8 Do Your Best Puppet Show God Wants Me To Do My Best Purpose: This activity will let the children recall the Bible Story by acting it out. Description: The children will each make a puppet and glue it to a large craft stick. They will then use the puppet to act out the Bible Story in order to remember the lesson for the day. Materials Needed: For this activity you will need this help sheet, large craft sticks, glue, crayons or markers, and the Character Puppets/Lesson 4 printouts from your Lesson Materials CD-ROM. Note: Consider cutting out the puppet pieces from the printouts ahead of time. # 1 Note: For optional background music, set your CD player to repeat track 1 on your Upside Down Town Jr. Soundtrack CD. To introduce the activity say: 1. Who did we learn about today in our Bible Story? (Cain and Abel.) 2. That s right: Cain and Abel. 3. Well, what we are going to do is make some puppets so that we can put on a puppet show about the Bible Story we heard. 4. I m going to give each of you a picture of Cain, Abel, a sheep, and some fruits and vegetables, and I want you to decorate them any way you want. 5. When you re done, you can glue it to your craft stick, and let me know if you want help. 6. Let s begin! During the activity say: For detailed instructions on how to do the activity see the DVD. Your puppets are looking great! Raise your hand when you need help gluing. Now that you have your puppets made, let s use them to remember what happened in our Bible Story today. Lesson 4 - Classroom Lesson 21

9 Note: Read the following story to your class. Directions to the children will be bold. Adam and Eve were the first people that God ever made when He was making the world. Adam and Eve had two sons: Cain and Abel. Abel was a shepherd. He took care of sheep. Can you hold up your Abel puppet and your sheep puppet? Great! Cain was a farmer. He grew fruits and vegetables. Can you hold up your Cain puppet and your fruits and vegetables puppet? Good job! One day, Cain and Abel went before God and gave gifts to Him. Who remembers what Cain gave? (Fruits and vegetables.) That s right! Can you put your vegetable puppet in front of you like you are giving it to God? Abel brought God the very best sheep from his flock. Can you put your sheep puppet down in front of you? Great! God was very happy with Abel s gift because Abel brought the very best he had to God. God wasn t so happy with Cain s gift. Cain didn t bring the very best of the fruit and vegetables he had grown. God asks us to do our very best and Cain did not do his best or give his very best to God. After the activity say: Awesome job making your puppets and acting out the Bible Story! You all did your best! Summary: Today we are learning that God wants us to do our best. We need to do our best in everything we do. Note: If you have chosen to use the optional music, turn it off now. Up Next: Bible Story reinforcement video Lesson 4 - Classroom Lesson 22

Description: The children will work to match up pictures from the Bible Story in order to review the lesson. Materials needed: For this activity, you will need this help sheet, wooden clothes pins, and the Make A Match/ Lesson 4 printouts from your Lesson Materials CD-ROM. Note: Cut out and glue the Mini Make A Match pictures onto the wooden clothes pins before your class begins. # 1 Note: For optional background music, set your CD player to repeat track 1 on your Upside Down Town Jr. Soundtrack CD. To introduce the activity say: 1. Who can tell me what we are learning today? (God Wants Me To Do My Best.) 2. That s right! We are going to see if we can remember some things from our Bible Story today. 3. I ve got some pictures from our Bible Story here. 4. I want you to clip these clothes pins to the picture it matches. 5. Once we get all the pictures matched up, we ll go over the Bible Story. Variation: If you find that your younger children have problems using the clothes pins, you can have them simply match the mini pictures with the large pictures (rather than clipping them on the picture). After they make the matches, proceed with the lesson as detailed below in order to review the Bible Story. For detailed instructions on how to do this activity see the DVD. Lesson 4 - Classroom Lesson 25

13 During the activity say: Picture 1 (Abel) 1. The Bible tells us that Adam was the first man God created. 2. Adam had two sons. One was Abel who was a shepherd. 3. Abel watched sheep, took care of them, and kept them safe. Picture 2 (Cain) 1. Adam s other son was Cain. 2. Cain was a farmer. 3. He raised fruits and vegetables. Picture 3 (Bringing gifts to God) 1. One day Cain and Abel took their gifts to God. 2. Cain took some of his fruits and vegetables. 3. Abel brought the very best firstborn lamb from his flock of sheep. Picture 4 (God accepts Abel s gift) 1. God accepted Abel s gift because Abel brought the very best he had. 2. God wants us to do our best and that s what Abel did when he brought his best lamb. Picture 5 (God doesn t accept Cain s gift) 1. God didn t accept Cain s gift because Cain just brought some of his crop. 2. He didn t pick out the very best fruits and vegetables for God. 3. If you are giving a gift, it should be the very best gift that you can give. 4. It doesn t have to be the most expensive, just the best you can do. 5. God wants us to do our best and that s what Abel did! After the activity say: 1. You did great remembering the Bible Story for today! 2. We saw that Abel brought his best gift to God and God accepted his gift. 3. We learned that God Wants Me To Do My Best. Summary: Today when you go home, you will get a copy of all of these pictures on your Family Devotional. Use them to help you tell your families about our Bible Story and to tell them that God Wants Me To Do My Best. Up Next: Closing Classroom Activity Lesson 4 - Classroom Lesson 26
