1 Op Art Pinwheel Side 1 Choices 1. 1) Draw an X from corner to corner. Then draw a vertical line and horizontal line that match up in the center. 2) draw curved lines, spaced about 1/2" apart, between the triangles formed by the lines previously drawn; in one triangle, the curves bend in toward the center; in the next triangle, the curves bend toward the edge of the paper. Alternate inward and outward in each section, until the lines go off the page. 3) Select 2 colored markers. With the first marker, color in every other small triangle in the center of the page, created by the first set of curved lines. After these are colored in, color every other space in each of those triangles. 4) With the other marker, color in the opposite spaces in the opposing triangles.

2 2. 1. Draw a border in pencil all the way around the edge of the paper. 2. Draw concentric circles out from the middle to the border lines. You do not have to start exactly in the middle you can start to one side - and they don't have to be perfect. 3. Draw a vertical line through the center circle. 4. Add more vertical lines across the whole image - varying the thickness (make some closer together and some wider apart). 5. Grab a sharpie and start coloring in - carefully. Start in the middle...then work your way up and down... then outwards. 6. Erase pencil marks.

Draw a diagonal line through each small section, making 2 triangles. 4. Get a sharpie and start coloring in every other triangle carefully. Start in the middle, then work your way around and outwards. 6. Erase pencil marks.

4 Op Art Pinwheel Side 2 1. Draw 9+ vertical waves. 2. Draw a wave across. 3. Draw upward curves above the middle wave. Draw downward curves below the middle wave. Every next curve starts at a previous line. Alter the distance between the curves. 4. Complete the entire section. 5. Complete the entire design. 6. Color each section gradating color from dark to light to dark. 7. Use a neighbor color and apply same gradation pattern. 8. Add another analogous (neighbor) color or repeat the first one. Keep coloring! 9. Use different colors for the next section.

5 Pinwheel Instructions: Step 1: Cut stiff paper into 12" squares. Each student will get a square. Step 2: Using rulers, draw a light "X" from corner to corner with a pencil. (See image below) Step 3: Make a dot in the center of the "x" with a Sharpie Fine Point Marker and then using a ruler, draw over the pencil lines you just made from each corner toward the center. Only go 2/3 of the way to the center. (See image below) Step 4: Color, paint, or sketch your design on both sides of the paper. It is the student's choice if they put different designs on each side of the paper. Step 5: When the design is completed and dried (if applicable), use scissors to cut along the marker lines you made 2/3 of the way in from the corners. Step 6: Stick a straight pin through a bead. Using the beaded pin, poke every other tip of the designed square and then through the dot in the center. (See image below) Step 7: Once every other tip is stuck in the middle of the square, stick the pin and pinwheel into a straw or dowel.
