Overview Introduction to Programming June 4-8 Programming & Robotics June Engineering CAD & 3D Printing June Internet of Things Smart Devices June Biosensors & Applications June Introduction to Programming * July 9-13 Programming & Robotics* July 9-13 VEX - Programming & Robotics July (* : Session 2 ) 1
This hands-on training will teach basics of computer programming. Campers will learn how computers work, as well as how to control devices and components with computers. In addition, they will learn to use various solid-state (electronic) sensors to detect electrical, magnetic or physical signals and process them to gather useful information, such as temperature, humidity, or the speed of moving objects. An Arduino-based kit will be provided, and all circuits with programming steps will be explained. The student will be trained with hands-on examples of how to read schematics and assembly plans, and how to build functioning electronics circuits on breadboards and test for functionality. Lunches and snacks will be provided daily. This camp is an introductory course, so no prior experience in programming is required. Introduction to Programming Prior Experience: Not required Camp Fee: $275, UAB School of EngineeringsHOEN Engineering Building June 4 June 8 July 9 July 13 2
Programming & Robotics This course will cover basics of automation systems, sensors, system input/outputs, and feedbacks. Students will learn basic programming skills, algorithms for decision-making and efficient programming techniques through intensive hands-on projects using an Arduino computer board. Students will learn how to build, test and program autonomous cars. They will use various sensors and programs to control robotic activities. Camp material is designed to promote critical thinking and to solve complex programming challenges and engineering problems. A.I. experiments and examples will be implemented on programmable robotic cars. Lunch and snacks will be provided daily. June 11 June 15 July 9 July 13 Prior Experience: Not required Camp Fee: $300 3
June 11 June 15 Age Group: Prior Experience: Basics of programming Camp Fee: $325 Engineering CAD & 3D Printing Welcome to future of the design and product development!. Be ready for a fun and exciting camp experience through hands-on, project-based learning. Design and develop products from hand sketches to physical models with 3D Printing. Each camper will learn basic concepts of product design and development on paper and then bring it to life with a modern 3D printer. Students will work in teams of two students, and a 3D printer will be assigned individually to each team. Students will learn 3D-Printing basics. Using computer-aided design (CAD) software such as Autodesk and SolidWorks, the students will design 3D objects and artifacts for various projects. Throughout this exciting summer camp, the students will turn their ideas into reality as they learn and have fun during the five days. 4
Internet of Things & Smart Devices This camp will prepare young campers to use today s most dynamic technologies, so-called Internet of Things (or IoT for short)! Motivated campers will find exciting, challenging, activities at this summer camp! Participants should have basic programming experience and an understanding of computer/smartphone hardware and software. The camper will develop IoT applications using Android based smartphone and Bluetooth devices to control a robot car, a garage door, or other home appliances. This camp covers basic understanding of embedded computers that are present in almost all smart devices and home appliances. For inexperienced campers, introductory-level training will be provided. At the end of the camp, the camper will keep the smartphones, Arduino-based computer board, and various components for further experiments at home or school. Lunch and snacks will be provided daily. Prior Experience: Basics of programming Camp Fee: $350 June 11 June 15 Take home: Android based Smartphone, Arduino compatible computer board with Bluetooth module and various electronic components for appliances control. 5
Biosensors & Applications Biomedical Devices The UAB School Of Engineering offers an exciting hands-on Biomedical Engineering camp for students interested in building biomedical devices! Campers will learn to measure various bio-signals of the human body while also building and controlling bionic hands, devices for measuring heart rates, body temperatures, and hearing devices, as well as many other exciting projects. This camp covers basics of embedded computers that are present almost all smart devices and portable medical devices. However, intro level computer programming and the basic understanding of electronics might be required. Campers will have five wonderful days learning about embedded systems and programming biomedical devices and sensors. It will be a fun camp with a lot of new experiences in terms of Biomedical Engineering. Lunch and snacks will be provided daily. Prior Experience: Basics of programming Camp Fee: $325, UAB School of EngineeringsHOEN Engineering Building June 25 June 29 6
This new camp will utilize one of the nationwide competition platforms of VEX robotics. Campers will work in teams of two to build and program a VEX robotics platform with a claw. This challenging and intense hands-on robotic camp will help the campers understand basic physics, mechanics and programming tasks for a successful autonomous vehicle. High-level programming language (RobotC) will be introduced. The last day of the camp will feature a competition between teams, with various prizes for the winners. Lunch and snacks will be provided daily. Prior Experience: Basics of programming Camp Fee: $350 VEX-Robotics & Robot C July 16 July 20 7
