2 How will I be helped to settle into Saxon Mount School? You will come on lots of visits to find out about your new school, meet your teachers and to start making friends with the pupils who will be in your class. You will visit us when you are still in Year 6 to look around and spend time at the school. In the summer holiday before you start at Saxon Mount, you can come to our summer school, which will really help you to settle in. You will find out about all the brilliant things you are going to do at Saxon Mount. Joe, Isabelle and Sadiq are at summer school. They are really excited to see what Saxon Mount is like and have a chance to explore when the school is quiet. I am so pleased to meet you all, says their teacher. Joe, Isabelle and Sadiq think that everyone is really friendly and they can t wait to start in September. When you start school, you will come into the playground. When the bell goes for the start of school, you will be taken into your tutor rooms by an adult. Are you looking forward to starting at Saxon Mount? 2 3

3 What will I do in school? Computing You will study all the subjects in the National Curriculum. PSHE DT As reading is so important, we make sure that you get lots of help, and we start most days off with reading activities. We have small classes with about 10 pupils to a teacher. This means that there is always someone to help you. We make sure that all the work you do is planned especially for you. Science Art We also reward you when you have tried hard, produced good work or behaved really well. You can earn reward points, and when you have enough, you will get a prize or could even be voted Worker of the Week. and English, Maths, Music, Food Technology, French, History, RE and PSHE. What is your favourite subject at school? 4 5

4 What happens at break-time? Break-time is important to help you relax between lessons and spend time with your friends. If the weather is OK, you will play outside. There is a lot of equipment for you to use and plenty of space to play games and sports. If you would rather spend your break quietly, we have a special quiet room called The Blue Room you can use, or the IT room is available if you prefer. If you want to talk to one of your teachers during your break, there will always be someone available. What do you like doing at break-times? 6 7

5 What if I am hungry? If you feel hungry at break-times, you can bring in a snack from home. At lunchtime you can choose a delicious school meal from the menu. You can also bring in a packed lunch if you prefer to. You tutor will take you to the lunch hall where there will be plenty of adults waiting to help you and you can sit at a table with your friends. When it is time for you to collect your meal, your table will be called. If there is anything you don t like, or if you like your food given to you in a special way, this is OK. We want you to be happy and relaxed when you are eating, so we will always be there to help. If you prefer to have your meal in a very quiet room, that is OK too. What is your favourite meal? 8 9

6 What happens at the end of the school day? When it is time for school to end at 3.15pm, the bell will ring. We will help you get your belongings, and your teacher or teaching assistant will take you outside to meet whoever is taking you home. When you are a bit older, you may be able to go home by yourself. Some of you may stay for after-school clubs such as: Table tennis fit4life Football Music clubs Rhythmix Computer club Cricket Catch up classes Sadiq, Joe and Isabelle are at the Rhythmix club and having great fun making music using their drums.
