The use of untrained or inexperienced personnel to operate or service the equipment can result in injury, including death, to themselves and others, and damage to the equipment. This manual provides information about the 400/480 volt transformer option for the ProBlue 15 adhesive melter. This manual provides the following information, which does not appear in the melter product manual (PN ): - Transformer - Transformer sizing guidance - Transformer troubleshooting - Transformer parts For melter setup, operation, troubleshooting, and parts information, refer to the melter product manual. NOTE: The transformer ships from the factory prewired for 480 volt operation. Refer to Selecting 400 or 480 Volt Operation, if 400 volt operation is desired.

6 2 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option Introduction Safety Before installing or operating the transformer or melter, read the safety information provided in the melter product manual Section 1, Safety. CAUTION: Heavy Equipment! The transformer weighs 50 kg (110 lbs.) Use two people to lift the transformer. Lift the transformer using the lifting points provided. Intended Use This transformer (9.0 kva) can only be used with ProBlue 15 adhesive melters with the following part numbers: Use an input electrical service rated at 400 volts 3-phase without a neutral or 480 volts 3-phase without a neutral. 8 4 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option Transformer Sizing Review the following transformer sizing procedure to ensure that your transformer is correctly sized for the number and type of hoses/guns you intend to use. The following table lists the maximum allowable wattage for the melter. If your hose or gun is not listed in table, refer to the identification tag that is affixed to the hose/gun. 9 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option 5 Transformer Function The transformer(s) reduces the input electrical service to 230 volts and directs the reduced voltage to the melter s main circuit board. The main circuit board uses this voltage to power the hoses, guns, tank, and manifold as well as provide control power to the CPU. No change in melter programming is required in order for the transformer to operate.

10 6 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option Installation Before installing the transformer, familiarize yourself with the Section 3, Installation, of the melter manual. Installation Clearances The transformer has the same depth and width as the melter, but increases the overall height of the melter installation by 203 mm ( 8 inches). Installation Components The components illustrated in Figure 1 are required to install the transformer. These components are provided in the installation kit that ships with the P15 adhesive melter. 11 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option 7 Mount the Transformer 1. (Optional) If desired, the input power supply cable can be routed into the transformer from below. Remove the PG-21 knockout in the base of the transformer before mounting the transformer. See Figure 2 for the transformer bolt mounting pattern. NOTE: When using the transformer option, it is not necessary to use the sub-base provided with the melter. 2. 12 8 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option Connect the Electrical Service to the Transformer 1. Select a 3-wire (plus ground) input power cable rated for the maximum amperage required by the melter. Ensure that the cable meets applicable electrical codes and standards. Table 1 lists the maximum amperages (per line) for 400/480 volt ProBlue adhesive melters. ProBlue melters must be installed with a lockable power disconnect switch that completely de-energizes the melter by isolating it from its power source. Failure to de-energize the melter when required can result in personal injury, including death. WARNING: Risk of electrical shock or short circuit. Use rigid or flexible conduit or an appropriately sized strain relief to protect the power cable from the sharp edge of the conduit knockout. 2. Remove the lid from the transformer. 3. (Optional) Remove the access panel on the end of the transformer to provide easier access to the terminal block. 4. Route the input power cable between the power disconnect switch and the transformer. Secure the cable to the transformer using cable clamp P/N that is provided in the melter installation kit. See Figure Connect the cable leads to the terminal block at terminals L1, L2, and L3. 6. Connect the ground lead to the terminal block at PE. 7. If you need 400 volt operation, go to Selecting 400 or 480 Volt Operation. Otherwise, go to step Connect the ground lead to the lid. 9. Coil the output power cable inside the terminal block compartment, and then replace the transformer lid.

Move wires 13, 14, and 15 (Grey colored) to terminals 4, 5, and Connect the ground lead to the lid. 3. 15 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option 11 Mount the Melter to the Transformer CAUTION: Ensure that the transformer wire harnesses are not pinched between the transformer and the melter. CAUTION: Heavy Equipment! The transformer weighs 50 kg (110 lbs.) Use two people to lift the transformer. Lift the transformer from the four lifting points provided. See Figure 5. WARNING: Risk of Hand Injury! Remove the mounting plates from either side of the transformer before setting the melter down onto the transformer. Failure to remove the two mounting plates may result in fingers being caught between the melter and the mounting plates. 1. Remove the mounting plates from either side of the transformer. 2. Set the melter down onto the transformer so that the tabs on either end of the transformer align with the mounting holes on the ends of the melter. 3. Secure the melter to the transformer by reinstalling the two mounting plates. Figure 5 Removing/installing the mounting plates

16 12 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option Connect the Transformer to the Melter 1. Open the door to the melter electrical enclosure. See Figure Pull the output power cable up from the transformer into the electrical enclosure. 3. Connect the ground lead from the transformer terminal block to the lug on the transformer lid. 4. Connect the ground lead that is fastened to the corner of the electrical enclosure (marked PE/G) to the lug on the transformer lid. 5. Connect the output power cable to receptacle TB1 on the main board. See Figure Connect voltage plug PN , which is provided with the melter, between receptacles J1 on the main board and J3 on the expansion board. 7. 18 14 ProBlue 15 Transformer Option Troubleshooting The following table provides transformer-specific troubleshooting guidance. Refer to the melter manual, Section 6, Troubleshooting for general melter troubleshooting information. Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action 1.
