1 Seussville Celebration Required: It s Dr. Seuss s Birthday! Children are mesmerized by his words and love his brilliant characters. Celebrate Dr. Seuss and his magical world. Snack Suggestions: Strawberry and banana fruit kabobs (Cat in the Hat s hat) Blue Jell-O with gummy fish Half of an Oreo cookie with stacked red gummy life savers and frosting (Cat in the Hat s hat) Cook green eggs and ham! Decorate cupcakes. What s a birthday party without cake! Getting Started: Hang a sign KidsPark Seussville or Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss Purchase inexpensive Cat in the Hat hats for the staff to wear Send an reminder Post the event on Facebook Purchase needed materials Prepare materials ahead of time

2 Cat in the Hat Mask Paper plates Red and white construction paper Hat template (provided) Card stock Craft sticks Red and black markers or crayons Glue, tape and scissors Tape Cut the center of a paper out for each child Cut a red construction paper bow tie for each child Cut a supply of black construction paper ears and whiskers Print a hat on cardstock for each child Cut a hat our of cardstock out for each child Read Cat in the Hat Use red markers or crayons to color your hat Color the paper plate ring black Glue your hat on the top of the paper plate ring Glue on a bow tie, ears and whiskers Tape a craft stick on the mask as a handle

3 One Fish Two Fish- Fish Bowl Paper plates Construction paper Markers or crayons Blue paint Glue Cut the top off a paper plate for each child Cut a supply of construction paper fish Read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish Paint the paper plate fish bowl blue Decorate some fish Glue the fish onto your fish bowl

4 Bartholomew Oobleck 2 Cups cornstarch 1 Cup Water Food coloring Measuring cups Bowl Read Bartholomew and the Oobleck Measure the water and pour it into the bowl Mix a few drops of food color into the water Measure the cornstarch and pour it into the bowl Mix the water and cornstarch with your hands Enjoy!

5 Thing 1 Thing 2 Red craft sticks Wiggle eyes Cotton balls Blue markers White construction paper Scissors and glue Black markers Cut a supply of white construction paper circles Use the black marker to write Thing 1 and Thing 2 on them Read The Cat in the Hat Pull apart a cotton ball creating hair for your Thing Color the cotton ball hair blue Glue the hair on the top of the craft stick Glue on eyes and a Thing 1 or Thing 2 circle Draw a mouth on the craft stick

6 Sock Hunt Socks Read The Foot Book Remove your socks Wait while the teachers hide everyone s socks Race to find your socks The first friend to find both of their own socks wins! Before putting your socks back on compare your feet To extend this activity trace each child s foot on a sheet of paper. Lay the drawings out and compare them. Compare the large and small feet. Try to match the foot drawing to the child.

7 Hop On Pop Hopscotch Chalk Bean bags Draw large squares on the sidewalk with chalk Fill the squares with rhyming words Toss a bean bag onto a square Jump on each square except the one with the bean bag Recite each word as you jump

8 Trufulla Tree Playdough Playdough Straws Pipe cleaners Sparkle pompoms Read The Lorax Make a batch of play dough Use the pompoms, straws and pipe cleaners to make a trufulla tree forest Get creative!

9 Beanbag Toss Paper plate Oatmeal container Red and white construction paper Bean bags Scissors Glue gun Cut the center of the paper plate out Glue gun white construction paper sheets around the oatmeal container Glue gun the paper plate ring around the open edge of the oatmeal container as the rim of the hat Cut strips of red construction paper and glue gun them around the oatmeal container creating stripes on the hat Place the hat upside down on the floor Read Cat in the Hat Try tossing each bean bag into the hat one at a time Try tossing all of the bean bags into the hat at the same time Try tossing the bean bags into the hat by standing backwards and throwing them over your shoulder Create a trick shot your own special way to throw the bean bag into the hat To make it more difficult take a few steps away from the hat

10 I Love You Hand Cut or tear a supply of brown paper bag pieces Read Are You My Mother?
