1 PHSE V REMEDY OPERTION STTUS ND REMEDIL MONITORING REPORT No. 10 ugust 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012 Sunoco Station 144 Newbury Street (Route 1) Peabody, Massachusetts DUNS No MDEP RTN January 2012 edep Transaction # Responsible Party: Sunoco, Inc. (R&M) P.O. Box 4209 Concord, New Hampshire Contact: William J. Brochu Regulatory Status: petroleum release was identified at 144 Newbury Street during subsurface investigation activities initiated by Best Petroleum in The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) granted a Waiver of pprovals for Release Tracking Number (RTN) in soil vapor extraction (SVE) system was installed at the site in June of 1997, and was operated under an Interim Measure. Release batement Measure (RM) Plan Modification was submitted to the MDEP on November 29, 2001 for conversion of the SVE/air sparge system to a dual phase extraction (DPE) system. Phase V Status reports were submitted to MDEP on June 2, 2004 and November 16, Phase V Status and Remedy Operation Status (ROS) Opinion Report were submitted to MDEP on June 2, Phase V Status Reports have been submitted to MDEP on a semi-annual basis since June complete history of the site is summarized in the ugust 2010 Phase V ROS Status Report. Work Performed: The following work associated with RTN was conducted during this monitoring period: October 17, 2011 CE gauged select groundwater monitoring wells with an electronic interface probe for depth to water and thickness of non-aqueous phase liquid (NPL), if present. Groundwater gauging data is summarized in ppendix. October 17, 2011 CE collected groundwater samples from select monitoring wells for analysis of volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (VPH) and target analyte constituents. The laboratory

October 17, 2011 Groundwater was field monitored for MN parameters at select groundwater monitoring wells. MN data is summarized on Table 2. Groundwater Monitoring Summary and Site Hydrogeologic Characteristics: Gauging and Sampling Frequency: Semi-annually NPL Detected: None Groundwater Classification: GW-1 / GW-2 / GW-3 Groundwater Depth Range (feet): in MW-102 to in LEI-1 on October 17, 2011 Groundwater Flow Direction: There appears to be a west to east trending groundwater flow divide across the site, and groundwater flow diverges to the north and south across the approximate center of the site Potential Sensitive Receptors: Potential receptors have been identified using site reconnaissance, the USGS Topographic Salem Southwest Quadrangle, Massachusetts, and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup (BWSC) Site Scoring Map (Figure 3) and are discussed below. The site is located within a Zone II of public water supply; therefore Method 1 Risk Characterization groundwater category GW-1 is applicable to the site. reas of protected open space, wetlands, certified vernal pools, a high yield non-potential drinking water source area, and two high yield aquifers are located within 0.5-mile of the site. The closest water body is an unnamed pond located approximately 1,000 feet northwest of the site. The Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program tlas does not identify any priority habitats of rare species in wetland areas within 500 feet of the site. Description of Significant Modifications to Monitoring Program or Problems Noted: No significant modifications were made to the operation, maintenance, and/or monitoring program during this monitoring period. Groundwater sampling frequency has been decreased from quarterly to semiannually due to current site conditions and historic monitoring results.

3 Sunoco Station Phase V ROS & RMR Report No Newbury Street RTN Peabody, M Page 3 of 3 Evaluation of Remedy Operation Status pursuant to 310 CMR (2): Referring to the October 17, 2011 VPH results summarized in Table 1, no concentrations of VPH or target analytes were detected above the applicable Method 1 Risk Characterization (M1RC) GW-1, GW-2 and/or GW-3 groundwater standards in monitoring wells LEI-2/DPE-5 or MW-104 with the exception of MTBE, which was detected above the M1RC GW-1 groundwater standard of 140 micrograms per liter (ug/l) in monitoring wells EIS-2 (1,510 ug/l) and LEI-2/DPE-5 (1,220 ug/l). Concentrations of VPH and/or target analytes were detected above M1RC GW-1 standards in monitoring wells DPE-2, DPE-3, LEI-1, LEI-17, MW-101, MW-102, MW-103, OW-3 and OW-5. Concentrations of total xylenes were detected above M1RC GW-3 standards in monitoring wells OW-3, DPE-2 and DPE-3 and were detected above M1RC GW-2 standards in monitoring well OW-3. No other analytes were detected above M1RC GW-1, GW-2 or GW-3 standards during the October 17, 2011 sampling event. Groundwater concentration data for VPH and groundwater elevations were graphed over time for groundwater monitoring wells OW-5, DPE-2, LEI-17, MW-101 and MW-104 to identify groundwater quality trends. These graphs are included in ppendix C. Based on the groundwater analytical data, MN continues to be the most effective remediation alternative for this site. Future ctions: The following is a tentative timeline for response actions within the next six months: Groundwater Gauging and Sampling pril 2012 ROS Status Report July 2012
