2 MODEL 8 0" BAND SA W SAFETY RULES. When setting up the machine fr any sawing jb, rtate handwheel by hand t make certain saw blade tracks prperly. Keep table free frm tls and material except stick t be cut.. Always keep blade guard in place and upper and lwer drs clsed and lcked during peratin. Use a push stick r guide fr cuts near saw blade. 3. Keep saw teeth sharp and prperly set. Imprper set in teeth will cause blade t "lead." This places tremendus strain n blade causrng breakage.. Always discnnect pwer surce when servicing machine. 5. Gd husekeeping is ne f the mst imprtant f all safety rules. 6. D nt lk arund r carryn a cnversatin when perating machine. Give it yur undivided and uninterrupted attentin. 7. Wear safety gggles fr added eye prtectin. 8. Rll up yur sleeves r wear a shp cat with tight fitting and rather shrt sleeves. Tuck in yur necktie and d nt wear glves. Lse fitting, trn r ragged clthing is dangerus because it may be caught by the saw and the peratr's hand pulled int the blade. 9. Base f machine shuld be grunded t water pipe r central grunding system. 0. Never clean blade area when machine is running. GENERAL SET-UP AND ALIGNMENT. RECEIVING Uncrate and check fr shipping damage. Clean all cated and greased surfaces. Read in"tl"udin" thrughly. Lcate all lubricatin pints; adjustments; methds f drive.. MOUNTING Munt machine securely t slid fundatin. Cncrete base munting preferred. Lcate in clean, dry and well ventilated building if pssible. Mtr and electrical cnnectins shuld be prtected when nt in peratin r if expsed t weather elements. 3. INSPECTION The abve machine requires the minimum amunt f attentin in service. Peridic r regular inspectins are recmmended t insure machine is in prper adjustment, psitive electrical cnnectins; wrn r I)0se "V" belts and bearings heating r lse.. BEFORE OPERATING Check mtr nameplate data r wiring diagram f mtr and switch fr prper vltage cnnectin befre wiring int line. Run mtr withut lad t check the cnnectins and directin f rtatin. Always refer t mtr nameplate fr rtatin cnnectins. page

3 MODEL 8 0" RAND SAW The Pwermatic Mdel 8 _ 0" Band Saw is cnstructed f steel plate, braced t give maximum rigidity. Streamlined in appearance, all mving parts are cmpletely guarded fr safe peratin. The tp and bttm band wheels are easily accessible thrugh large hinged drs n the frnt f the saw. Lwer wheel is equipped with a ft brake that is cnvenient t the peratr. Sealed dust. chute keeps mtr and drive free frm cuttings and dust. MOTOR AND WIRING: Electric wiring is cnnected t mtr wiring in cnduit bx munted n the side f the clumn. Mtr shuld be inspected and checked fr rtatin befre perating machine. Operate lwer unit and check rtatin befre installing blade. POWER DRIVE: The saw is driven with a mtr munted in the base f the machine. A HP mtr is sufficient fr light and medium wrk and a r HP fr heavy wrk and resawing. On the belt driven machine, the mtr is munted n an adjustable hinge base. Tw A sectin belts drive the lwer band wheel. The direct drive mdel features the mtr munted direct t the lwer band wheel, turning 900 RPM. INSTALLING BLADE: T install band saw blade, remve table insert () fig. frm table; pen tp and bttm drs. Take the blade in bth hands and slide thrugh table slt and ver band wheels. With the blade placed in the center f the band wheels, increase tensin n upper wheel with tensin screw () fig., lcated under upper wheel. Set upper and lwer saw guides s they will clear the saw blade. Turn balld wheels by hand t see that saw blade tracks prperly. Fr accurate wrk and maximum blade life it is imprtant that the blade runs centered n the wheels. When the adjustment has been prperly made, the blade will track; that is, it will run steadily in the same line. BLADE GUIDE ADJUSTMENT: Fr prper peratin, the saw blade must be supprted by an upper and lwer saw guide. The lwer guide is munted under the table and the upper guide n a cunterbalanced bar (3) fig. abve the table. The purpse f the saw guide is t supprt the blade fr cutting circles (See & 3, fig. ). It is very imprtant that the guides be set in prper relatin t the saw blade. T set the guides t saw blade, set tensin n blade and start the saw t check tracking n band wheel. Set the side blcks r bearings () fig. as clse t the saw as pssible withut causing frictin r binding. Guide blcks are held in place with scket head set screws (5) fig.. After blade clearance is set, the guide hlder shuld be set s that edge f the guides are just behind saw teeth gullets. The back guide cnsists f a ball bearing munted in an adjustable bar. The bearing is set /6" frm the back edge f saw blade when blade is running nt laded. The back guide shuld be set at a slight angle t back f blade s that the edge f the blade will nt cut a grve in back bearing guide. Back bearing is adjusted by turning knurled knb (6) fig.. BLADE TENSION: Crrect blade tensin is very imprtant fr efficient peratin. The wider and thicker blades require mre tensin than narrw blades. A tensin indicatr, graduated fr different blade widths () fig., is lcated inside the frame, behind upper wheel. Tensin is regulated by a screw building pressure n tensin spring. This spring is designed t give crrect tensin fr standard gauge blades nly. Te!sin may vary n heavier and/r thicker blades. Blade tensin des nt vary with different length blades. WHEEL ALIGNMENT: Band wheels are prperly aligned at the factry and shuld perate crrectly. Hwever, in shipping, the riginal adjustments may have mved necessitating realignment. The lwer wheel husing is munted n jack screws, tw in the rear and tw in the frnt. The shaft may be leveled by lsening the tw bearing lcking blts and adjusting with the tw jack screws. Bearing blts shuld be retightened after shaft is leveled. TABLE ADJUSTMENTS: The table is munted n an extremely heavy duty single actin trunin that rests n trunin base (9) fig.. The table may be tilted t the right 5 degrees and t the left 5 degrees Table is lcked in psitin with trunin handwheel munted n side f machine base (7) fig.. T level table with blade, rllise cunter-balanced arm t highest psitin and place machinist square against side f blade. Set table stp (8) fig. n side f table by adjusting screw n tp f the stp. Stp bar may be remved fr tilting table t the left. LUBRICATION: The bearings n tp and bttm shaft are sealed fr life requiring n lubricatin.
