Poble Espanyol de Barcelona NEW! FIESTA MULTIMEDIA EXPERIENCE Activities for students 2018/2019
Introduction In 2016 the Poble Espanyol began a profound process of renewal that has led to a clear improvement in its technological aspects and in terms of content. This included a complete audiovisual project through which it is now possible to discover the traditions, landscapes and the excitement of the festivals. In short, the soul of Spanish villages. This year, you can immerse yourself in the soul of the people and the villages. You ll enjoy a spectacular multimedia experience first hand through technology, especially in the Fiesta space. We have created a thread that guides you through this journey, consisting of activities related to the definition of a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: a cultural diversity device and creative expression, as well as a motive force for living cultures. So, among the topics we present is flamenco, without doubt the most universally understood Andalucian artistic expression. The Mediterranean diet, also declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, is the source of inspiration for the special cuisine we have on offer. Finally, we have some content available (only in Barcelona) related to crafts and popular culture, which are ubiquitous elements associated with this universal heritage. Come and immerse yourself in the soul of Spain!
Nueva Stained glass workshop Following the directions of a facilitator, each student will create a piece that imitates the techniques used by specialists in this discipline, creating something really eyecatching. In the workshop, you will create your stained glass window design, as well as cut the glass and incrust it with textures and your chosen colours. Once you have completed the activity, we invite you to discover the stained glass windows found at the entrance of the audiovisual space Feeling Mediterranean Spain. Observe how the light hits them and you will see for yourselves the unique qualities these creations have, crafted by our artisan specialising in stained glass windows. The workshop is held in our educational space. Duration: 1 h Minimum: 15 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English (language supplement for French and English) The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket. You will have the piece on the same day of the activity.
Workshop: The art of glass There are many famous painters (Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Barceló) that have turned to artisanal techniques to produce their works. And this is just what you will be doing. Firstly, you ll create a design in pencil on paper, which you will then to transfer to glass using permanent markers. You ll finally apply colour to your creation, achieving a personal and unique result. During the course of this workshop you ll paint directly onto to the glass, using a very interesting technique. Always guided by a facilitator, you ll design, draw and paint onto a small glass plate, trying to represent something of your own personality. Which is to say, you will work with a craft technique, while also introducing the element of art. At the end of the activity, you will visit the Fran Daurel Museum, where you will find some pieces of art that are sure to amaze you, as well as one of the last of the glass furnaces in Spain. Duration: 1 h 45 Minimum: 15 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English (language supplement for French and English) The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket. You will have the piece on the same day of the activity.
Workshop: The art of leather With the guidance and help of a facilitator, you ll create a personalised leather wallet. To do this you will learn one of the most important techniques in leather craftsmanship: embossing. You ll work on a piece of skin, in this case from a cow, which the Poble artesan works with daily and will have specially prepared for you. During the activity you will also work on embossing, which consists of engraving with the use of a wooden mallet and various cutters, with different shapes upon damp leather, creating illustrations or borders. You ll then make the necessary holes with a die cutter and attach some snappers and rivets. You ll finally go ahead with the final stitching and touches, which will result in a useful, unique and original piece. Duration: 1 h 45 Minimum: 15 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English (language supplement for French and English) The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket. You will have the piece on the same day of the activity.
Leather workshop The objective of this activity is to customise a bracelet using basic leather craft techniques. You ll work the bracelet with cow skin and the twisted cord will be of goat skin. You ll employ two of the most common methods employed in craftwork with this material: spinning and braiding. Guided by a facilitator and with the help of a mallet and a die with different letters, each student will engrave a name or an inscription on their bracelet. While taking advantage of the holes in the bracelet, you ll then braid the cord to decorate the piece. The possibilities are endless! So each bracelet will be unique and personal. Duration: 1 h Minimum: 15 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English (language supplement for French and English) The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket. You will have the piece on the same day of the activity.
Fired enamels workshop Do you want to learn this ancient craft technique? This is all about creating a pendant which represents some of the personal qualities of each student. Under the watchful eye of a facilitator you ll work on a copper base to prepare it for glazing. You ll then apply the enamel with the help of a brush, which is simply powdered glass. The process begins by devising a design associated with some of the students personal qualities, using different shapes and colours. You ll then carefully apply the enamel to the piece of copper using a brush. The process is then completed by firing the pieces in the oven. Once the copper pieces are glazed and have cooled off, the sharp edges can them be filed down. And now they are ready! Duration: 1 h 45 Minimum: 15 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English (language supplement for French and English) The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket. You will have the piece on the same day of the activity.
Discover the Sculpture Garden Do you want to discover some of the fundamentals of the art of sculpture in a fun way? Follow our facilitator to the Sculpture Garden where through games and challenges, you ll discover how the impressive-looking sculptures around the grounds are made, and you ll also learn to look at them in a special way, appreciating every single detail. In the workshop you ll then create some small sculptures yourselves, using the techniques learnt during the course. Through these works you will experience the pleasure of expressing emotions and feelings through art, and you ll be able to take them with you at the end of the day. Duration: 1 h 45 Minimum: 15 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket. You will have the piece on the same day of the activity.
Flamenco show Food and art come together in this activity, organised by the Tablao de Carmen in the Poble Espanyol. This iconic spot has offered flamenco in its purest essence since The Tablao de Carmen takes its name from the famous international flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya (Barcelona 1918 Begur 1963) who on many occasions performed at the very same site where the renowned Tablao is currently located. With a capacity for 150 people, the Tablao de Carmen recreates an intimate atmosphere that allows for an exceptional rapport with the artists. With a cast of four professionals, a singer, a guitarist and two dancers, the students will be able to enjoy the art that is such part of southern Spain s cultural DNA. The activity is offered exclusively for the group of students who, will also be able to take a drink or eat while enjoying the show. Duration: 30 minutes Minimum: 30 people The price includes the entrance ticket and the show.
Flamenco course Do you know flamenco? It is an ancient art that has its origins on the southern shores of the Mediterranean, especially in Andalusia. Sound familiar? We propose that you get more deeply into the passionate world of flamenco, which will turn you all into dancers and palmeros (clappers), feeling the indescribable energy and magic that emanate from this art. Clapping and dance define this activity offered by the Tablao de Carmen in the Poble Espanyol. For 45 minutes the students will learn the basic flamenco dance steps and/or clap along to the rhythms of this music that is so characteristic of and deep-rooted in southern Spain. Duration: 45 minutes Minimum: 15 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English The price includes the entrance ticket and the course.
Paella show cooking The Mediterranean diet was recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010, which highlights the importance of a healthy and balanced diet more than ever. In this spirit, we hold a workshop in which all participants collaborate in the preparation of a traditional dish from the Spanish Mediterranean coast: paella. The students then form groups and must prepare a paella following the chefs instructions. Duration: 1 h Minimum: 20 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English (language supplement for French and English) The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket. This activity involves the preparation of a dish (workshop) and tasting, but does not substitute lunch.
Spanish cuisine workshop We are all aware of the importance of good food and the fact that the Mediterranean diet has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity highlights this. Following this premise, we have a special workshop for you with two possible versions, which are always carried out in small groups and with expert chefs. 1. Full tasting menu. Students will prepare a traditional Spanish menu. 2. Tapas tasting menu. A unique opportunity to get acquainted with this formula which is such a fundamental part of Spanish cuisine, in which not only the production process is important, but also the presentation. The workshops will take place in the Cookiteca, a gastronomy workshop located in the Poble Espanyol, which has a fully-equipped and safe kitchen. After preparing the recipes, you ll be able to taste the results. Duration: 2 h Minimum/maximum: 20/20 people Languages: Spanish, Catalan, English (supplement for French) The price includes the workshop and the entrance ticket.
Churros with chocolate Out of all Spanish customs a breakfast or snack with churros and chocolate is perhaps one of the most popular. For this reason we propose that you try this experience, which dates back to the beginning of the 19th century in Madrid. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with churros as a complement to your visit or any other activity at the Poble Espanyol in Barcelona... don t forget! The price includes churros and chocolate and the entrance ticket.
Guided tour Did you know that the Poble Espanyol was built in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exhibition and was expected to be torn down within just a few months? Don t miss the opportunity to discover the cultural, scenic, architectural and gastronomic diversity of Spain in just one hour. A guide will accompany you during this walk through the streets and squares of the grounds, and we ll tell you all about the secrets and anecdotes you can discover here. This will also be the perfect opportunity for you to experience the popular festivals in the new Fiesta space, a multimedia sensation with spectacular images and sounds! Duration: 1 h Minimum: 25 people or equivalent billing Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English, Italian and German The price includes the tour guide and the entrance ticket.
Lively visit The group is now ready to begin the visit to the Poble Espanyol, but the guide doesn t show up. Xisco then casually appears, an experienced public and private maintenance worker and offers to lead the tour. With all his kindness and his personal grace, Xisco will make the trip a fun, surprising and participatory tour during which you ll discover the secrets that lurk in the streets, squares and walls of the village. As you might have guessed, Xisco is an actor who will get the whole group participating in the game for a whole hour, so that everyone will participate in this fun activity and not simply be spectators. Duration: 1 h Minimum: 25 people or equivalent billing Languages: Spanish, Catalan, French, English The price includes the lively visit and the entrance ticket.
Free visit Do you know what the Poble Espanyol of Barcelona is? Would you like to discover it at your own pace? We make it easy for you. Before the visit we can give you general information about our site and any specific information you may request. We also have a revamped Welcome Area with a few touch screens where you will find everything you need to know after enjoying a full visit. Come and discover a small town located in Barcelona. You ll see that it has houses, towers, a church, a monastery, and even a city council, all representative of the popular architecture of the Peninsula. But the Poble Espanyol is much more than that: it includes craft activities you can take part in and the latest audio-visual equipment, where you ll discover the landscapes, cuisine and traditions of the various regions of Spain. And in the spectacular Fiesta space you can experience the most popular and authentic Spanish festivals. All this in a quiet and safe environment, closed to traffic, where you are free to adapt the tour to your needs and the time you wish to spend.
The Poble Espanyol is the only place in Barcelona where you can experience the cultural essence of the different regions of Spain. Architecture, craft, contemporary art, gastronomy and traditions come together in this open-air venue, closed to traffic and well connected with the city centre.
