2 Teacher Instructions Thank you for trying the COLOR VERSION of Descúbrelo! This game is designed for use in world language or ESL classrooms as a way to reinforce important vocabulary and encourage use of the target language. Colors reviewed with this game include the following: white, black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, grey, brown, pink, light blue, teal/turqouise Cards must be printed in color. Cut all of the circle cards out. Lamination is recommended to keep the cards durable for use with multiple classes. If lamination is not available, try printing them on cardstock. You will need 1 set of 13 cards per group. Since the ideal size for most games is 4 players, divide the size of your largest class by 4 to figure out the number of sets you will need. Group sizes can range from 2 8 players. Ideal group size for most games is 4 players. Be sure to check out our other Descúbrelo! games for other vocabulary topics by visiting our store! H. Lamovsky, 2016

3 Descúbrelo! Game Instructions Descúbrelo! is a card game consisting of 13 cards, each decorated with 4 pictures. There are more than 12 different pictures in all. One and only one matching picture exists between any two cards. Get ready to Descúbrelo!. Regardless of which version you are playing, the goal is always to be the fastest player to spot the matching picture between two cards and call it out in the target language of course! Then, depending on which version you are playing, you will either place the card on the pile, or discard it. Juego 1: La Torre Shuffle the cards and deal one card, face-down, to each player. The rest of the cards will become the draw pile, which is placed face-up in the center of the table. The goal of this game is to be the player that collects the most cards. At the same time, players flip over their cards. They try to spot the one picture that appears both on the center card and their own card. If you are the first player to spot it, you call out the name of the object in Spanish. Then take the center card and place it face-up on top of your card, building your own pile. Now you will use the top card of your own pile. Each time a new center card is revealed, this process is repeated. Play continues until there are no cards remaining in the draw pile. The player with the most cards in their personal pile at the end of the game wins. Juego 2: El Pozo Place one card face-up in the middle of the table. Shuffle and deal the remaining cards evenly to all player, who keep them face-down, forming their own personal draw piles. The goal of this game is to be the first player to get rid of all of their cards. At the same time, players flip their entire draw piles over so they are face-up. If you are the first player to spot the identical picture on both your top card and the center card, call it out in Spanish and place your card on top of the center card. It becomes the new center card for which players try to find a match. You now have a new card revealed on your own personal pile to match to the center card. Play continues until one player has run out of cards. The first player to run out of cards wins the game.

4 Descúbrelo! Game Instructions (Cont.) Juego 3: Papa Caliente Shuffle the cards and deal one card face-down to each player. The remaining cards are set aside to be used later. Decide how many rounds you wish to play (minimum 3). The goal of this game is to have the least amount of cards after all of the rounds are played. This is accomplished by getting rid of your cards during each round. All players should begin with their card face-down in their hand. At the same time, players turn over the card in their hands. The card should be held flat and you should keep your hand steady. If you spot a matching picture between your card and another player s card, call it out in Spanish. Place your card face-up on top of the other player s card. If you have two or more cards in your hand, look only at your top card for a match. When you spot it, give ALL of your cards to the player who has the match. Play is repeated in this manner until one player has all of the cards. That player loses the round and creates a personal discard pile with those cards. A new round starts. At the end of the final round, the player with the fewest number of cards in his/her discard pile wins the game. Juego 4: El Regalo Venenoso Shuffle the cards and deal one card to each player. These cards are placed face-down in front of them. The remaining cards are placed in the middle of the table face-up and form the draw pile. The goal of this game is to have the fewest number of cards. At the same time, players flip over their cards. Players look for a match between the center card and any of the other players cards. If you spot a match, call it out in Spanish. Take the center card and place it on top of the other players card you looked at to make the match. This is the regalo venenoso, since you gave a card to an opponent. A new card is revealed as the center card and play continues until the draw pile is empty. The player with the fewest number of cards wins the game.

5 Descúbrelo! Game Instructions (Cont.) Juego 5: Trillizo Place all the cards face-down in a pile. The goal of the game is to collect the most cards. One player takes the first 9 cards and places them face-up on the table. Then, at the same time, all players try to find a matching picture on any 3 cards. The same picture must be present on all 3 cards to make a matching set. As soon as you find the matching picture, call it out in Spanish, take the 3 cards that you ve won, and reload with 3 new cards. When there are fewer than 9 cards left in the game and no more sets of matching cards, the game ends and the player with the most cards wins.
