5 Year One W H A T S B E E N H A P P E N I N G? June 2016 History and Geography learning at Victoria Primary Academy by Sarah Wood, History and Geography Subject Lead. There s some exciting history and geography learning in our academy at the moment. I have visited all classrooms and seen the children engaged in their lessons. They were keen to discuss their learning with me. Year 1 are studying The Victorians, in particular inventors and The Great Exhibitions. Year 2 are finding out about Seaside Holidays; locations, what it is like there and comparing seaside holidays from the past with the present. Year 3 are investigating Creepy Crawlies and will write a biography about Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter. Year 4 are learning about chocolate, specifically the history of chocolate and where in the world it comes from. Year 5 and 6 are exploring history through the poem the Lady of Shalott, by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Year One s Great Day Out Year 1 spent the yesterday recreating a Victorian Great Day Out! They made a steam train that took them to the beach where they had a picnic lunch and enjoyed an ice-cream in the sun. They designed their very own T-shirt as a memento of their very special day.
