4 Name: PERSONAL PARAGRAPH Submission #1 (Title of Book) This is an assignment that requires you to connect personally with the text you have chosen to read. You should complete this assignment after finishing Chapter 1 of your book. Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Find a line from Chapter 1 that reminds you of something in your own past. This is one time when you can completely ignore the context of the line. Your take on the line doesn t have to have anything to do with the literal meaning of the line. Using specifics from your memory, write the experience in a well-crafted paragraph that is no more than one page double spaced. Other students will not read this. Your paragraph must include your line somewhere; where you decide is up to you. Revise your work. Offer as much detail as possible. Example: Personal Paragraph Taming of the Shrew This liberty is all that I request (37 ln 94) Earlier this year I was having a lot of trouble because I thought my parents were being too overbearing. So, I wrote this really long to my sister about how I wanted to move out and live with another sister of mine in her apartment. I couldn t stand the thought of being with my parents any longer and I felt like I was trapped. My sister wrote back and told me how worried my parents were about me and that I shouldn t complain so much because I was lucky to have them care so much about me. Then, a couple of weeks later, a friend of mine told me that I really needed to start thinking about why my parents were so worried about me and what I could do to change that. So, I figured out a way to fix my troubles and my parents weren t worried any longer. The freedom from my parents is what I really wanted and it took me a while to figure out that it was my fault and that they were spending so much time worrying about me and if I wanted that to change I would have to change some things about myself.

Or... 5 Fortunately / Unfortunately Statements * This activity is another form of text reformulation which prompts you to summarize the material you have read and re-word it in a structured way. For example, Fortunately, Artie is writing a book. Unfortunately, his father gets angry while telling him the story. Choose One!
