2 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS All entries must be the original creations of the youth entering. Eligibility: Individuals ages 5-17 (as of Jan. 1, 2018). Members of Youth Organizations, such as Boy/Girl Scouts, 4-H, etc., ages Groups up to (15) participants ages Limits: See division descriptions for entry limits. NEW! Processing Fees: $5.00 per entry. Non-refundable. Entry Delivery: All entries must be dropped off at the Creative Youth Exhibit tent. Enter the fairgrounds through the Solana Gate off of Via de la Valle, and then follow the directional signs to Creative Youth. Review each division for drop off dates and times. Display Requirements: Each entry must be marked on the back or bottom with the participant s name, Division and. See Divisions for mounting requirements and size and weight limitations. All entries, officially entered and received, will be displayed, space permitting. Entries may be displayed using Velcro tabs adhered to the back of the piece. The Creative Youth Entry Office will provide an exhibit ticket for each entry, which will be affixed to the piece with masking tape by Creative Youth staff. All entries must remain in the Creative Youth Exhibit until the pick-up date. Neither the San Diego County Fair nor 22 nd District Agricultural Association are responsible for theft or damage to entries. Judging: Creative Youth entries are judged using the Danish System. The judging process compares each exhibit on its own merit against a recognized standard, with age as a consideration. 1 st and 2 nd Place ribbons will be awarded as merited. Fair Awards: Best of Show Awards - will be offered in all Divisions. Special Awards - will be presented to entries recognized by exhibit coordinators for outstanding creativity and/or presentation. John Dalley Memorial- (2) $25 Awards will be presented to Gems and Minerals entries in Division 4502, 4503, 4507 & Environmental Awareness Recognition Awards - (2) $50 will be presented to entries in any Division at the discretion of the exhibit coordinators. Donated Awards: Donated awards are provided by individuals, interest groups or retail merchants, and may be presented by interest group representatives, Division judges, and/or other individual appointed by the award donor. The Fair is not responsible for presenting donated awards. Recipe: Exhibitors must submit a Recipe Form. Disposal: With the exception of Recipe-in-a-Jar and Preserved Foods, all food entries will become the property of the San Diego County Fair and will not be returned. All spoiled food items will be removed for the Creative Youth Exhibit. NEW! COOKIES and COOKIE BARS Provide one dozen cookies or bars of your favorite recipe. 5 FOOD ITEM PROJECTS DELIVERY DATE: Wednesday, May 30 Noon - 7:00pm PRESERVED FOODS HEALTH REQUIREMENTS FOR PRESERVED FOODS: All non-acidic foods and vegetables, including tomatoes and salsa, must be canned under pressure. Low-acid fruit, such as figs, should be made more acidic by adding lemon juice, as directed in the U.C. Cooperative Extension leaflet, Home Canning. Fruits may be processed in a boiling water bath or pressure-canned. RELISHES: Vegetable relish, including tomato, must be canned under pressure. Fruit relish may be processed in a boiling water bath or pressurecanned. CONTAINERS: Standard jars (container specifically designed for canning purposes) with new tops and screw rings must be used. Fruits, vegetables and pickles may be in 1 pint, 1½ pint or quart jars. Jams, jellies, preserves or marmalades may be in ½ pint, 1 pint or 1½ pint jars. Paraffin is not allowed. DRIED PRODUCTS: Must be in jars. LABELS: Jar labels must list type of product and date processed. Do not include exhibitor s name on label.
