[Product: Fully Automatic Washing Machine] Period: July 1992 to March 1994 Engineer: Commissioning of the assembly line for the production of Fully Automatic Washing Machine Manpower Planning INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS AT FINOLEX WIRE PRODUCTS LIMITED [Manufacture of continuous cast copper rod] 1. Increased Casting Speed Increased the casting speed from 9 mt/hr to 12 mt/hr by suitably modifying the cooling system of the casting mould and also streamlining the caster running parameters. This has resulted in increase of daily copper rod production from 180 mt. to 240 mt. 2. Reduced Scrap Generation Reduced the scrap generation from existing 15 % to 5.5 % through downtime analysis, modifying water jacket layout, stabilizing the combustion system and increasing the casting speed. 3. Reduced Alcohol Consumption Reduced alcohol consumption from 12 ltrs/ton to 6 ltrs/ton by suitably modifying the quenching system and changing the alcohol spray pattern. This has resulted in saving of liters of alcohol per month. 4. Reduced Wire Breaks Studies showed that the majority of wire breaks were due to inclusions in the molten copper. These inclusions were getting carried in the copper bar through a vortex pool formed at the siphoning region. Following action was taken:

5 Modified Tundish design to facilitate better slag arresting Controlled the cast bar temperature within 50 degrees centigrade to reduce macroporosity Aligned Mill Roll centre line Siphon design modified to have the siphon digging at greater depth in the Tundish copper thereby preventing the floating slab getting carried through the siphon. This has resulted in the reduction of wire breaks from the reported figure of 1.5 breaks per ton to 0.2 breaks per ton. 5. ISO 9001:2000 Documented, implemented and audited the quality control system procedure for ISO 9001:2000. Company was certified for ISO 9001:2000 in April 2002 by Det Norske Veritas. 6. Miscellaneous Drop flap mechanism introduced for the guide plated in the mill rolls to eliminate any surface defects on the rod Number of start ups per mt. has been reduced fron to Data logger system introduced for better control of the parameters Modified Descaling System for effective removal of surface oxides on the copper rod.
