SCHLAFF Senior Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer at National Grid Mr. Schlaff is Senior Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer at National Grid and is also an officer in other National Grid USA affiliated companies. Mr. Schlaff joined National Grid in Prior to joining National Grid, Schlaff served as the first global chief procurement officer at Owens-Illinois, an $8b packaging company. There, he transformed procurement and supply chain from a collection of locally-based, tactical operations into a single global strategic organization. These improvements delivered some $300 million in earnings before taxes and improved the firm s cash flow by an additional $300 million. Prior to his time with Owens-Illinois, Schlaff spent three year at Nalco Company, a $3b water treatment and processing chemicals manufacturer. There he served as Managing Director with responsibility for Europe, Middle East and Africa, a $700 million business with 3,000 employees spanning 11 manufacturing sites. Earlier in his career Schlaff worked for four years at GE Plastics as the director of global sourcing and for seventeen years at DuPont in a variety of roles, including assignments in The Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. Schlaff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Arizona State, where he graduated summa cum laude in He is a former member of the Board of Directors of General Chemical Corporation in East Hanover, N.J. Schlaff is also a member of and former president and board member of the Northeastern Chemical Association.
