there were Yahoo groups and organized forums based on subjects. Guess what? They still exist! Did you know that these are great places to find others to collaborate with, get clients and promote your business too? You re going to start! Let s Get Started! Over the next thirty days you will take simple steps to start building your business and growing your list online. Not all of the steps appear to be action oriented but they in fact all help you build your business online. Are you ready to start list building? Then let s do this! Page 2
4 DAY 1. Identify Your Why One of the most important aspects of having a successful business is to have a purpose behind why you want it. Now I m going to suggest something that s counter intuitive but your purpose needs to be something other than money. Of course money is important and I d be foolish to suggest that it s not part of your plan but at this stage it s important to identify why you want to grow a business. Identify the reasons why you are growing your business beside money. Write them down and keep them in a place where you can periodically revisit it. You will have moments when you will doubt whether growing a solo business is a good idea however a great way to stay the course is to go back and revisit the reasons why you ve sought this path to begin with. DAY 2. Make Room for List Building One of biggest challenges I find with my clients is that they re not making the time to build their list. They don t see it as important. List building is a constant effort, its basic marketing. It needs to be done every day, every week, every month and every year. You need to plan for it and then build it into your schedule. Look at your schedule right now and for the next month find pockets of time when you can devote your time to marketing. Block them out and commit to doing it. Time is going to be key here. You must remember that building an online presence requires daily action with specific spurts of time blocked out. This is one of the true reasons some people grow their businesses quickly online. They work at it and perfect their online marketing skills by just doing it regularly. DAY 3. Commit to your cause If you were where you aspire to be what do you think you would refuse to put up with? You are likely making excuses for not accomplishing your goals and all that you are setting out to do. What would your business look like if you eliminated all the excuses and replaced them with solutions? It would be nicer, right? Write out 5-10 things in your life or business that are getting in the way of you being able to focus on your own growth and development. What s taking up your thoughts? Your time? Page 3
5 Your energy? Now look at this list and start to chip away at them. It s time to focus on your business growth and not letting distractions get in the way. DAY 4. Focus on Your Who No matter where you are in your business you have to be very focused on your who. Who is it that you serve and what is it that you offer them? Before you begin looking for them you need to be very certain of this. It will make your business growth that much easier when you know who you are looking for and EXACTLY how YOU can help them. Don t overthink this and compare yourself to others that you may think are better or more developed than you. Identify how you can uniquely serve someone else that needs what you have to offer. What can you do for them and help them benefit from what you do. Write this down so you know who you serve and then you can begin looking for them. DAY 5. Who Are You? They really want to know You need to create expert status whether you believe you are right now or not. Why? Because believe it or not marketing online is about Relationship Marketing. People want to know more about who they re buying from before they actually buy. People feel more connected when they feel they know you. Now write it several topics of your life that you feel comfortable sharing with your market. Maybe it s about being a Mother, Father, Sister, and Brother. Maybe it s about where you love to travel, what your favorite sports teams are, or where you love to eat. You ll be using this information and weaving it throughout your marketing. DAY 6. Website or Blog Site for Your Tribe to Land On All businesses, whether they are online or store front, need to have a website for people to land on. If you don t have a website, make sure you get one. It s quite simple to install one using (this is the one you can customize to make unique). I like Wordpress because it allows you to have a blog which is a great visibility tool and money generator if you wish) If you don t have one yet, then you will also need to secure a domain name and also have your site hosted. 6 DAY 7. From FREE to Fee Give a Taste Away When your ideal client comes to your site you want to have a way of collecting their information so that you can further the connection. The best way to do this is by offering them a free gift when they come to your site. There are a variety of ways to offer something of value. Today you want to do your research and find examples of free offers that you would like to model. It s a research only day. Look for those that resonate with you. The stronger your free offer the better chance you ll have of having a lead join your list. One of the best ways to connect with your clients and prospects is to create a newsletter/ezine. DAY 8. Create your FREE Offer and Connect It Today you want to create your free offer and connect it to your ezine service. Follow the instructions on their website or use their contact information if you have difficulty. DAY9. Get Social Today you will identify where your target market hangs out online. Now is the time to create accounts (if you don t have them already) on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Simply go to and and create accounts. DAY 10. Create Social Profiles This is an important action step because you need to develop your online bio. Take time on each of your accounts to create a bio that links your account back to your website and drives your prospects to your free offer. DAY 11. Get a Gravatar One way to build your online presence is to comment on blogs. This will drive potential customers to your website if you have a Gravatar set up. A gravatar is an image that follows you from site to site which appears next to your name when you comment or post on a blog. They help you identify your posts on blogs and forums on the web. Start Networking Online-Which Can Leads to Joint Ventures Now you want to approach social media with a strategy to start finding people who can 1) Help you reach more people 2) For you to collaborate with. Be on the look out for people who can help you and you can do the favor in return. Open conversations. Talk about what you do and who you can help. Introduce yourself more and mostly don t be afraid to reach out to people who may be influential in your field. You never know where it can lead. This is now the time you ll want to start researching groups you can join in Yahoo, LinkedIN and Facebook. Which Twitter parties you can join. Commit to Appearing on Social Media Daily to Build Your List To continue to grow your business and income, it s essential you have some sort of presence on social media daily. This doesn t mean you need to be there for hours at a time; it means you need to interact, engage and provide value daily. If you can t appear there all the time, then you want to use a tool like to help you schedule your social media appearances. DAY 14. Find Out What s Been Working and Repeat It Identify any and all ways you are currently making traction online. Page 6
8 The Next 30 Days and Beyond Your Daily Marketing Marketing your business requires continuous effort. Many people assume they don t need to market their business because they aren t an online marketer. I beg to differ and want you to realize that you must take some sort of daily action to grow your business. It can be minor or grand but you need to challenge yourself, your comfort level and continue to do it! In this report I ve covered the 3 overarching Strategies to Build Your List Online.
