The invocation was given by Dennis Beggs and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Guests: Walter Loos was a guest of Milly Babcock. Today s program: Jay Winzenz Jay Winzenz came in to talk to Rotary about the City of Janesville s Budget Scorecard. The purpose of the scorecard is to seek your advice on the level of service. It is not a referendum on specific services, service levels or projects. Funding for programs and services is largely based on available property tax revenue. Your voice is especially important this year since economic conditions have made it more difficult for residents to absorb tax increases. Therefore, fewer dollars may be available to support existing services and programs. You can help make these spending decisions by telling us what kind of service you want in twelve core services. You can choose one of four levels of service for each category. There was $28 in the raffle. Brad Yarmark won the raffle. The jackpot grows to $456. Service Level 1 = Reduction in property taxes and service levels. Service Level 2 = No increase in property taxes, slight reduction in service levels Service Level 3 = Slight increase in property taxes, no change in service levels Service Level 4 = Increase in property taxes, enhanced service levels The largest revenue comes from your property tax. Dave Mansur-December 6th is Rotary Fest, formerly known as Share Fest. Also, Monday, August 19th, at 5:00 Joy Ngobi will appear on Channel 15 discussing the Hope Institute of Uganda. We will need lots of volunteers to cook and purchase groceries. Kurt Saterbak-The Corn Roast is coming up on August 21st. There is a green sheet that will be handed out every week. Please list the top three areas you d like to work, and please sign up for at least two shifts. Also, there is a Chairperson meeting next Monday. Those having turned in at least $175 for the corn roast were called to stand up. She was born in Janesville and graduated from Evansville High School. She met her husband while in college. Kathy has hosted 14 exchange students and will get her 15th student in August from Afghanistan. She remains very involved in youth exchange. Kathy was a member of another Rotary group previously, and eventually became president of the club. At one time, Kathy lived in the Republic of Georgia, in Russia. However, she eventually came back to the United States. Kathy is a Stage 3 Breast Cancer Survivor. Red Badge Talk-Tom McDonald Tom is an attorney at McDonald and Gustafson Law Offices. They mainly deal with Personal Injury cases as well as Wills and Estates. Tom was an All American Track and Field runner at UW Whitewater. Just recently, he ran in a local triathalon as a team with his fiancé. He did the swimming, while she did the biking and running. Tom had the opportunity to study abroad in Ireland and Scotland, as well as in Australia. Tom s goal is to give back to the club and the community.
