2 July is Rotary Fellowships month Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Google Rotary Fellowships for a full list of active Fellowships UPCOMING ACTIVITY : Trivia Night, 13 August coordinator Greg Byers Don t forget the Trivia Night our premium fundraiser of the year. Book your table now! Magpies lost by 40 points to the Kangaroos this week. That s it I reckon for Come on 2017.
3 FROM OUR PRESIDENT, COMMITTEE CHAIRS and ROTARIANS President Ruth Byers opened our meeting inviting David Freeman to deliver the invocation. Jane Challis provided the toast, including toasting the Rotary Club of Suva in Fiji [details of the Club can be found in this month s Rotary Downunder]. Opening proceedings President Ruth thanked Sharon Anderson Warne for putting tonight s activities together with the assistance of Dimitra Giannopoulos. Reports were called for. Treasurer Dimitra Giannopoulos advised that our spinning wheel jackpot has grown to $ which somehow included a $10 New Zealand banknote. Dimitra also reminded those concerned that annual fees were now overdue and requested that they be paid as soon as possible. Service Projects Chair Tony Lee reported on today s successful Lunch on the River with 44 people attending. Paulette Andrews also attended today for the first time and she commended Tony for the work he is doing and asked others to support the Lunch on the River and mentioned what a great contribution it is to our elderly folks giving them fun and laughter. Marlene Campbell, reported that Alison Hall s mother is in the Northern Hospital with a broken hip. Also, Bob Collins has been moved to the Northern Hospital and he has had visitors and they have reported that he is in good spirits but would love more visitors. International Chair Sue Goette, thanked John Keefe, Dim G & Liz Derricks for attending the Rotary Friendship Exchange information meeting over the weekend and asked John Keefe to report on it. John spoke about what the Rotary Friendship Exchange is and possibility of our club being involved. Seymour would be a good host area because of its proximity to Melbourne and the ease of taking overseas visitors to the World s most livable city. On behalf of Bulletin editor Mark Dossor, Ralph Baker asked the Bulletin question of the week What is the avenue of service highlighted in this week s Bulletin? Of course it was International Liz Derricks knew it and was awarded a free ticket in tonight s lucky wheel spin. THE RETURN OF THE 3 MINUTE SPEAKER Our 3 minute speaker was John Keefe who spoke about Seymour Structure Plan and invited people in and around Seymour to get involved. He was worried about some of the directions that the Committee was taking. It seemed to have a dominant green theme. They seemed to be fixated on pedestrian and bicycle track plans. He felt that these areas were of little significance to Seymour. The Committee needed to hear what the residents of Seymour really needed. He also felt that the rezoning issue needed closer study. This was followed by handing out the Stage 2 Consultation findings Leaflet. [It is noted that John finished spot on the 3 minutes. Well done John! ]
4 With Shazza A night of fun and laughter was had by all with each table set up with 4 chairs and a game to play. With a 15 minute time limit at each table each table winner went Into the Grand Final game of Kerplunk. Our top five winners were [5] Marlene Campbell [4] Taylan Atar [3] Alison Hall [2] Martin Raby and [1] Fred Sartori. All place getters received a miniature cup with the outright winner Fred Sartori receiving the winner s cup. Catriona, Mariam and Ralph Tony, Ian and Marlene David, Fred, Greg and Alan Dim, Sharon, Kevin and Grace Liz, Paulette and Julie. Taylan, John, Don and Ruth Thanks Sharon for a great night!
5 Our seductive Sergeant was at it again seducing dollars from pockets of unsuspecting Rotarians. Tony Lee was got after an old lady in Nagambie sang Tony s praises. John Keefe was hit for having voted against the 3 minute speaker and then being the first to actually deliver a 3 minute speech. Liz Derricks was stung for asking him if there were any tall handsome single men at his Birthday Party. Finally Sharon was bitten for not letting Dim win a game while they prepared for tonight s fun night as they tried out every game they were presenting. Lessons in Rotary We often hear about the Rotary 5 Avenues of Service but do we know what they are? We channel our commitment to service at home and abroad through five Avenues of Service, which are the foundation of club activity. This week we focus on YOUTH SERVICE. YOUTH SERVICE recognises the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as Rotaract, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership awards, and Rotary Youth Exchange. ROTARY SEYMOUR WEEKLY LUCKY WHEEL Our weekly lucky spinning wheel draw has jackpotted to $ with other various great prizes available. Our lucky ticket spin went this week to Greg Byers but unfortunately he missed the pot by 0ne spot [ poor Greg ] and the pot continues to grow. What is the secret Bulletin question this week? You could win a free ticket in our weekly spinning wheel spin. For your enjoyment, this weeks lexophilia : [ yep, I still enjoy them and I m still the Bulletin editor ] When you ve seen one shopping centre, you ve seen a mall.
