4 1 Introduction This standard implements the harmonised UK Power Networks civil design standards including all relevant drawings, codes of practice, specifications, bar bending schedules and electrical plant/equipment associated with 132/33kV and 33/11kV substations; 132/11kV substations can use a combination of the two sets of details. These standards are applicable to all network areas (EPN, LPN and SPN) and supersede existing civil design standards. The implementation of these standards will provide the following benefits: A consistent approach to design especially with external designers (consultancies, strategic alliance contractors), project managers, and commissioning engineers. A consistent approach to third parties (e.g. developers requesting details of our requirements) Grid Substation relates to 132/33kV and 132/11kV and all intermediate voltages. Primary Substation relates to 33/11kV and 6.6kV and all intermediate voltages. 2 Scope This standard covers harmonised civil design standards for proposed Grid and Primary substations to be built within the three UK Power Networks areas. These civil design standards offer guidance with detailed drawings and the relevant documents for construction purposes to Design Engineers, Wayleaves, Commercial Property Developers, Third Party Consultants and Design and Build Contractors regarding UK Power Networks requirements. Where necessary they can also be used by developers as a basis for site-specific drawings and re-submitted for UK Power Networks approval. 3 Details A list of the available civil design drawings can be found in EDS Substation Design Drawing List xls. The schemes use a standard drawing number format, e.g. EDS , where the first part of the number indicates that the drawing is linked to this standard and the second part is a unique reference number that is linked to the substation type i.e. EDS range is the range used for Grid substations, EDS range is for Primary substations and EDS range is used for general non-voltage specific site details. Adobe.pdf and Microstation.dgn (read only) copies of the standard schemes and associated documentation are available from the current UK Power Networks document management system and the customer facing G81 internet site (pdf only). All drawings are grouped within related suites with a single drawing number and a specific sheet number; opening up one drawing file will allow access to all drawings associated with that structure. For example opening EDS will allow access to 10 drawings associated with the standard 11kV Switchouse from general architectural views to reinforcement layout drawings. The master copies of the scheme standard drawings will be updated as necessary and new versions posted onto the document management system and the externally accessible G81 website portal. 5 4 Actions Required Inform all staff associated with civil, structural and electrical designs, planning engineers, third party consultants and design and build contractors working for UK Power Networks, of the civil engineering and building specifications related to Grid and Primary substations. 4.1 Downloading drawings First ascertain which format is required by the designer/third party: DGN Bentley MicroStation V8 design file; PDF Adobe Acrobat (non-editable) image file For external use only pdf versions of the files are to be sent. Position the cursor over the appropriate file, right click and select Save Target As to save the file to a familiar directory from which you can attach it to an . 5 Standard Civil Designs for new Grid and Primary Substations (Applicable to EPN, LPN and SPN Networks) 5.1 Substation Standard Designs List of Documents Design Guide outlining the principal requirements to be incorporated within a civil design of a substation for UK Power Networks in all regions. Building Services Specification within the Design Guide specifies the general electrical requirement for the building services installation. The extent of the works comprises of the supply, delivery, handling, installation, testing and commissioning of all equipment associated with substation buildings. Specification provides details of building materials limitation of use for construction purposes. Bar Bending Schedules provide details of re-bars for reinforced concrete structures. 6 Review of Design Standards Revisions to the harmonised civil design schemes referred to in this document may be instigated by the following events: Scheme errors or deficiencies identified through the design or construction process. Periodic review of the schemes to ensure they continue to meet the network requirements. The mechanism for proposing changes shall be through discussion and agreement with the Asset Management Civil Standards team Independent of any proposed revisions, the Civil Standards team shall review the harmonised schemes periodically and re-issue modified schemes as appropriate.
