They have a client that would like to put his relative's cremated remains in a headstone/monument as opposed to burying in the plot. The family would like to know if this can be done in the Markdale cemetery. The family (if they haven't already done so) would have to buy the plot, of course. There is nothing in our by-laws that says this can't be done. However, we have no precedent for this type of request. May's says this is something that is becoming quite popular and that all other cemeteries are allowing this with the provision that the monument follows the by-law on size of monuments/headstones allowed. fyi - the remains are sealed in the monument. May's would like to know if they can give the go-ahead to the family. I advised that this may be an issue that will have to go to the cemetery board in order for staff to know how to handle this type of request in the future. If this is okay'd, the family will not be able to do this until the fall, when the fall foundation pourings are completed (May's are not aware of this point yet.) Please advise if this request goes to cemetery board - if so, it will be put in the board file for the agenda. 26 1.0 INTRODUCTION Global GPR Services Inc., provided Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) services to investigate the burial plots at the Maxwell Cemetery located in Maxwell Ontario. Performed Tuesday April 29, 2008, the services employed the use of ground penetrating radar (GPR) in the examination of two areas defined by the Municipality of Grey Highlands. The areas were approximately 30 ft X 18 ft. GPR was used to determine the location of burial plots within the defined areas. 2.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Changes in amplitude response of the radar signal are reflected by varying colors on the attached images. A great response typically means an anomaly (burial plot, pipe, conduit, underground tank, void, vault, etc.). As reflected in the images, the darker areas are perceived as being free of anomalies, while the areas of higher response (white, green, yellow, red, etc.) are areas where variations lie. The raw data has been interpreted and an interpreted map has been included for each area. Figure 1 The arc shaped anomaly represents a burial plot. 3.0 DATA ACQUISITION The survey area was specified by the Municipality of Grey Highlands, with Global GPR performing both above ground survey grid control and GPR scanning fieldwork. The specified area to be scanned is identified in the attached drawings. Scans were surveyed as bi-directional grids from which the attached images were developed. GPR data scans were collected at a traverse spacing of 2 feet along the Y lines and 2 feet along the X lines (two perpendicular directions). The survey was scanned to a depth of 9feet. 27 The GPR survey was performed using a Sensors and Software Noggin digital ground penetrating radar system. An antenna with center frequencies of 250 MHz was used at the site. GPR data scans were displayed on a digital monitor and simultaneously recorded on the system s flash ROM. Data scans were downloaded to a desktop computer at the Global GPR offices, and subsequently processed and analyzed using Sensors and Software s Echo Mapper and Echo View software. 4.0 DATA PROCESSING Conditions and data gathered were typical for scanning in the surveyed area which provided excellent results. High- and low- pass filters, horizontal smoothing, background removal, and gain adjustments were performed as processing steps. 5.0 LIMITATIONS OF THE METHOD GPR is an interpretive method, based on the identification of reflection patterns that may not uniquely identify a subsurface target. The GPR antenna produces a cone-shaped signal pattern that emanates approximately 45 degrees from horizontal fore and aft of the antenna. Therefore, embedded or buried objects may be detected before the antenna is located directly over them, and GPR anomalies may appear larger than actual target dimensions. 6.0 REPORT DATA Immediately following are the report sheets for Maxwell Cemetery.
