1 SURVIVAL TIN Version Place the Trail map in front of you and place a eurocube to mark the number of days needed to survive - (12) for beginner game, (15) for skilled game, (18) for expert game - until you can be rescued. Place the 18 Survival cards in front of you, creating pile of matching cards. All cards should show a white circle or diamond in the upper right. These are the Survival Items in your survival tin and are of two types: One Time Use Item. Once used it will be discarded as Lost. You may be able to get this item back through Forage. Multi-Use Item. You may use this item as much as you like until it receives Damage. The the item is flipped over to it s Damaged side. Once an item is Damaged, if it is then Damaged a second time it is removed from the game and may not be used any longer. All cards show a set of Problem icons. The colored icons show which Problems the Survival Item can Solve. Fire Make fire... stay warm First Aid Sew wounds, apply makeshift bandages, make a sling Food Create snares to trap game and fish Forecast Bad weather is on the way, build a shelter and repair your clothing A One Time Use Item showing a Problem icon with a white ring around it will always need to be paired with a Multi-Use Item when Solving 1 Problem If a Multi-Use Item can not be paired with a One Time Use Item, the Multi-Use Item can be used alone but must be turned to the Damaged side of the card. Playing the Game: Each day is a turn in the game. During your turn you will roll the three dice, up to two times in some cases, and attempt to Solve 1 Problem. Once your turn is over, move the eurocube one day forward on the path towards the (0) day space and rescue. After rolling all three dice once, look for any matching icons. Use the following guide to determine what to do next: A. ALL DIFFERENT 1. Repair any one Damaged Multi-Use Item and flip the ex. 1 card back to the front side or 2. Forage for one Lost One Time Use Item in your discard ex. 2 pile with a colored icon that matches one of the dice icons, placing it face up in front of you again or 3. Roll any/all dice once more if you choose to C. 2 PAIRS ex. 1 ex. 2 ex Stop rolling dice 2. Choose one set of dice faces with matching icons = Solve 1 Problem 3. For the other set of dice faces with matching icons = Damage or Lose Item with matching colored icon ex. 4 B. 2 OF A KIND ex. 1 ex. 2 ex Set aside matching dice 2. Roll remaining die once more 3. Dice faces with matching icons = Solve 1 Problem unless dice match C or D pattern D. 3 OF A KIND ex. 1 ex Stop rolling dice 2. Dice faces with matching icons = Solve 1 Problem twice

2 Solve Problem - Use a Multi-Use Item with a colored icon which matches the Problem as shown on the matching dice faces. The Multi-Use Item must be paired with a One Time Use Item which also has a colored icon which matches the Problem. The One Time Use Item is then discarded. If you no longer have a One Time Use Item to pair with the Multi-Use Item, the Multi-Use Item can be used alone but must be turned to the Damaged side of the card. Exception to this rule: The Safety Matches may be used without pairing them with a Multi-Use Item. Damage - Flip a Multi-Use Item with a colored icon that matches the pair of dice faces, from its front side (showing a white diamond) to its back side (showing a yellow diamond). If the Multi-Use Item is damaged a second time it is removed from the game. Lose Item - Discard a One Time Use Item. Forage - From the discard pile, choose any one One Time Use Item with a colored icon that matches a die face icon and place it back in front of you. Matching Icons - match the icons show on the dice faces with the colored icons shown on the Survival Items. Repair Item - Flip a Multi-Use Item from its back side (showing a yellow diamond) to its front side (showing a white diamond). Winning the Game: If you can make it to the (0) day space you win and will be rescued. If, during any turn, you cannot Solve a Problem because you do not have the required Survival Items you lose the game. Survival Tin is 2015 Todd Sanders/Air and Nothingness Press
