Chapter 1 : Beaded Wild Animals Fox Chapel Publishing Beaded Bag-ettes: Fabulous Projects with TOHO "Treasures" Seed and Bugle Beads (Design Originals) 13 Beautiful Step-by-Step Projects for Bags, Pouches, Photo Holders, Jewelry, & More (Can Do Crafts) Paperback - January 1, Super New Glue Now, one thing to note: You can vary the size of leather that goes into these end caps. You actually have all kinds of options when it comes to layered strands of leather â if it fits in the end cap, go ahead try it on your design! Add a few drops of glue to the inside of one end cap. I typically wait to cut my leather until after I glue it in so that I can cut it evenly just once â otherwise, you can cut each strand to 7 inches, and then glue all the strands in at once. Allow the glue to set for about a minute before moving on. It will sit nicely around your wrist that way. I usually add beads to each strand. Use more or less, as you like. Then, glue on the other end cap. Allow your bracelet to dry for at least 10 minutes before wearing it, to ensure that the glue is fully dry. Cut 4 pieces of wire about inches in length each. At the 1 end of each wire, you will need to place a small loop. To do this, I pinched the very end of the wire with my round nose pliers and wrapped the wire around to create a small circle. With each wire strand, you will want to repeat this pattern. This is going to be the legs of the spider. String the beads all the way so they are tight against the loop you made in the wire. This part is a little tricky. As you can see in the kinky ends of the wires I had to do this a couple of times before I was happy with the results. Hold tight with the pliers and do a twisting motion with the legs. You want a nice tight twist like shown in the second picture. Next, comes the body of the spider. I poked the headpin in between the wires that were already twisted for the legs. So I held 4 wires a little bit further down the strands and twisted some more. Here I did a wire wrap loop to keep it all secure and together. He needs 4 more legs! Using the same pattern as before, string the beads onto the wire for the other 4 legs. When all beads are on, push them as tightly to the body of the spider as you can and do another wire loop and trim off the excess wire. When all legs were finished he looked like this. Like a spider, but a sad and flat spider. Gently bend the wires at the first joint closest to the body to make it look like he is standing. I know you want one now too! While this spider fits perfectly for Halloween but did you know there is a legend of the Christmas spider too? You can read the story here. So where are you going to put your spider? In a scary Halloween scene, hang it from your Christmas Tree or both? Share and leave a comment below. You Might Also Like: Page 2
Chapter 3 : Take a Break: 15 Fun Beaded Crafts That Aren't Jewelry! Beaded Bag-ettes: Fabulous Projects with TOHO "Treasures" Seed and Bugle Beads (Design Originals) 13 Beautiful Step-by-Step Projects for Bags, Pouches, Photo Holders, Jewelry, & More (Can Do Crafts). Check out these super fun beaded crafts that making working with beads exciting again between your regular jewelry projects! You can make the big or small, but no matter their size, these fun little creatures are a project that kids will get endless amusement out of once they learn the technique. Choose colours and shapes that look just like the playing pieces that fall down in the classic video game. Glue them together, glue a magnet to the back, and stick them up, just like Moms and Crafters did! Arrange an array of coloured beads in a tinfoil muffin tin and place the tin on a low heat setting on top of the barbecue. Let them melt together and then set them to cool. Hang them up to catch the light beautifully! Pony bead fish It Happens in a Blink suggests this quick and easy crafts for little kids who love arranging little pieces and colourful things. All you need are some regular plastic pony beads and some coloured pipe cleaner! The beads will look like little fish scales and the pipe cleaner can be twisted into a little fish tail. Big, rounded wooden beads are fun for kids to work with as well. String them along a coloured pipe cleaner, knitting or bending it at each end to keep them on. Draw a face on the top bead and you have a little caterpillar, just like this one from A Mummy Too! String them along a piece of black twine or thin leather string, knitting to keep them at one end or the other. Arrange them into a flower shape on top of some wax paper, cover them in another wax sheet, and lightly iron them so they melt together. Perler bead cup covers Perler crafts are pretty versatile! Twin Dragonfly Designs guides you through the process of creating a cover for your cup with a straw hole in the middle. Kids will have a total blast making these colourful bowls with your help, of course! Put one on the side table with candies in it for guests and another by the door to hold your kets and spare change! Get the instructions on Yesterday on Tuesday. Cork magnets with bead features Moms and Crafters shows you how to make these adorable little characters our of beads, corks, wires, and a magnet strip. Use the beads as facial features, hands, and feet! Grab red beads of different sizes, a black bead for the head, and some black crafting wire. The Crafty Blog Stalker walks you through the rest of the process. Grab pipe cleaners and some googly eyes and make an even simpler snake than the idea we listed earlier. Beaded wind chimes Beads are bright and colourful, but many beads together are also great for making pleasant sounds. Happy Hooligans makes the most of that quality by creating colourful wind chimes using water bottles, beads, buttons, string, and paint. Stick a strip of magnet to the back and stick it right onto the fridge! Tell us how you did them in the comments section! Page 3
Chapter 4 : Easy Beaded DIY Leather Bracelet - Happy Hour Projects Beads. It's like my craft "room" is taken over by them. Here are eighteen FUN things to make with beads that are NOT jewelry.. If you've ever been an aspiring jeweler, you'll know just how quickly the beads can take over. At times teachers experience difficulty finding Native American art projects which include tutorials. That was a huge problem for me when I was volunteer teaching an elementary art class a few years ago. Cornhusk Dolls Make cornhusk dolls like the Indians and colonists did. For the directions, go to the Martha Stewart site. Paper Plate Rattles The kids will really get into making this project. Paper plates, a paint stick and paper mache! Find all the instructions for making these rattles at Art is Basic. Felt Teepee Making an Indian village with felt teepees is a great classroom project. American Indian Headband A fun project that could be used for Thanksgiving. A great time to discuss the important role the Indians played at the first Thanksgiving celebration. Go to Firstpalette for the instructions. Peace Pipe The kids will have a great time making this peace pipe. For the instructions and some interesting notes about the peace pipe, go to Plains Indians Crafts. Indian Medicine Bag The bead work on this Indian medicine bag makes it a special project. Find the directions and reading suggestions for this craft at Eastern Indian Crafts. Kachina Doll The Indians in the southwest, the Pueblo Indians, considered the Kachinas ancestral spirits who came to help their people. To make the Kachins dolls, go to Southwest Indian Crafts for the instructions. Woven Basket An easy craft for the classroom. Find the supplies list and instructions at The Crafty Classroom site. Indian Necklace A pasta necklace with colored pasta. The directions for dyeing the pasta is included in the instructions for necklace at All Kids. The size and colors will make it a family favorite. Dreamcatchers Find step-by-step instructions for making this beautiful Dreamcatcher at That Artist Woman. Simple Native American Necklace Get the template and instructions at Artists Helping Children. Southwest Indian Drum A salt container, felt and feathers are all it takes to make this Southwest Indian inspired drum. Indian Medicine Pouch Kids could do a felt version of the Indian medicine pouch. Go to Children at Play for the directions. Indian Rain Maker Another fun and easy rain stick craft. Find the instructions for this recycled supplies craft at Activity Village. Begin With a Buffalo Make Indian symbols, but begin by cutting out a buffalo shape. Find all the directions for this neat craft at Crayola. Go to Kinder Art to find out how to do this sand painting. Paper Bag Teepees So simple to make and so appropriate for a class project. Go to Art with Mr. Giannetto for the pictured instructions. Go to Crayola for the instructions. Native American Indian Pottery Go to the Crayola site to find out how you can make beautiful pottery like this. Native American Talking Stick Hold a family council and use this replica of the Indian talking stick to maintain order. This craft is found at Activity Village. Indian Pony Bead Bracelet Both the boys and the girls will enjoy making a pony bead bracelet, so this would be a great classroom or troup activity. Find the instructions for this project at A. A great class resource. The kids can make these ears of corn by going to Cutesy Crafts for the instructions. Native American Shield This is a really nice classroom project. Native American Breastplate Make a breastplate like those worn by Sioux warriors. New Archaeology has the directions for making this native American project. Burlap Weaving This would make a great classroom or scout project because the supplies are inexpensive and easy to find. Coilpot Pueblo Indians of the Southwest are famous for their crafts. This lesson uses clay to make the Pueblo inspired coilpot shown above. Make coilpots to enhance a classroom lesson on the Pueblo Indian culture. For the instructions, go to the Blick site. Shakers The kids will love making their own shakers. For the tutorial, go to the Modern Kiddo site. Indian Costume If you want to make a quick or inexpensive Indian costume, consider making a paper bag costume like the one shown above. Go to Be Brave Keep Going for this version of the corn husk doll. Wind Chimes I think this would be a great classroom project. Gathering the supplies, which are super inexpensive, can be done during one class period or each student could bring the supplies to class. For the tutorial to put the wind chimes together, go to the Art Club Blog site. Aztec Art The Aztec sun art is a favorite of mine. Help the kids make beautiful Aztec sun art like the one shown above by going to the Homeschool 4 Me site for the instructions. Paper Bag Vest Kids learn so much better when a subject includes some hands on activities. Making paper bag vests will give studying Indian culture a more personal event. Go Page 4
to the Crayola site for instructions for this craft. Indian Chief A great project for little kids learning about the meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday. An easy, and fun project. This is a great project for classroom use when studying our Native Americans. Find the tutorial for making the bubble wrap Indian corn at Crafts for all Seasons. American Indian Jewelry Printable Totem Pole This printable totem pole project will come in handy for use in the classroom. Especially if the time allotted is restricted. This would make a great classroom art project when learning about our Native Americans. During a meeting, whoever had the talking stick could say what he wanted without anyone else interrupting him. Everyone else listened carefully. This is a little different than the talking stick shown earlier and is also a very nice project. The instructions can be found at Classic Play. Feather Hair Clip Making these feather hair clips would be a nice project for a camp or classroom activity. Find the tutorial for making this hair clip at Pow Wows. Page 5
Chapter 5 : How to Make a Beaded Spider - The Crafty Blog Stalker DIY Beaded Bookmark - could even just do half of it and attach it to the purchased bookmarks we have. Find this Pin and more on Bookmarks by Susan Wilson. Crafts and DIY Ideas Archives - Page 5 of 28 - My Frugal Adventures. Beads can be used in lots of craft projects with kids. No matter how much you enjoy making jewellery, there comes a time when you just want to do something else. There are some great projects you can make using all your left over beads and findings, and most use only basic jewellery making techniques. Bead Mosaic Bead mosaics are a fun to make, and even really young children can join in. To start with, find a base you want to mosaic. It could be something big like an old mirror or something smaller like a picture frame. Old coasters and placemats are fun to mosaic, and smaller things like puzzle pieces and bottle caps can be made into brooches or magnets. You are only limited by your imagination, so take a look around and see what you can find. If you want a specific pattern, draw it onto your base before you start, then simply start gluing. Jewellery cement is clear glue which is specifically for cementing beads, so while it is a little more expensive than ordinary craft glue, it definitely does the job. Some craft glues will also hold the beads in place, but make sure you check the back of the bottle first. Once you have completely covered your base in beads, you can use tiny seed beads to fill in the gaps. Beaded Mobiles Making a mobile out of beads is easy peasy, and they look particularly good in kids bedrooms. Start with a wire ring for your base. You can either make this out of heavy gauge wire, or buy ready made hoops from a craft supply shop. Loop a piece of tiger tail wire over the hoop, and use a crimp to hold the loop in place. Add 5 or 6 more strings around the hoop. Once you have all your mobile strings in place, start threading your beads. You can either stack the beads to form a solid line, or use crimps to give a floating effect. Finish each strand with a crimp to stop the beads from falling off the end. Use tiger tail to make a carry handle over the top of the hoop, and use it to hang over a hook. Table Cloth Weights Table cloth weights make great presents, and are especially good to make in summer when everyone is eating outdoors. Simply take a silver bulldog clip and thread a piece of tiger tail wire through the hole. Loop it back on itself, and slide a crimp over both pieces, pulling it tight to the clip. Squash the crimp flat to hold the wire in place. Thread beads onto both strands of wire and finish with a crimp to hold the beads in place. The weights are then clipped onto the corner of a tablecloth, and the weight of the beads stops the tablecloth from blowing around in the wind. Beaded Serviette Holders You can make serviette rings as simple or as elaborate as you like, and with the use of alphabet beads, you can even name them! Cut a length of heavy gauge craft wire about 20 is good, and using round nosed pliers make a small loop at one end. Thread on all sorts of different beads, and then make a small loop at the other end to stop them from falling off. Wrap the wire around and around a cylinder to create a serviette sized ring. I use the Greggs spices jars, but hunt in your pantry to find something that works. Gently slide the ring off the cylinder, and walahâ. Wine Charms Wine charms have been around for years now, but they still make neat presents, and they are fun to make if you are having a party. Simple wine charms can be made by threading different coloured beads onto earring hoops, but you can add a special touch by dangling different charms off each one. Either buy ready made charms to attach, or make your own by threading beads onto a headpin, and creating a loop at the end to thread through. You can also make dangly charms by threading beads onto tiger tail, and attaching the wire using a crimp. Key Rings There is no end to the creations you can make when it comes to key rings. Simply bead and create on wire, head pins or chain, and then attach your creation to a split ring. You can use the same idea to make a cell phone charm, but instead of attaching your creation to a ring, use a clasp that can be hooked onto the end of your phone. Beaded Lampshade Dress up a plain lampshade by dangling beads from the bottom of the shade. Simply punch holes around the bottom, and then thread through tiger tail wire. Use a crimp to hold the wire in place, and then thread on your selection of beads. Either stack the beads to form a solid dangle, or use crimps to give a floating effect. Finish each strand with a crimp to hold the beads in place. Candle Wraps Cut a length of fine gauged wire about 26 is good, and poke one end of it into the bottom of a candle. Thread on a selection of beads, and slowly wrap the wire around the candle as you go. Once you get to the top, poke the end of the wire back into the candle to hold it in place. If you want you can add charms and danglies as you Page 6
go. As the candle burns, the candle wrap holds its shape and you are left with a fabulous beaded coil. This information was compiled by the Kiwi Families team.
