Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival Announces 2013 Artist Lineup Contact: Mary Burdette, Assistant Director Phone: For immediate release: April 2, 2013 Oak Hill, NY Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival the award-winning, four-day, multistage music festival in New York s Catskill Mountains announces its most exciting and eclectic lineup to date. A veritable Who s Who of Bluegrass Music in Oak Hill, NY, Grey Fox continues to stretch the musical envelope bringing a dazzling mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass, old-time, jazz-grass, jam-grass, gypsy-jazz, Celtic, Cajun,

2 zydeco, Americana and more to thousands of music fans who come from thirty-some states and over a dozen countries each year. This year s dates are Thursday, July 18 through Sunday July 21, Music officially kicks off Thursday at 3:00 p.m., but plenty of picking will be heard around the grounds beginning Wednesday, July 17 when camping gates open. The Infamous Stringdusters will appear Friday, July 19 at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in Oak Hill, NY. Keller Williams (center) will hit the stage with the Travelin McCourys on Thursday, July 18.

The Grey Fox 2013 lineup boasts internationally recognized artists such as: John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation s 2012 Fellowship Grant recipient Chris Thile; two winners of the Steve Martin Prize for

4 Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass Award: Noam Pikelny and Sammy Shelor; and National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellow, Del McCoury. Several Grammy award winners and nominees will be in the house, such as Tim O Brien, Jerry Douglas, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Special Consensus, The SteelDrivers, Cedric Watson and others; plus IBMA award winners including current IBMA Entertainers of the Year, The Gibson Brothers; 5x Bluegrass Bassist of the Year, Mike Bub, 6x Guitarist of the Year, Bryan Sutton, 8x Mandolinist of the Year, Ronnie McCoury; and 2012 IBMA Momentum Award winners, Monroeville. Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, itself, was awarded the prestigious title of Bluegrass Event of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in Mary Tyler Doub, producer of the

5 festival since 1985, has always sought to create and foster a family-like community in which all generations (from toddlers to octogenarians) and all participants (from ticket buyers to performers) feel welcome, cared for, involved, energized and exhilarated. Long before most industry leaders saw the need to expand the bluegrass audience, Doub was already doing so by reaching out to younger fans, presenting different musical styles and generally pushing the genre s boundaries. About Grey Fox, Doub says, I know we re doing the right thing when long-time attendees are as passionate as ever about everything while we re connecting with new fans who love live music and our family-friendly vibe. Dozens of eager students, aged 8-17, participate in the four-day Grey Fox Bluegrass Academy for Kids held during the festival. Grey Fox has always had a big educational component. Learning opportunities range from the very popular Bluegrass Academy for Kids (for kids 8 years old and up) to directed slow jams and hands-on workshops for adults. Grey Fox also presents scholarships to college-bound students each year, many entering bluegrass and new acoustic music programs at schools such as Berklee, Belmont, South Plains, etc. Renowned for its outstanding organization and gracious hospitality, Grey Fox has become an annual must-do destination for bluegrass and acoustic music fans from all

Rounding out the Grey Fox experience for festivarians are showcases featuring the finest up-and-coming bands from around the country; late-night dancing; family fun; and on-site camping. On the midway can be found fresh, festive foods (acknowledged by Gourmet Magazine for its good eats) and a colorful marketplace featuring handmade crafts, imported goods, clothing and custom-made stringed instruments. Around the grounds at any time of day, first-rate picking sessions erupt, old and new friends share great times, and everyone celebrates summertime in upstate New York.
