While shop-made lumber racks have always bee popular, this storage assigmet ca also be hadled by heavy-duty hardware. The shelvig systems featured here have what it takes to quickly put a bare wall to work, providig sturdy racks that will help keep your boards i order. Choosig the system that s right for your shop will deped o the wall space you have available, your budget, ad how much lexibility you eed from the system. All of these systems feature steel stadards (aka uprights) that must be achored securely to the wall ad brackets (shelf supports) that lock i place o the stadards. Several years ago, I istalled a storage rack/workbech combia o usig this system, suppor g a 22"-deep, 8'-log coutertop o the 20" brackets. As show i the photo at right, loger brackets gai extra support by meas of diagoal braces that clip ito stadard slots a ice feature. The he y stadards jut out from the wall about a ich, so there s some loss of space before you get to the shelf supports. But the system ears extra poits for ease of istalla o, thaks to hager bars that ca be istalled horizotally o the wall to provide a mou g tab for the stadards. If you mout the hager bars level across the wall (makig sure to faste ito solid masory or wood framig), your stadards ca be spaced aywhere alog the hagers they do t eed to be idividually set to the same height.
