To achieve this goal, the Society relies on the active participation of its members, who represent a diverse cross-section of professional sub specialties. 4 Annual Meeting & Luncheon Speaker Navigating a Life in Journalism: A Woman s Perspective About Judy Wodruff Broadcast journalist Judy Woodruff is the anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour. She has covered politics and other news for more than four decades at NBC, CNN and PBS. At PBS from 1983 to 1993, she was the chief Washington correspondent for the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour. From , she also anchored PBS award-winning documentary series, Frontline with Judy Woodruff. Moving to CNN in 1993, she served as anchor and senior correspondent for 12 years; among other duties, she anchored the weekday program Inside Politics. She returned to the NewsHour in 2007, and in 2013, she and the late Gwen Ifill were named the first two women to co-anchor a national news broadcast. After Ifill s death, Woodruff was named sole anchor. In 2011, Judy was the anchor and reporter for the PBS documentary Nancy Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime. And in 2007, she completed an extensive project on the views of young Americans, titled Generation Next: Speak Up. Be Heard. Two hour-long documentaries aired on PBS, along with a series of reports on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, NPR, in USA Today and on Yahoo News. From , Judy anchored a monthly program for Bloomberg Television, Conversations with Judy Woodruff. In 2006, she was a visiting professor at Duke University s Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy. In 2005, she was a visiting fellow at Harvard University s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy. At NBC News, Woodruff was White House correspondent from 1977 to For one year after that she served as NBC s Today Show chief Washington correspondent. She wrote the book, This is Judy Woodruff at the White House, published in 1982 by Addison-Wesley. Her reporting career began in Atlanta, Georgia, where she covered state and local government. Woodruff is a founding co-chair of the International Women s Media Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging women in journalism and communication industries worldwide. She serves on the boards of trustee of the Freedom Forum, The Duke Endowment and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and is a director of Public Radio International and the National Association to End Homelessness. She is a former member of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics, a former director of the National Museum of American History and a former trustee of the Urban Institute. Judy is a graduate of Duke University, where she is a trustee emerita. She is the recent recipient of the Radcliffe Medal, the Poynter Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism, the Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism from Arizona State University. She received the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award in Television from Washington State University, the Gaylord Prize for Excellence in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Oklahoma and the Al Neuharth Award for Women Empowering Women PAGE 4

She was inducted into the Georgia Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame and received the Leonard Zeidenberg First Amendment Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association and the Duke Distinguished Alumni Award, among others. She is the recipient of more than 25 honorary degrees. Judy lives in Washington, DC, with her husband, journalist Al Hunt, and they are the parents of three children: Jeffrey, Benjamin and Lauren. The Following Awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting & Luncheon Legacy Award The Legacy Award is presented annually to an individual who has been an advocate of the WDS and a leader to the society and to the field of dermatology. This individual is honored at the Legacy Celebration held each year during the AAD Annual Meeting. The proceeds from the celebration are donated to the Legacy Fund, which was established to ensure the long-term financial stability of the WDS. Rose Hirschler Award The Rose Hirschler Award is named in honor of Dr. Rose Hirschler, one of the first known female dermatologist in the United States. The award is presented annually by the WDS to a physician chosen for their significant contributions to medicine and dermatology and who, by their achievement, have served to enhance the role of women in the dermatologic specialty. Walter B. Shelley, MD Leadership Award The Walter B. Shelley, MD Leadership Award is presented periodically to a man who has made a significant contribution toward supporting women in dermatology. Mentor of the Year The Mentor of the Year is given to an outstanding individual who has influenced the lives of women dermatologist through mentoring. Volunteer of the Year Award Volunteer of the Year Award was established to recognize a WDS member who has made and outstanding contribution through community service. President s Award The President s Award is given at the discretion of the President of the WDS to an individual, or individuals, of her choosing. The awardee is an individual, or individuals, who supported the President in an extraordinary way during her term to help make the society a better organization. Women Empowering Women PAGE 5

7 Annual Meeting & Luncheon Deadline for Registration: Online registration will close on Friday, February 22, After that date, registration may be completed on-site at the WDS Center on Friday and Saturday or at the Registration Desk prior to the Annual Meeting & Luncheon (outside the Marquis Ballroom) on Sunday morning. Ticket Pick Up: Printed tickets are required at the door. Ticket will be sent via on Friday, February 1, 2019 and each Friday until February 22. If you need to have your ticket printed onsite you can pick them up at the following times: Friday, March 1, :00am-5:00pm WDS Center Saturday, March 2, :00am-5:00pm WDS Center Sunday, March 3, :00am-12:00pm outside the Marquis Ballroom Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be made in writing to the WDS Office by Friday, February 22, 2019 for a full refund (minus a $25.00 administrative fee). No refunds will be issued after February 22, Complementary Resident Tickets: There are a limited number of complementary tickets are available for current WDS Resident Members for the Annual Meeting & Luncheon on a first come first serve basis. Use the registration link to register and claim your ticket. Once a complementary ticket is claimed, the registrant will have until Friday, February 22, 2019 cancel if they are unable to attend. Cancellation should be done in writing to wds@womensderm.org. If a complementary ticket recipient does not cancel, and does not show up for the event the recipient will lose all privileges to claim complementary tickets for future WDS events.
