GKR: HEAVY HITTERS TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES OFFICIAL TOURNAMENTS Official Tournaments, at a conceptual level, expect players to possess a basic level of experience and a general understanding of game mechanics. Players in a GKR Tournament should have a decent grasp of the rules but not be afraid to ask questions if the need arises. Additionally as the Tournaments are timed you should be prepared to play at a reasonable pace, in the long run finishing games will generally result in better tournament standings so there s rarely a benefit to go to time. We also expect players to adhere to the general social contract of not intentionally playing to annoy. While subjective, such behavior if observed by a Referee/TO can result in player(s) being removed from the competition. Everyone wants a chance at the prizes but focus should still be on all Tournament Participants having a good time with their Heavy Hitters! While stores and game groups are encouraged to run tournament style events to their heart s content, the rules in this package are meant to define the expectations for an Official Tournament sanctioned by Weta Workshop. An official Tournament should generally include items from the Tournament Pack purchased by a Host from Weta Workshop. Un-official Tournaments As a general suggestion when hosting an unofficial tournament that does not include prize support, we suggest a Host still use the guidelines herein, if only to on board more players and referees so that all participants know what to expect if that Host does run an official Tournament in the future. TOURNAMENT ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES There are several different Roles for the Participants of an official GKR: Heavy Hitters Tournament. Each Role comes with expectations for both behavior as well as duties that they are meant to perform. Those roles and responsibilities are as follows: HOST/TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER Events will have only one Host. The Host is the retailer or location that has purchased the GKR Prize Pack(s) from Weta Workshop and is providing the physical play space for the Tournament. Usually someone from the shop staff will act as the Tournament Organizer as well, but it may be that that role falls to a trusted fan/friend of the shop with more GKR experience. Official Prize Packs will only be sold to established brick & mortar retailers. TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER (TO) An event will have one Tournament Organizer. A TO is an expert on the game s rules and regulations and is the final ruler on their applications during the tournament, essentially acting as both a head Referee as well as running the overall event. The TO should be available minutes before the Tournament start in order to review and approve the decklists of the participating Players as they arrive. A TO also reviews if unsportsmanlike conduct has occurred and what the appropriate solution is, referring any suggestions for disqualification to the host. REFEREE An event may have any number of Referees. Referees should be extremely knowledgeable in the game s rules and procedures. A Referee s duties include mediating Player disputes and/or giving answers to questions about the game s rules or the tournament s codes of conduct. Players always have the option of coming to an agreement between themselves in regards to disputes, but either player may also ask for a ruling from the referee at any time. Players may also request a Tournament Organizer to review a referee s ruling and provide a final determination. In these cases any determination that is made by the TO will be the one that stands. PLAYER Players are the gamers that play GKR: Heavy Hitters at the Tournament. A Player must bring all items they need to play a game of GKR: Heavy Hitters (more on this below). When a Player is not playing in a sanctioned game of GKR: Heavy Hitters, they are a Spectator and are expected to behave as such. Players should arrive at an event early enough to have their deck lists reviewed and approved by the Host/TO. NOTES ON SPECTATORS A Spectator is any person at the tournament not a player or actively acting as part of the event staff. Spectators shall not disturb any ongoing game, and will not provide any comments or assistance to the game s Players during the match.

TOURNAMENT MATERIALS There are both game components and Host Materials needed in order to run an Official Tournament. The Host/TO as well as Players are responsible for supplying their respective items/components. HOST/TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER MATERIALS A Host will arrange the location and provide tables and chairs for all Players. The Host/TO will assign a player number to each Player in the Tournament. These numbers are used for tracking and reporting purposes for that Tournament only and do not carry over to any other event. The Host will arrange the location and provide tables and chairs for all Players as well as table numbers so Players can easily find their table at the beginning of each Round. The Host/TO will have blank deck lists printed and pens for use, as well as enough game result slips for all players through every round of the Tournament. Finally, the Host/ TO will also have all required rules documents on hand for reference during the event. This includes the GKR: Heavy Hitters Rulebook as well as any other pertinent documents including these Tournament Regulations. Most of these documents can be found on the GKR: Heavy Hitters website. PLAYER MATERIALS Players will need to bring all their own game components that are required to play a game of GKR: Heavy Hitters. Neither Hosts nor other Players should be expected to provide additional components for other participants. It is the Player s responsibility to ensure that their deck is legal as well as to provide a pre written list to the TO to review before the event, or arrive early enough to generate a list on site for review and approval. If there is ever a question about deck legality Players are required to notify a Referee or Tournament Organizer. Players should never be allowed to look through each others decks during Tournament play, nor are they required to provide a decklist for their opponent. Deck Lists Events require Players to submit decklists, including their name, Heavy Hitter, Pilot, Drones, Faction, and all cards in their deck, including individual card counts to the Host/ TO upon arrival at the venue. If a Player includes a card in their deck or a component that could not be added per the rules of the game, they must change the list and re-submit prior to the Tournament starting. If a Host/TO/Referee discovers that a Player is playing with cards not in their official submitted Deck list, that Player should be disqualified from the Tournament and their current opponent is awarded with a Win. All previously reported round scores will stand as reported. Cards that may not be used in tournament play: Foiled Orbital Shock Cards from the Kickstarter Dice Players may only use dice designed and distributed by Weta Workshop. Players must provide their own set of applicable dice. Players must have all of the dice required to roll for their Heavy Hitter. Card Sleeves Players must cover their deck in opaque card sleeves for Official Tournaments. All sleeves within a single deck must be identical. Players may cover their Drone Cards with sleeves as well. Each Player is responsible for bringing a few spare sleeves for their Deck/Drones in case a card sleeve breaks during play. DECK BUILDING Players will build one team consisting of the following to use in the tournament. Players must use the same hitter, deck, and pilot for the entire tournament. 1 Heavy Hitter Heavy Hitter s corresponding drones 1 Pilot 1 Faction Deck, made up of 25 cards. FACTION SELECTION Any Faction may enter a Tournament. If both Players in a game are using the same Faction, one Player should mark their units in some way to differentiate sides (stickers on the bases, flags, etc.) This will prevent confusion for the Players and Referees. TOURNAMENT PLAY This section provides information and considerations for playing a game of GKR: Heavy Hitters at an Official Weta supported GKR Tournament. TOURNAMENT SETUP Before the Tournament begins, the TO must set up tables for Tournament play. Each seat should be arranged so that Players have enough space on the table to place all of their dice, cards, and models over the course of each game. Tower Placement For official Tournaments, the Tournament Organizer should select one of the pre-generated map layouts from the rulebook. The map layout that is selected should be used across all of The Tournament tables.

GAME SETUP The following steps must be performed before Players can begin their game each Tournament round. Each Player places their Drone/Pilot cards faceup in front of them, along with displaying their Faction s models and dice. Each Player sets up the battle map according to the rules of tower placement. Each Player shuffles their deck thoroughly and presents it to their opponent. The opponent may shuffle and/or cut the deck if desired. After the opponent has had a chance to shuffle the deck, each Player places his or her deck within easy reach in their play area and draws their starting hand. Players may choose to mulligan their hand once at this time. If they do, they draw another starting hand from the deck. Afterwards, they take the original hand and shuffle it back into the deck. Their opponent then has one remaining opportunity to cut and/or shuffle the deck before play begins. Players prepare the tokens they will need over the course of the game, placing them in piles within easy reach. Each player fixes his energy to the game s starting requirements. Players roll 3 dice and add up the values rolled. If there is a tie, they roll again until there is no tie. The Player with the highest total chooses which Player will receive the Glory Hound. Once Players complete setup, they must wait for the Tournament Organizer to announce the start of the round before beginning their game. If the round has already begun, Players may begin playing immediately upon completing these steps. DICE PROCEDURES When a Player controls multiple cards or effects that use a die, he or she must designate the specific card or effect that each die in their dice pool corresponds to, prior to dice rolling. The recommended way of designating this is by keeping dice adjacent to that card or source of the effect, in their dice pool area. When a Player rolls dice, he or she must roll into an area away from their dice pool. When rolling multiple dice, a Player must roll all dice simultaneously. When a Player adjusts a die in their dice pool because of an effect, they must be careful not to alter any other dice. When spending or removing a die from a Player s die pool, its owner should attempt to maintain the die face that was showing until the next time the die is rolled. MISPLAYS It goes without saying that all Players are expected to follow the games rules, but we are going to say it anyways, just in case. This includes playing the game in the correct sequence according to the game rules etc. This means being aware of all game steps and playing through them correctly. If a Player forgets an effect, or misses a timing step, they CANNOT retroactively use it - the opportunity has passed. In addition to the above, Players are expected (once again) to adhere to the social contract and let their opponent play their turn without distractions, rushing them etc. CONDUCT Tournament Participants are expected to act in a respectful manner during the tournament. Should Players have a dispute during a match they cannot resolve on their own, they will call for a Referee to resolve it and provide any rulings that are needed. All card interpretations during a Tournament are a Tournament Organizers responsibility, and they may overrule the rules documents when a mistake or error is discovered, reporting the incident to Weta Workshop post-tournament. Unsportsmanlike Conduct Again, it should go without saying that conduct that abuses the rules, or is just flat out socially unacceptable, is not allowed at an event. Playing for advantage, being disrespectful to an opponent, or blatant cheating are all things that fall under this umbrella. We recognize that some of this behavior may be subjective and as such it is up to the Host/TO to be observant and catch it before it becomes a problem. In many cases a quiet word my be enough to remind a Player that they are pushing the edges of acceptable behavior, in other cases a more hard line approach may be required. The Host or Tournament Organizer, at their sole discretion, may remove Players from the Tournament for unsportsmanlike conduct. In such circumstances Weta Workshop will be notified afterwards. TAKING NOTES AND OUTSIDE MATERIAL Players cannot take notes or reference outside material or information during a tournament round. Players may reference official rule documents at any time or ask a Referee/TO for clarification from official rule documents. Official rule documents include all rules documents and inserts available with the GKR: Heavy Hitters board game, or on the GKR: Heavy Hitters website or as included as part of this document. During a Tournament Round, Players are expected to refrain from using their phone/ tablet or other devices for any non Tournament related purposes.

LEGAL PRODUCTS Players use only official GKR: Heavy Hitters components in tournament play. For Official GKR: Heavy Hitters Tournaments, all product is legal worldwide at the start of the following month after the product s official release. TOURNAMENT RULES ROUNDS GKR: Heavy Hitters Tournaments are played in a predetermined series of rounds that award tournament points to the winner of each game. Each round pairs Players in head-to-head, single game matches, attempting to pair Players with the same number of tournament points together while preventing Players from playing the same opponent more than once. At the end of the tournament, the winner of is the Player with the most tournament points. 4 Players = 2 Rounds 5 8 Players = 3 Rounds 9 16 Players = 4 Rounds Players = 5 Rounds ROUND TIMES: Each round of GKR: Heavy Hitters has a predetermined length of time. This gives Players a set amount of time to complete each game. 60 minutes per Round is recommended. Round times can be shortened or lengthened depending on the overall tournament size. Round times must be clearly communicated to all players before the tournament begins and should be consistent between all rounds of a tournament. The Tournament Organizer should start the timer for a Tournament round after all Players have found their seats and finished setting up. If a game has not concluded when the time for a Tournament round ends, Players follow procedure for end of time. PAIRINGS Each Tournament round Players are paired with an opponent against whom they play one game of GKR: Heavy Hitters. For the first round, Players are matched randomly against an opponent. For each round after the first, players are paired at random against another player with the same number of tournament points whenever possible. Byes If there is an odd number of players in a round, a player must be assigned a bye instead of being paired against an opponent. That Player receives a win for that round of the tournament worth 3 points. Players should not be paired against the same opponent more than once during the tournament unless absolutely necessary. Players should never be assigned more than one bye during the course of a tournament unless absolutely necessary. Dropping Sometimes Players need to drop out of a Tournament due to sickness, emergency, alien invasion whatever the reason. When players drop they should notify the Host/TO that they will be leaving the event. At that point the TO will avoid seeding that Player in any future rounds. This will likely result in a BYE for another Player in the next round. There are no substitutions allowed for Players dropping from an event. Players will also be dropped from the Tournament if they have been paired but fail to show up within 10 minutes of the start of a round, or if they need to drop during a game for any reason. END OF GAME Each Tournament round consists of one game there will be 1 winner from each game in a round. A game ends in one of the following ways: Heavy Hitter Defeated: The player s Heavy Hitter is defeated. The game ends immediately, that Player receives a loss, and their opponent receives a win. If both Players Heavy Hitters are defeated simultaneously, the Player who controls the Glory Hound receives a win and the opponent receives a loss. Concession: A player voluntarily concedes defeat at any point during the game. The conceding player receives a loss and the opponent receives a win. Time: When time is called at the end of a tournament round, Players must follow the Going to Time rules to determine who receives a win. TOURNAMENT POINTS Players earn tournament points at the end of each round based off their victory. At the end of a tournament, the Player with the most tournament points wins the tournament. Win before Round Time Ends: 4 Pts = Win by defeating the enemy Heavy Hitter or enemy conceding within the Round Time. Going to Time If neither Player has achieved victory at the end of a tournament round, they must follow the steps below, in order, to determine who receives a win for the current game and the points scored for the win. That player s opponent receives a loss for the game. The Player who has less damage on their Heavy Hitter receives the win. Each Player counts the cards in their Damage Pile, the Player with the fewest wins. 3 Pts = Win by having the least damaged Heavy Hitter. If both Players have the same total, proceed to step 2. The Player with the most buildings tagged, conquered buildings count for the 4 tags used to conquer, receives a win.

2 Pts = Win by having the most buildings tagged. If both players have the same number of tags remaining, proceed to step 3. The Player who controls the Glory Hound at the end of the game receives a win. 1 Pt = Win by controlling the Glory Hound. END OF TOURNAMENT/RESULTS At the end of the tournament the 4 players with the most tournaments points are the Top 4. The player with the most tournament points is the overall winner and receives the Large Gold Glory Hound Trophy, 1 of the Gold Glory hound Miniatures, and all appropriate participation rewards. The other 3 players with the next highest tournament point totals, each receive 1 of the Gold Glory hound Miniatures, and all appropriate participation rewards. Tiebreakers At the end of the tournament if two or more players have the same number of tournament points that would affect the Top 4 finishers, the following tiebreakers are used to determine each player s standing. Strength of Schedule A Player s strength of schedule is calculated by adding each opponent s tournament points together, and then dividing that total by the number of opponents the Player has played. Example: Tournament Points Top 4: Player #1 = 14 Pts (Overall Winner!) Player # 9 = 9 Pts Player # 5 = 8 Pts Player #3 = 7 Pts Player #2 = 7 Pts Since 4th and 5th place have the same total tournament points Tiebreakers must be used to determine which player finishes in the Top 4. Player #2 played # 1, 4, 6, and 10. Those players scored a tournament total of 31 points, an average of 7.75 points per player (31 divided by 4). Player #3 played # 4, 1, 7, and 11. Those players scored a tournament total of 30 points, an average of 7.5 points per player (30 divided by 4). Based off this Player #2 had the higher Strength of Schedule, meaning they place in the Top 4, while Player #3 finishes in 5th place. If the Players Strength of Schedule remains tied proceed to Additional Tiebreakers. Additional Tiebreakers If Strength of Schedule does not break the tie use the following steps in order. Number of 4-point Wins. The player with the most wins before Round Time ended wins the tiebreaker. If this number is the same proceed to step 2. Number of 3-point wins. The player with the most wins by having the least damaged Heavy Hitter wins the tiebreaker. If this number is the same proceed to step 3. Number of 2-point wins. The player with the most wins by tagged buildings wins the tiebreaker. If this number is the same proceed to step 4. Number of 1-point wins. The player with the most wins by controlling the Glory Hound wins the tiebreaker. If this number is the same proceed to step 5. Play a single 30-minute speed game of GKR. The winner of the game wins the tiebreaker. PRIZES Once all scores are tallied the prizes awarded are as follows. These prizes are in addition to any prizes that the Host may be providing in addition to the ones listed below provided by Weta Workshop. First Place: Glory Hound Trophy & Gold Glory Hound model. Second Place: Gold Glory Hound model Third Place: Gold Glory Hound model Fourth Place: Gold Glory Hound model Participation Prizes At the end of each of the first 3 rounds all Players present will be given a foiled card pack.
