If you have any questions regarding the proper installation or local codes, consult a qualified electrician. * This fixture is intended for mounting inside cabinets and display cases or under shelves. It is not suitable for recessed applications. * Injury to persons and damage to the fixture and/or mounting surface may result if the fixture is pulled from the surface. To reduce the likelihood of such injury or damage, mount only on mechanically sound surface. * Both cordset and direct-wired fixtures are intended for connection to a grounded, three-wire source of supply. * To avoid shock hazard, do not work with live electrical wires. * Install the fixture in only dry, indoor applications. * Do not install outdoors or in applications other than the intended use. * Install and wire the fixture in locations in accordance with all national, state and local codes. * Fixtures are intended to be connected to nonmetallic cable or 3/8" flexible metal conduit. WARNING: TO AVOID SHOCK HAZARD, DISCONNECT THE Power AT THE ELECTRICAL PANEL. OVERVIEW Each Xenix installation consists of a Xenix fixture and a Power Feed. The Xenix fixtures can interconnected with the In-line Connector or Interconnect Cord options. Up to 8' of fixtures (200 Watts) may be row-mounted and powered by one Power Feed. (See Figure 1) There are two models (both available in either a right or left version) of the Power Feed the Direct Power Feed and the Portable Power Feed. The Direct Power Feed accepts connection to the AC electrical supply wiring. (A FMC/Romex connector is supplied with the Direct Power Feed.) The Portable Power Feed has a 6 3-wire power cord and plug allowing the installer to plug into a grounded receptacle to connect to AC electrical power. Both versions of the Power Feeds are supplied with an In-line Connector to allow the Power Feed to be interconnected directly to the end of the Xenix fixture. The Power Feed can also be remotely mounted and interconnected to the Xenix fixture with one of the Interconnect Cords. These cords must be ordered separately. The ports at the Xenix ends, the Power Feeds, In-line Connectors and Interconnect Cords all are all keyed to maintain the polarity of the wiring as components are plugged together. Optional snap-on fascias are available in four styles and in colors to match the light modules. Fascia may be field cut to fit any cabinet or shelf width. 2 Hardware Included: The parts required for hard-wired mounting are supplied with the fixture in a separate parts bag. One hardware bag (illustrated to the right) contains: 1. (4) #6 x 3/8" Phillips Pan Head Mounting Screw 2 for mounting Power Feed 2 for mounting Xenix fixture (2 additional for XN36 & XN48) 2. (1) 3/8" FMC/Romex Connector Supplied for Direct Power Feed only (XN-DWR, XN-DWL) A. INSTALLATION Before preparing the Power Feed: Determine where the fixtures(s) will be mounted and to which end of the fixture the Power Feed will be connected. Determine whether the Power Feed is going to be mounted flush with the fixture(s) using an In-line Connector (FC), or mounted remotely using a Coiled Interconnect Cord (CCW or CCB) or a Straight Interconnect Cord (SCW or SCB). Determine whether the Power Feed is to use a cordset or be direct wired. B. PREPARING THE Power Feed NOTE: If you are using a Portable Power Feed (with cordset), no preparation is necessary. If you are using a Direct Power Feed, you must install the FMC/Romex connector to accept flexible metal conduit (FMC) or Romex cable. To install the FMC/Romex connector on the Direct Power Feed, perform the following procedures: 1. Remove and retain the two screws securing the cover to the Power Feed housing (Figure 2). Insert the square nut and the conduit grounding clip into the housing and then screw in the FMC/Romex connector. Use the nut on the Romex connector as a jam nut and secure the connector. 3. Loosen the two screws on the Romex connector. Slide the Power wiring (or flex conduit and wiring, if applicable) into the connector and tighten the two screws to secure it. 4. Use the supplied wire nuts to connect the power wires to the wires in the Power Feed. Make sure that the wires in the Power Feed are neatly dressed. Replace the Power Feed cover and secure it with the two screws. C. MOUNTING THE UNITS 1. Locate the fixture(s) and Power Feed in place to make sure that there is adequate room. 2. Using the fixtures(s) and Power Feed as templates; mark the location of the mounting holes. Drill pilot holes the mounting screws. 2

3 C. MOUNTING THE UNITS (cont.) 3. Based on the intended location of the Power Feed, continue to either Section D. (for flush-mounted Power Feed) or Section E. (for remote-mounted Power Feed). D. FLUSH-MOUNTED Power Feed NOTE: The port cover on the end of the fixture where the Power Feed connects must be removed. If additional fixtures are to be mounted, the port cover at the mating end must also be removed. 1. To remove port cover connector, insert a small screwdriver into the top opening. Carefully use the head of the screwdriver to release the port cover connector from the Molex connector. If not planning to cover the port opening in the future, discard receptacle cover connector (Figure 3). 2. Observe how the In-line Connector is keyed, and insert the connector into the fixture in the proper orientation. Slide the fixture into the open end of the Power Feed making sure the mounting tab on the bottom side of the Power Feed (Figure 4) mates into the notch on the end of the fixture. Figure 3 Port Cover 3. Lift the fixture(s) into position and mount it to the display case or shelf using the supplied screws. NOTE: The lighting fixture mounts with two mounting screws at either end of the fixture. Always mount the fixture(s) first, and then flush-mount the Power Feed and secure it with mounting screws. NOTE: If installing additional fixtures, observe how the connectors are keyed, and insert the connector in the corresponding position into one of the fixtures. Slide the fixture onto the connector until it is flush with the first fixture. Repeat when adjoining additional fixtures (Figure 4) 4. Continue to Section I. Testing System. REMOTE-MOUNTED Power Feed NOTE: The port cover on the end of the fixture where the Power Feed connects must be removed. If additional fixtures are to be mounted, the port cover at the mating end must also be removed. NOTE: Locate the remote-mounted Power Feed so that the interconnect cord reaches the fixture. 1. After the Power Feed is mounted, use either the optional Coiled Interconnect Cord (CCW or CCB) or the Straight Interconnect Cord (SCW or SCB) to connect it to the fixture. 3. Continue to Section I. Testing System. F. FASCIA INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL) Fascias come in 4-foot and 8-foot lengths. They can be cut to any length, and mitered to form corners for a finish installation. Fascia mounting clips are used to support fascias that are cut to lengths longer than the fixture(s). 1. Measure that installation and determine the length of each fascia section. 2. Use a miter box and cut the fascia to the needed length. 3. If necessary, use a small, fine file to remove any burrs before installing. 4. Refer to Figure 5 and ensure that the fascia is oriented properly to the fixture. 5. Engage the ridge in the fascia into the mating groove in the top of the fixture. 3

4 F. FASCIA INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL) (Cont.) 6. Pivot the fascia and engage in into the bottom of the fixture. The fascia may be slid along the light module to position it properly. 7. If two pieces form a mitered corner, ensure that one mounting clip is used for each piece, and that the clips are located as close to the corner as possible. 8. If the fascia extends beyond the light module, secure it to the mounting surface with mounting clips. Locate the mounting clip(s) and mark the hole(s). Drill a pilot hole and secure the clip with a #8 screw. G. DIFFUSER INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL) 1. Orient the diffuser to the fixture as shown in Figure Insert the straight tabs on the diffuser into the groove in the housing. Hold the diffuser in position. 3. Flex the angled tabs and insert them into the housing. Pivot the diffuser and release the tabs so they snap into place. 4. To remove the diffuser, flex the angled tabs so they release from the housing. XENON LAMP INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT WARNING: THE XENON LAMPS BURN VERY HOT. ALLOW THE LAMPS AND FIXTURE TO COOL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE A LAMP. WARNING: ENSURE THAT POWER IS REMOVED FROM THE FIXTURE BEFORE REPLACING A LAMP. THE LAMP GETS HOT QUICKLY WHEN IT IS LIGHTED. Each light fixture uses 24-Volt, 5 Watt xenon frosted lamps. Lamps are rated for 10,000 hours. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE. Use the following procedure to install or replace xenon lamp(s). 1. Remove power from the fixture. Figure 6 straight tab diffuser 2. To remove; grasp the xenon lamp by the base and while wiggling it slightly side to side, pull it straight out from the fixture. 3. To replace; align the base of the replacement lamp with the socket in the fixture and press the lamp into the socket until it snaps into place. 4. Restore power to the fixture. I. TESTING SYSTEMS WARNING: BEFORE TESTING YOUR FIXTURE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ONLY HAVE ONE POWER FEED CONNECTED TO A FIXTURE (OR A RUN OF FIXTURES). 1. Test the fixture(s): Direct-wire installations: Apply power to the lamp circuit and place the Power Feed switch in the ON position to test the installation. Never connect more than one power feed to a fixture or a run of multiple fixtures. Cordset Units: Plug the cordset into a properly grounded outlet and place the Power Feed switch in the ON position to test the installation. 2. If the lamps don t come on, refer to the Troubleshooting Table for additional information on Page 5. 4
