It is for this rea son that both Op - erators and Service Companies alike must find other ways to en hance op - erational and cost effectiveness in subsea workover scenarios. With this in mind, an al li ance be - tween two dis tinctly dif fer ent Ser - vice Com pa nies was formed with the vi sion of for mu lat ing an in no va tive means of de ploy ing wire line in a subsea tree with out the use of a riser assembly. This vi sion is now a re al ity and will change the way we think about subsea workovers. As an ex am ple, this new tech nol ogy will fa cil i tate the plug ging and aban don ment of subsea wells with out the need for a costly rig. An other topic that will be dis cussed in the pre sen ta tion is CoilTAC. CoilTAC. Coil Thrust And Carry is a rev o lu tion ary means of pipe line in ter ven tion uti liz ing Coiled Tub ing to per form a num ber of dif fer ent tasks with an un prec e dented reach ca pa bil ity. These top ics will be dis - cussed more fully in the pre sen ta - tion. Rob ert Coles has seven years ex pe ri - ence in the oil field ser vices sec tor and has held po si tions in op er a tions, service quality management, sales, and en gi neer ing sup port re lat ing to coiled tub ing ser vices. His ex pe ri - ence in cludes coiled tub ing log ging, ma trix acidizing, sand con trol, ce - ment ing and deep water op er a tions. 2 Chairman s Message It is that time year again where we need to start think ing about the API Golf Tour na ment in Oc to - ber. Just think of the cool weather and the fun day at City Park we can all have play ing golf. I re al ize with ninety-de gree days and rain that most peo ple are not think ing about golf in City Park in Oc to ber, but you need to get your four some to gether and make plans. The golf tour na ment is our Chap ter s pri mary fundraiser and we en cour age ev ery one to come out. If you can not play golf re mem ber other do na tions such as hole spon sors are wel come. All the money raised goes to sup port pub lic school teach ers in the Greater New Or leans Area. Since the pro gram be gan the Delta Chap ter of the API has given away over $120,000 di rectly to ex cel lent in - di vid ual pub lic school teach ers. 3 API Delta Recognizes Excellence in Education Cathy Vaughn, our Ed u ca tion Com mit tee Chair woman, or ga nized an other suc - cess ful rec og ni tion award cer e mony that was at tended by the teach ers hon - ored, their prin ci pals and the su per in ten dents of schools. Dr. Brian Reidlinger, Pres i dent and CEO of the School Lead er ship Cen ter of Greater New Or leans, was the guest speaker. Dr Reidlinger rec og nized our Chap ter s long stand ing part ner ship with the ed u ca tional com mu nity and de - lighted our guests with an en ter tain ing and pro voc a tive talk. There is noth ing easy about teach ing com mented Brian, an ed u ca tor and for - mer school prin ci pal. Teach ers do not teach be cause of the fat pay checks that they re ceive, he con tin ued. In fact, teach ers sal ary in creases are not able to keep up with health care in - fla tion costs ac cord ing to the lat est re ports. Why is it that teach ers teach, and why is it that ex cel lent teach ers do not leave for better com pen sa tion? Be cause teach ers want to make a dif fer ence, Dr. Reidlinger said. We know that teach ers are of ten taken for granted and do not re ceive the rec - og ni tion that they de serve. We are for tu nate that many ex cel lent teach ers have cho sen to re main at a tough job; our chil dren and com mu nity ben e fit from their price less and beau ti ful gift to un lock minds, Brian said. Brian dis cussed the crit i cal role that teach ers play in a free so ci ety. He said that teach ing in a de moc racy is a priv i lege that pres ents unique chal lenges, and re spon si bil i ties. Hit ler was able to hold power through con trol of knowl - edge: con trol of the Ger man ed u ca tional sys tem al lowed him to train dis ci - plined fol low ers. Be cause teach ers play a crit i cal role in shap ing minds, their im pact on a free so ci ety must not be un der es ti mated and un der-rec og nized. Teach ers are daily role mod els for our kids, and sadly, some times the only pos i tive role mod els that some chil dren have. We trust teach ers to help build fu ture cit i zens and lead ers. We should value and re ward them for this ef fort, Brian told us. H.G. Wells said that civ i li za tion is a race be tween ed u ca tion and ca tas tro phe, Brian noted. Dr. Reidlinger men tioned some of the non-tan gi ble ben e fits of teach ing. Teach ers pol ish the stars and make them shine and glow; they rec og nize that ev ery child has a spark to light and that ninety-nine per cent of the stu dents are wor thy of their care and com pas sion. Chil dren look up to you and lis ten to what you have to say. Light thou sands of can dles with ex cel lence and ex am - ple, Brian urged the teach ers.
