3 Science Alive CADL is a proud supporter of the STEM movement, with resources and events that engage and educate kids in the field of science. We re excited to host our friends from Impression 5 Science Center for a workshop called Amazing Science Superhero Edition. Kids can try shocking hands-on experiments that show how characters like Thor and Hulk are related to electromagnetic waves and static electricity. The workshop will be held at most CADL branches this fall and is open to kids of all ages. Also heading our way are some exciting workshops presented by staff from Michigan Science Center in Detroit. Kids ages 6-12 can build their own plane and send it down a wind tube, create a small robot, or explore circuits and electrical components. Seating is on a first-come basis. Wish Upon a Star CADL cardholders have always been able to experience the magical world of Disney, by checking out VHS or DVD movies from one of our 13 branches. Now we re offering a more convenient way for you and your family to enjoy Mickey and all his friends. Hoopla, our digital movie service, has just added popular Disney movies to their collection. That means you can watch titles like The Muppet Movie, Recess: School s Out, A Goofy Movie, and The Sword in the Stone on any computer or mobile device. There is no hold list or waiting time with hoopla, since this content can be enjoyed by multiple patrons at the same time. 6 Maker Workshops The library is a great place to connect with other makers. This fall we re hosting experts like Certified Zentangle Teacher Jane Reiter, who will lead introductory workshops on the art of Zentangle. This peaceful and meditative drawing technique uses repetitive strokes to form unplanned patterns. The results are always beautiful! 90-Second Newberry Film Festival The 90-Second Newbery is an annual video contest for young filmmakers, challenging them to create a movie that compresses the story of a Newbery Award-winning book into 90 seconds or less.
