2 A personal invitation from Dr Jezdimir Knezevic, Founder & President of the MIRCE Akademy According to Einstein Everything that the human race has done and thought is concerned with the satisfaction of felt needs. Human needs for transporting, communicating, defending, entertaining and many other functions are satisfied by ships, airplanes, tractors, computers, radios and other machines. Their design-in performance, physically measurable through speed, acceleration, power, fuel consumption and many others are accurately predictable by the laws of science, essential features of which are determinism and reversibility, as they are independent of time, location and human impacts. However, experience teaches us that the in-service performance of machines is dominated by phenomena like fatigue, operator induced error, the wind direction change, the formation of suncups on a blue ice runway, a faulty weld, bird strike, perished rubber, carburettor icing, to name just a few. All of these phenomena generate energy and matter flow from and into machines, but some of them cause their transition to the state in which the design-in performance become unavailable. Hence, due to the inability of machines to return to a functionable state by themselves actions like troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, replacements, cannibalisations and similar are undertaken by humans to maintain the flow of energy and matter required for the delivery of functionality through time. Fundamental properties of these processes, regarding the mechanisms and the rate of the flow of energy and matter, are indeterminism and irreversibility, as they are dependent of time, space and human actions. Hence, inservice performance of machines measured through the length of time they spend in a functionable state, are not predictable by the laws of science used for the predictions of their design-in performance. Consequently, to facilitate predictions of the motion of machines through functionable states in respect to time, I established the MIRCE Akademy at Woodbury Park, in We scientifically studied in-service processes to understand physical mechanisms and human actions that make them behave in a manner that cannot be reduced to existing laws of science. The body of knowledge generated gave birth to Mirce Mechanics, whose axioms, mathematical scheme and computational methods enable the expected inservice performance of machines to be calculated. However, as Mirce Mechanics is still a young discipline, not all aspects of in-service behaviour of machines are fully understood. Thus, the main objective of the Congress is to bring together scientists, mathematicians and engineers who are responsible for the design-in performance of machines and operators, maintainers, and logisticians who are responsible for their in-service performance to spend a few days together and learn from each other the complexity of their interactions. The ability to quantify these interactions is essential if the successful trade-off between design-in and in-service performance is to be achieved, as the human satisfaction of felt needs for transporting, communicating, defending, entertaining and many other functions depend on it. Then, approaches like Mirce mechanics may adequately extend conventional reliability engineering that only reasons from given conditions. This presentation invites a discussion for the plausibility of one of the Mirce mechanics axioms. The goal of a scientist is to uncover new ideas, concepts and tools, practical or theoretical, that extend our understanding of the world around us and enable us to do new things. In chemistry, the theory of Atoms In Molecules (AIM) developed in my laboratory, is being increasingly used by workers in all fields of chemistry and also in solid state physics. Because AIM has increased our understanding of how atoms behave, it is used in many ways - to develop new alloys and new and better drugs, for example. Nothing pleases me more than the knowledge that each year sees an ever increasing use of AIM by other scientists in the pursuit of their own research. Thank you Richard for being an inspiration for all of us. Dr K. Richard F.W. Bader 2014 Memorial Lecture Molecules in Molecules as Complementary Approach to Quantum Theory of Atoms In the Lecture a new scheme for bonding analysis will be presented; which originated from combining the Extended Transition State (ETS) energy decomposition method with the Natural Orbitals for Chemical Valence (NOCV). This approach is based on the concept which considers formation of a molecule from smaller fragments (i.e. other molecules bonded to each other). The associated change in electron density of fragments, known as deformation density, shows specific areas of charge depletion and accumulation due to molecule formation. The ETS-NOCV charge and energy decomposition scheme makes it not only possible to decompose the total deformation density, ρ, into the different components (such as σ, π, δ, etc.) of the chemical bond, but it also provides the corresponding energy contributions to the total bond energy. Thus, the ETS-NOCV scheme offers a compact, qualitative and quantitative, picture of the chemical bond formation within one common theoretical framework. It will be shown that ETS-NOCV results are not only fully in line with the outcomes based on the Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules by Richard Bader, but they can also be complementary. Hence, ETS-NOCV and QTAIM when used together provide very deep insight into bonding phenomenon at atomistic level.

However, on this occasion I wish to present Ayrton Senna the scientist, who has been present in my life for the last 30 years. Clearly, these two, Senna the F1 Driver and Senna My Scientist, are closely related, bit unlike the chicken and egg situation, I am absolutely sure that my Senna has created Senna the triple Formula 1 World Champion. Dr Knezevic In motor racing, including Formula 1, you must always reach a compromise between the various settings which affect the performance of the car. There is no clearly defined procedure that will allow you to find the most effective set-up in a scientific and dependable way. Even experience, fundamental and necessary as it is, can have its limitations as each situation is new and individual. A small change in temperature, a little more rubber on the track, or a few bumps which weren t there before can be enough to create a new situation.
