1 From Portraiture to Caricature Evidence Collec,on I Visual Art 6

2 Evidence Descrip5on Objec5ves(s): I can o Understand and apply my knowledge of facial propor,on to produce a self-portrait. o Use the technique of shading to apply value. o Compare the propor,on of my facial features to create a self-caricature set in my favorite place. o Select and apply media appropriately. 3 Emerging Student Point A Ra5onale: Although the spacing of the eyes is sa,sfactory, they are asymmetrical and placed in the forehead region. The eyebrows are also drawn too closely to the eyes, and the direc,on of the eyelashes needs to be adjusted. The nose is drawn in an unrealis,c manner, and the size of the neck is too small in comparison with the head.

4 Emerging Student Point B Ra5onale: Improvement has been shown with the placement and symmetry of the eyes, and representa,on of the eyes and nose. However, the placement of the mouth has been lowered, producing too much space beneath the nose. The width of the neck has also been improved. The use of value is subtle, yet apparent.

5 Emerging Student WriDen Response #1 The self-portrait assignment taught me that the eyes are in the middle of the face, your lips should be closer to your nose then your mouth, and your eyes are lined up with your ears. I learned that some propor;ons of my face are that my lips are a li<le bigger than some peoples, my mouth is closer to my nose then my chin, and my eyes are a li<le closer together.

6 Emerging Student Point C Ra5onale: The student created a caricature by choosing to exaggerate the distance between her eyes and the size of her mouth. Although symmetrical balance remains an issue, she has con,nued to improve the representa,on of her nose and eyes. Media was more carefully chosen and applied to the student s caricature, than to her background.

7 Emerging Student WriDen Response #2 The feature I exaggerated was my lips because my lips are bigger then useule well that s what I think. The statement I am making with my backround witch is paris is that I love beu;ful standing things and that some day I would love to go and visit paris.

9 Proficient Student Point A Ra5onale: Some understanding of placement of facial features is shown. However, the features are drawn in more of a cartoonish, than realis,c manner. The placement of the nose should be lower, and the size of the eyes decreased. The neck is also too narrow.

10 Proficient Student Point B Ra5onale: Improvement is shown in the realis,c representa,on of all facial features. Issues with symmetry, placement of the nose and spacing from the mouth to chin are s,ll apparent. The use of value helps to further define the student s appearance.

11 Proficient Student WriDen Response #1 The self portrait assignment taught me where eyes are in rela;on to the nose and other placement like that. I learned that one eye is bigger than the other.

12 Proficient Student Point C Ra5onale: The student created a caricature by choosing to exaggerate the distance between her eyes and the thickness of her eyebrows. The size of her head, though enlarged, was not drawn to caricature specifica,ons. Media was selected and applied fairly well, overall.

13 Proficient Student WriDen Response #2 I exaggerated my eyes at the top because they kind of arch up. Also I exaggerated my lips and made them even smaller because my lips are small. The statement I am making is that I love to go fun places That is why I chose the beach because it is a fun place.

15 Advanced Student Point A Ra5onale: Although the drawing is somewhat cartoonish, it demonstrates an understanding of facial propor,on and representa,on. The eyes should be slightly lowered, and the nose less elongated. The propor,onal space between the nose, mouth, and chin also needs adjustment.

16 Advanced Student Point B Ra5onale: The facial features are all drawn more realis,cally and propor,onal, even though the eyes s,ll appear enlarged. Value is used subtly to help define the student s features.

17 Advanced Student WriDen Response #1 I learned that my eyes are actually smaller than I thought they were. I also learned that I have a very round face. What I learned about the propor;ons of my face is that my lips get very long when I smile, and my nose isn t as wide as I thought.

18 Advanced Student Point C Ra5onale: The student created a caricature by choosing to exaggerate the thickness of her eyebrows, spacing between the eyes, elonga,on of the nose, and widening of the mouth. Media was selected and applied fairly well, overall. However, the applica,on of chalk pastel should have been extended to the lines.

19 Advanced Student WriDen Response #2 I chose to exaggerate my lips, nose, and eyebrows. I chose them because when I looked at myself in the mirror, those features are what stood out to me. The statement that I m making about myself is that I like calm and relaxing places like a library. I m just saying that I m someone who favors relaxa;on.
