Scarves are hand loomed, many from natural fibers. All flowers are hand made with singed edges for shaping. Again many repurposed fabrics used. I contrast the coldness of metal with the warmth of wood. Metal supports the work but the natural beauty of the wood demands the focus. I use a vintage lathe and handmade tools to turn vessels ranging from classic to modern forms. The white frames provide stillness as a counterpoint to the innate movement of the work as a whole. I developed a technique to achieve my goal of incorporating color, pattern and texture into my work by manipulating wool felt into shapes and then treating them like actual stones. Inspired by life forms in nature, the pieces consist of as many as 100 pieces of naked calfskin, hand dyed,and carefully assembled, then sculpted, while both wet and hot. Paint is applied by brush, spray, sponge, etc. in several coats. Epoxy, glue, screws and brads secure the pieces of the design. My esthetic intention is to create wall pieces that are texturally rich and dynamic in design.
