1 DEPARTMENT 18 EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS Dwain Shaw - Superintendent 1. Exhibit must be entry of organized Community Club or 4H Project Club. 2. Twelve Community Clubs in County. 3. Space will be 8 x Judging on Educational Values and Attractiveness. RULES Each Community Club will be allowed to enter and exhibit in the Middle Tennessee Fair. The space allotted each Club will be 8 x 8. The exhibit will be judged and awarded either a blue or red ribbon. The Clubs awarded a blue ribbon will receive $100 for the Club. Those Clubs receiving a red ribbon will receive $75 for their Club. Each 4H Project Club will be allowed a space of 4 x 8. Exhibits will be judged and awarded either a blue or red ribbon. 4H Project Clubs receiving a blue ribbon will receive $75 and clubs receiving a red ribbon will receive $50. In addition, each personal exhibit entered in the Middle Tennessee Fair will count one point for the Community Club of which they are a member. Each community club that enters an educational booth will receive 25 bonus points toward their totals from individual exhibits. Arrangements: 1 st $10.00, 2 nd $5.00, 3 rd $3.00, Best of Show $ FLOWER SHOW RULES 1. All entries must be named to be eligible for a blue ribbon. For example: in Lot 12 of Roses, the name might be Mr. Lincoln and must be written on the entry tag. Also include the botanic name of your cut annuals, named in the perennials, herbs, trees, or shrubs when you know them. Plant material does not have to be arrangement class. 2. Judging is based on AHandbook for Flower Shows@ which can be read at the Lawrence County Public Library. One ribbon grouping, consisting of Blue 1 st, Red 2 nd, and White 3 rd, will be awarded to each lot, with a Best of Show in each class chosen from its 1 st place winners. 3. All pots must be clean and not more than ten (10) inches in diameter with the exception of hanging plants which are not to be more than twelve (12) inches in diameter. Hanging plants may be on a stand which the exhibitor must provide. Plants must be free from insects, disease, insecticide residue and dead plant material. 4. Bring a bottle for each cut specimen. The stem should be visible. The bottle able to support the specimen. 5. Wedging is desirable so that flowers are up-right and show to best advantage. Crumpled plastic wrap may be used. Tree specimens may be wedged with 1@ pieces of stems 6. An exhibitor may enter more than one specimen per lot if the specimens are of different varieties. For example, in Lot 12 of Roses, an exhibitor could enter 2 exhibits if one was a Mr. Lincoln, and one was a Black Beauty. 7. All horticulture specimens, cut or potted, must have been grown by the exhibitor, and in his possession for at least three months. Containers with multiple plantings need to have been in the exhibitor=s possession for a minimum of six weeks. 8. The arrangement class may contain no artificial plant material. Fresh plant material may not be embellished in any way however, dry materials may be. No leaf shine or polish allowed. 9. The use of any plant or part of a plant on the State Conservation List is strictly prohibited. Enter potted and hanging plants Monday, September 25 between 9 am and noon. Enter cut specimens and arrangements Tuesday, September 26 between 9 a.m. and noon. Remove exhibits Monday, October 2 between 2 pm, and 6 pm. Any exhibits not picked up on time will be discarded. Only two entries per professional in any one lot. 3. Entry must have been painted since October All paintings must be dry, framed, or mounted, and ready to hang; or entry will not be accepted. 5. The Middle Tennessee District Fair will provide ribbons for those competitions if requested. 4 All work must be done at school and entered in the grade in which the work was done. 5 ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 AT 4:00PM. It is designed for amateurs as opposed to professionals.
