1 Product Design & Development Joint Program partnered by Penn State University, University of Michigan and Tecnun The objectives of the course are: To give the students training and skills in the process of product design and development To get in contact with design companies To foster relationships between the University of Michigan, Penn State University and Tecnun students and faculty To have fun The course theory will be given by the following lecturers Dr. Scarlett R. There will be seminars with industrial companies. Additional Activities Cultural and sports activities are organized: A visit to the Guggenheim Bilbao Surfing lessons Lunch in a traditional Basque Txoko (gastronomical society)

5 Introduction to Microrobotics with LEGO Hobby or professional career? Microroboticshas become very popular leisure activity because of the number of contests, such as Eurobotand Alcabot. But microroboticsis also a good test bed to acquire concepts of robotics, where we have to combine already learnt skills from mechanical design, electronics, control and programming. The content of this course covers the description of the main components of a microrobotand the programming concepts of microcontrollers. Finally, in groups, several micro-robots will be built using LEGO and programmed using Arduino. Questions -What is a microrobot? Which parts does it have? -How can we design and build a microrobot? -How can we implement intelligence to a microrobotin order to be able to run away from a maze/labyrinth? Syllabus: Introduction to microcontrollers (arduinoand PIC) Programming microcontroller Design of electronic control boards for microrobotics Microrobotmechanical design concepts, sensors and actuators Building robotic mechanisms using LEGO blocks Control algorithms Practice: microrobot construction and contest. Interactive lectures, free-time in the laboratory to build a microrobotwith the supervision of the teachers and the contest.
