3 The Presidents Welcome Welcome and thank you for considering coming to Dunedin for NatCon This year our theme is celebrating war gaming and that is what we intend to do with great prizes, giveaways, Friday and Saturday night social events and a Hobby Zone with retailers, market tables, demo games, canteen and an audio-visual chill out area. With this being the first time we have hosted the nationals we are pulling out all the stops to provide you with a first class event. So get your mates together or come alone and meet up with fellow war gamers. We look forward to enjoying your company at NatCon Happy gaming! Lindsay Harrison OMTS President Getting Started This booklet is designed to give the prospective player and participant at NatCon16 a one stop place to find out relevant information. It also contains the Manual registration from in you are intending to register by cheque 1

4 and post. It also contains any extra information about the event that might be nice for you to know. The success of the event lies firmly in the hands of the Participants and their commitment to fair play. Health and Safety Information The welfare of the participants is of paramount concern to the Event organizers. In the unlikely event of a Health and Safety risk occurring during the event each area Marshall and his assisting team will ensure the prompt and complete evacuation of their areas mustering in the designated areas. For this reason, if you unexpectedly leave the event early then please advise your umpire or area Marshall, this doesn t include short departures. Food and Drink maybe consumed at the venue but dishes and rubbish will need to be placed into relevant areas to avoid smells and trip hazards developing please. All Laws about Alcohol are in affect and the organizers would like to remind you not to leave Alcohol unattended. Please do not buy or share drinks with anyone whose age you don t know. Breaking any alcohol related Law will result in immediate removal from the venue. The Venue is smoke free and the relevant Laws apply, however the venue has some covered outside smoking areas for comfort if the weather fails. Any special access or medical conditions that are required need to be clearly mentioned at registration time thank you. 2

8 Event Player Pack Information Your specific Tournament Payer Pack will be downloadable from the Otago Miniature Tacticians Society website as it is available. This will be where you go to get up to date information, cancellation and format changes as well. You reap what you sew. Fair play is an investment for future inclusion. Umpire Information A Hobby Participation Event or display game will have the umpire provided by the person hosting the event, and is expected to be sympathetic to the need of new players and questions from spectators. A one-day Tournament with a 4-person min can have a player umpire for rule umpiring and seek a Marshall for any other umpire needs including accusations of cheating. A two or three-day tournament with at least 6 players will have a non-player umpire overseeing it. RPG and card events dealt with organizer uniquely and will vary in their use of umpires dependant on formats used 6

9 The Umpires focus is on running an enjoyable and action packed tournament with the high drama on the tables and nowhere else, as such players will be encouraged to solve on table disputes promptly and in a friendly manner. The umpire reserves the right to correct poor or unacceptable behaviour as he sees fit. However, the umpire can ask for assistance from an event Marshall if the player continues the dispute where after an appropriate response will be applied. Under no circumstances will violent or abusive behaviour be accepted and the Marshall can apply any penalty from game forfeiture to complete event removal. The umpire will provide a rubbish bag but reminds the players that all rubbish be placed promptly in the dedicated areas. Players with special needs or considerations are requested to bring them to the organizers attention with Registration, and all possible efforts will be made to accommodate them. Prize Information All tournaments are funded in two ways for prizes. Official commemorative Victory Glassware and product prizes provided one for each full four entries received. 7

10 Product prizes are a mix of full or partial sponsorship, supplier discounted and player funded purchases. The Tournament organizer advises the event umpires of the nature of that prize package and then a reward mix for that tournament is arranged. Where direct fully funded sponsorship is available the sponsor s wishes are taken into account. This means that no prize package or reward format is likely to match any other and that is how the organizers prefer it. Large entry events are not penalized on prizes to support less popular events, but rather can offer a wider range or depth of rewards. Prize pools will not be winner takes all, but rather to reward event objectives. The painting competition is free to enter for each NatCon participant and is funded partially from each entry. NatCon 2016 is not being organized to be run as a profit generating activity for any individual or groups benefit. All excess player generated revenue is planned to be spent back as participant prizes and rewards. In the unlikely event significant funds remain then a disbursement back to participating clubs will be arranged. 8
