Daisy Craft Case How to make a... Strictly Dancing Tri Fold Box

2 Step 1. This workshop will show you how to make a lovely craft case for pins, needles and ribbons but you can adapt it to add items you prefer. Why not use it for sending money or a gift card / gift voucher in. For this project you`ll need the, a Sue Wilson Austrian collection background die, the frame & tag collection ~ dainty rectangular die, the French collection ~ Provence die, the noble collection ~ adorned classic die also needed will be the Phill Martin damask premium collection paper pad, some raspberry felt & some kraft card. Step 2. Take the Sue Wilson Austrian collection background die and place it on the left hand side of a piece of A4 kraft card. Secure it in place with some low take tape. Run the card through the Grand Calibur machine to cut the intricate design out. Step 3. Move the die over leaving a 1cm gap in between the edge of the steel die and the edge of the outer embossed mark frame. Make sure the die is lined up straight with the top and bottom of the just cut piece. Secure the die with some low tack tape and cut the panel out.

3 Step 4. Lay the card on a score board and add in 2 score lines that will be 0.5cm either side of the centre of the 2 cut panels. This way you`ll get your 1cm depth in the middle of the spine of the card. Step 5. Fold the card back on just one of the creases and trim along the top of the card so there is a border of 1cm from the intricate edge. Make sure the back of this card is completely in line with the front so it cuts perfectly straight. Alternatively just cut the card open using a large guillotine. Repeat this process on the bottom edge of the card. Step 6. Now crease the 2 nd score line on the spine of the card, this will make the shape of the card lift up.

4 Step 7. Cut the front side edge at 1cm from the intricate edge. Position the card back with the spine depth creased in place before cutting the back of the card to match the front. Step 8. Now you will have the basic shape of the craft case using just a small guillotine for a crisp finish to the piece. Step 9. This photo shows the depths of the basic shape of card.

5 Step 10. Cut a piece of self adhesive sheet to fit over the die cut panel and making sure the edges don`t go over the edges of the panel or creased edges. On this project I have used some off cuts of the sticky sheet, this will work as the sticky back will be covered by a paper panel later on. Just make sure there is a small border left all around so some of the kraft card will edge the paper panel later on. Step 11. Have the card on a piece of scrap paper or over a craft box lid and then tip over the Cosmic Shimmer marshmallow mica flakes. Step 12. Press the flakes into the sticky sheet to make sure all the sticky area is covered.

6 Step 13. Select 2 sheets from the Phill Martin damask premium collection paper pad. Here the raspberry toned papers match with the felt colour. Step 14. Place the corner of the 2 sheets paper up to the top and side edge on the inside of the back panel, leaving a 3mm gap around the edge of kraft card. Mark where the paper will need to be cut on the opposite side and bottom edge of the paper and trim away the excess. Now you will have cut 2 pieces of the same paper for the front & back paper panel. The excess paper will be used for die cuts later on. Step 15. Place the paper on a craft mat & add some of the Victorian velvet distress ink onto a Creative Expressions smoothie. Distress the edges of the paper by either adding more ink onto the edge or just a small edging. It`s up to you which look you prefer. This smoothie had some dusty concord ink on it so it has helped to darken the Victorian velvet ink, often it`s nice to play around with mixing distress inks.

7 Step 16. Now Lift the sticky sheet backing off the inside of the card ready to place the prepared paper panel onto the card. Step 17. If you have used off cuts of the self adhesive sheet then make sure you lift the overlapped backing paper off and lay the sticky part back down once all the backing is removed. Step 18. Place the other panel onto the card to complete the inside of the card.

8 Step 19. On the outside of the card the lovely plain raspberry will show through under the marshmallow mica flakes. Step 20. Fold a piece of the raspberry felt & place the solid cut die from the Sue Wilson noble adorned classic die set. Make sure the top edge of the die is placed clear of the folded edge of the felt. Run the piece through the die cutting machine. This piece might need 2 passes, but the felt will cut with ease. Step 21. Place the folded felt onto the back paper panel on the card in a landscape position. This will be the needle and pin holder in the craft case.

9 Step 22. Cut a piece of the same Phill Martin raspberry design using the Sue Wilson dainty rectangular die. Also emboss the panel. Step 23. Fold the cut shape in half. Add some of the Victorian velvet distress ink onto the edges of the paper. Step 24. Also cut an oval using the centre die from the Sue Wilson Austrian collection background die again using the same paper.

10 Step 25. Add some of Comic Shimmer dries clear glue to adhere just one side of the folded panel as this will act as the clasp to the project. Step 26. Stick the glued piece onto the centre back side edge of the card. Step 27. Distress the oval & add this to the centre panel on the front of the card using some foam tape for dimension. Now the front of the folded die shape will tuck under the raised oval shape.

11 Step 28. As we are using the paper for the clap it`s an idea to cut another dainty rectangular shape in a piece of card. Cut the shape so it clears the fold of the already attached paper shape & stick the card on the reverse piece to strengthen the flap. Use the Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue for a strong finish. Step 29. Here is the strengthened clasp with just the centre shape tucked under the oval. Step 30. Add a line of the Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue along the top of the reverse folded edge. Much sure none of the glue gets on the front of the felt as this will show up once dried.

12 Step 31. Place the felt on the top of the back panel in the card. Step 32. Add some pins & needles to the felt. You may also want to add some safety pins or some decorative pins you may have already made up??? Step 33. Cut & emboss 5 of the inner die shapes using the French collection ~ Provence dies in the kraft card. Wrap some Cosmic Shimmer olive green ribbon, the reversible pink & brown thick & thin ribbon around the shapes before taping the ends on the reverse of the die shape. Also wrap some toning thread around 2 of the die shapes & attach the pieces to the front inside of the card using a couple of glue dots or a foam pad so it is easy for them these spools to be removed later on.

13 Step 34. Use some black archival ink to stamp the daisy image from the JustRite cling stamp ~ hello daisy stamp set onto a piece of coconut card. Also stamp another 2 daisy head images onto some more coconut card. These will be used to decoupage the daisy. Step 35. For the colouring of the flower the following Tim Holtz distress markers have been used ~ Mustard Seed, Victorian Velvet, Aged Mahogany, Victorian Velvet & Spun Sugar for the petals & Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, Forest Moss & Shabby Shutters for the leaves. Black Soot is used for the edging of the flower once it`s been cut out. So add some of the pinks onto a clear plastic lid or an acrylic block. Use a water brush to pick up the ink before starting with the darker pinks near the centre of the flower. Step 36. Start to use the lighter pinks as you pull out the colour further down the petals. Lay some water just on the tips as this will allow the ink to be taken into the area nicely.

14 Step 37. Build the colours up adding the mustard seed ink in the centre of the flower before using the different tones of greens on the leaf areas of the stamp. Don`t worry if you go over the edges of the pieces as you will be cutting the flower out. Also colour in the other 2 daisy heads. A good trick is to start selecting the colours on the base flower and if they are quite right they will be covered up with the other flowers and you haven`t wasted the images. Step 38. Cut the flower & leaves out and then use the black soot or a marker pen to colour around the white core of the edges of the piece. This will just smarten up the design. Cut fewer leaves of the 2 daisy heads so it will allow you to see under the daisy decoupage. Step 39. Cut into the flower petals using the black edging of the stamped image as a guide and then curve the petals upwards and some downwards before adding the flower head to the bottom flower using some foam pads. Here I have moved the flower around slightly to give it more depth. Step 40. Complete the flower by adding the final flower layer.

15 Step 41. Place the finished daisy onto the oval using some 3d glue or foam tape. Make sure you don`t add any glue to the leaf area of the design as this will hang over the clasp and it shouldn`t be stuck down. Step 42. Here is the completed project. Why not add a gift card, gift voucher or money to this project so it makes the gift inside a bigger gift idea. Step 43. Use the clasp to open and close the craft case up.

Don`t forget you have a 2 nd layer of felt for adding more pins, needles or whatever you wish. It might be where you add a gift card too for a surprise.
