2 Invitation In recent years, the Wirtschaftstag has become one of the largest and most influential economic conferences in Germany and an important meeting place for international business and European politics to shape the business agenda for the coming years. The Presidium and Board have chosen the following keynote theme for the 2014 Economic Conference: Germany and Europe in Transition: Putting Europe on a path to sustainable growth As in past years, Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel will hold a keynote speech at the opening session. This year, we are very pleased to welcome the Taoiseach of Ireland, Mr. Enda Kenny, as one of our special guests. With his courageous economic reforms, Mr Kenny led Ireland out of the crisis. Further contributors of the opening session will be Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board, Volkswagen AG, Günther Oettinger, EU Commissioner for Energy, Christian Lindner MdL, Federal Chairman of the FDP, Peter Terium, Chairman of the Executive Board, RWE AG, and Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Executive Board, BASF SE. Besides the EU Commissioner of Trade, Karel De Gucht, the Head of the Federal Chancellery, Peter Altmaier MdB, the Federal Ministers Alexander Dobrindt MdB and Hermann Gröhe MdB, our top-class panel discussions will bring together high level politicians, business executives and representatives of major associations. We are delighted to welcome the key players for European finance and monetary policy at the evening session of the Wirtschaftstag. In keeping with the motto Putting Europe on a path to sustainable growth, Dr. Jens Weidmann, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, will open this session. Followed by a keynote speech about the future of the Euro from the President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi. Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble MdB, Federal Minister of Finance will hold the closing keynote speech.
