Those from operating companies or supplier and service organisations may also find this course beneficial. Instructor Profile John E. Preedy PhD Dr. John Preedy worked for BP for 28 years as a Research Associate and Team Leader, working on feasibility studies and acting as a trouble shooter covering all aspects of BP s businesses. His experience included field development projects in the North Sea and several novel resource recovery techniques, which were taken from concept to field pilot trials in Canada. His specific work in the offshore area covered subsea robotics/automation, seabed production concepts, seabed excavation methods, underwater repair techniques, flexible riser studies and maintenance cost reductions. Since leaving BP in 1992 John has continued working in the offshore oil industry through Azur Offshore Ltd., including activities in the assessment of emerging novel technologies, technical and economic audits, deepwater studies, production sharing agreement evaluations and safety and environmental issues. Clients have included Chevron UK, BP Exploration, British Gas, Tecnomare, Trident Consultants, Fina UK and Cameron France. John is a regular university lecturer at the Cranfield School of Industrial Sciences (UK). He also lectures on oil industry activities at ENSTA (France), ECOLE NAVALE (France), the Technical University of Delft (Netherlands) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore) where he has also served as an external examiner and course advisor. In 2012 He was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at UTM Malaysia. In 2013 he will be providing courses to PetroVietnam University. He is an active member of the UK Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) and serves on their Subsea Engineering and Operations Committee. John is the Course Director and Principal Lecturer for training courses provided by Azur Offshore to professional engineers. Past projects have included safety reviews for Chevron North Sea, production sharing contract reviews in Nigeria, subsea team with FPSO and tie-back options for Total s Otter Field, technical reviews for Ivory Coast FPSO and training and operations instruction for BP Greater Plutonio, Angola.

2 Course Overview Subsea Production involves two main topics Subsea Production Systems (Wellheads, Trees, Manifolds and Subsea Controls) and Umbilicals, Flowlines and Risers. These collectively carry the reservoir fluids from the production wells to the Production host for processing and export. As the search for oil pushes field developments into increasingly deep waters which are both hostile and isolated, subsea engineering technology has to develop techniques to meet these even more challenging environments. This one-day course provides an overview of the key components of subsea engineering including flow assurance, reliability and maintenance.
