1 C A L C O N Calgary Games Convention March 2729, 2009 Radisson Hotel Calgary Airport th Avenue NE PRESENTED BY The Sentry Box & Maple Leaf Games (Preregistration available starting July 15, 2008) That s right gamers, hang on to your dice bag, we re in for some fun! Its official, our beloved games convention is returning from the void to bring all the excitement and insanity that you can handle, and then some. Though we ve been on hiatus for awhile now, we ve ensured not to spend our weekends playing with marbles (we don t have enough of them to go around anyway). We're now in the process of organizing this venerable staple of the Calgary gamer community to continue on into the future. We're scheduled to run March at the Radisson Hotel Calgary Airport where we ve reserved over 15,000 square feet of convention space for every game you could want to play. As you may have noticed, this year s Premier Sponsors; The Sentry Box and Maple Leaf Games are behind us and beating us with sticks pushing us hard to give you the best experience. We ve also gained support from many other retailers including our Contributing Sponsors; Legends Games & s, Myth Games, and Tramps Music & Games. Many more can be expected to help us to help you have a great time by sponsoring the convention. Our website ( is online thanks to one of our Promotional Sponsors; Nucleus Information System, and under construction for the next month while we work on getting the most diverse selection of games to compete in, play with, and have a fun time at. The convention hosts games in many categories including; & games, Family & games, RolePlaying & Live Action games, and Computer & Console games. Our games all have prizes of various sizes donated from our sponsors, as well as being made possible by our registration (weekend passes $30 until Oct 1 st, 2008). In addition there are related events and panels throughout the weekend. Over the years we ve lost touch with many of our volunteers, all the way back to the mid80 s. Some we ve been able to connect with fairly easily, others are harder to find and many have moved too far off places. We d be pleased if any of the past volunteers whom we very much appreciate, as well as all the potential new volunteers that will also get showered by our love and trinkets, that are interested in helping with organizing, volunteering, and running games and events, let us know. So just what can you expect to see you re wondering well to start with, we re working with games publishers to bring you the best in competitive play in a variety of games like Magic: The Gathering with over a $1000 in prizes just for the Saturday tournament (and we re trying to make that a ProTour Qualifier to boot), and there will be more than just one Magic tournament, we ve put aside almost 2000 sq ft of space just for Magic to run tournaments and drafts all weekend long! You ll also see a variety of other games like D&D Minis, Pirates of the Cursed Seas, Star Wars Pocket Models, Pokemon, Hero Clix, Star Wars Minis, and YuGi Oh! CCG just to name a few more and that s not all!

2 We re bringing egames back to CalCon, although still in the planning stage, you ll have computer and Xbox 360 s (and possible other consoles as well) to relax with when you get backstabbed while playing Diplomacy and Pax Britannica, or after a really horrible dice roll. That s because, you guessed it, we love Games too! ( us if you want to gm) Not to be outdone there will be many more strategy and family board games we plan to run, though some might say it won t be nearly as stressful as our gigantic area for RolePlaying Games can you say $2000 in prizes for our 4 th ed. D&D Grandmaster Tournament?! How about HeadToHead D&D where your group and another group are both competing against each other in the same module. Or D&D Blunderdome; where warriors and rogues get down and dirty in a gladiatorial style free for all. If you need some magic to spice up your fun, well you ve also the choice of the D&D Wizards Duel and D&D Warlocks Duel. Should that be a little too boring for you, try the D&D Monster Mash, that s correct, who says you can t play a Death Knight Giraffe, it s your right, claim it! Should all that be boring, perhaps you should just build yourself a 20 th level character and walk into chaos incarnate; The D&D Monty Hall Character BakeOff! Not to be outdone by convention organizers, the RPGA has thrown down the gauntlet and threatened us with an all out RPGA extravaganza. You and your friends may decide that you can handle what the RPGA has in store for you, and play in RPGA sanctioned events, every. single. session. until. you. drop. Ah yea, you can do it! We re not stopping with Dungeons & Dragons alone, oh no, expect to see Bushido, Chivalry & Sorcery, Cthulhu, GURPS, Harn, Hero System, MechWarrior, Paranoia, Prime Directive, Toon, Tunnels & Trolls, and much more, whatever the choices the possibilities are endless. (did I mention to us if you want to gm?) Of course you may prefer your RolePlaying live, Live Action that is! It s early to give details though expect to see announced as time progresses a variety of Live Action RolePlaying games from a variety of genres. You don t think that s all do you? We sure have a lot of space for miniatures too! Battletech, Car Wars Classic, Games Workshop; LotR, Warhammer, Warhammer 40k and more, Full Thrust, Hordes, Warmachine, Ogre G.E.V., Starfleet Battles, Wooden Ships & Iron Men. Plus so much more to come, it s early yet, though more will be scheduled. (especially if you us if you want to gm!) For now, we ll give you a teaser with our convention planner and a cut down version of our Friday gaming schedule. Expect to see a 10 page schedule with half our current games on July 15 th, when preregistration starts.
